Rom #12 (1980) – The awesome Jack of Hearts makes an appearance. The great Michael Golden gets both characters on his cover. Lovely.
Rom #14 (1981) – This comic has a bunch of goodies in it. The first appearances of Terminator Rom, and Starshine (Landra). Appearances (flashback) by the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Dave Cockrum cover.
Rom #17 (1981) – The Uncanny X-Men make an appearance. This comic and the followup next issue are the most popular of the Rom series run. A Frank Miller/Al Milgrom cover with Wolverine slashing at Rom makes this an instant collectors item. Also the first appearance of Hybrid.

Rom #23 (1981) – Power Man and Iron Fist return the favor and appear in the Rom comic. A few Marvel characters first appear with Rom in this comic. Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Moon Knight.
Rom #25 (1981) – First appearances of Hammerhead, Astra, Javelin, Rainbow, and an appearance from Torpedo.
Rom #29 (1982) – An Incredible Hulk appearance.
Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions #1 (1982) – Rom steps out of his own comic for the first time and into the realm of the Marvel universe. This 3 issue mini was the first of its kind and it was a big seller back in 82. The aftermarket treated this series very kindly back then. Rom seems to have appeared in only the first issue. The series was written by Grant, Gruenwald, and Mantlo. Drawn by John Romita Jr. Cover by Romita Jr and Layton.

Rom #61 (1984) – Steve Ditko art. Here’s a fun book to hunt down for only one reason. That black cover. See if you can score a 9.8 grade or higher. Might be challenging for a 32 year old comic. And besides, look at the creator names on this book anyway, Mantlo. Guice, Austin, Mazzucchelli, and Ditko. Not just any book to get graded.
Rom #62 (1985) – Steve Ditko art. Michael Zeck cover.
Rom #65 (1985) – Steve Ditko pencils ALL of these characters; Avengers, X-Men, West Coast Avengers, Soviet Super Soldiers, Dynamic Defenders (which includes Valkyrie, Beast, Iceman, Gargoyle, Angel, and Moondragon), Captain Britain, and many more. This issue is a must have in your Steve Ditko collection.

Doctor Strange Sorcerer Supreme Annual #2 (1992) – Rom appears in a backup story written by Roy Thomas.
Incredible Hulk #418 (1994) – Rom appears in this wedding issue. Written by Peter David and art by Gary Frank. This comic has an appearance from Death. Death is a Neil Gaiman Sandman character creation from DC’s imprint Vertigo. Tsk-tsk Marvel, shame on you.
Marvel 75th Anniversary Celebration (2014) – Rom appears in a story written by Brian Michael Bendis and art by Alan Davis. “Licensed Contest of Champions” is the story name and it features Godzilla, Bug (Microverse), among others…..including Rom.
