The weekly Avengers storyline ‘No Surrender’ has become an absolute must read week in and week out. Week 13 equals part 13. Avengers #687.
Staying with the Avengers, the Avengers: Shards of Infinity #1 will focus on a new evil organization named ‘Lunar’. The Marvel solicit promises the introduction of ‘some messed of villains’. If these villains fill out a larger purpose within the Marvel Universe, expect this comic to trend at a later date, otherwise it will be of interest right now because of the modern speculation. Creators on this comic; Ralph Macchio (writer) and artist Andrea Divito (artist).
It’s no secret that the Venom character has been trending for quite a bit of time since the announcement of a Venom solo movie. Heck, he’s been trending since Amazing Spider-Man #300. Marvel has jumped on the recent trend by putting Venom in everything. This week Marvel releases another Venom number one comic; Venomiized #1, by Cullen Bunn (writer) and Iban Coello (artist). Jump on the trend wave because Venom is not slowing down anytime soon.
Thanos’ daddy (creator) will write his final Thanos story. Thanos: Infinity Siblings #1 will be written by legend Jim Starlin and drawn by another legend; Alan Davis. With Thanos’ popularity at an all-time high right now, this comic will probably sell out.
Julie Power of Power Pack makes a rare appearance in Runaways #8. Fourth continuity appearance since 2012. Julie Power first appeared in Power Pack #1 (1984).
The Red Goblin will finally make his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #798. This comic has been trending since the word got out that this will be the first ‘full’ appearance of Red Goblin. So with that information, you better buy this comic quick at your local comic shop because it won’t be there very long.
The Dave Johnson Marvel Two-In-One #5 Venom variant will be making its rounds all over the place.
‘Old Woman Laura’ story begins in All-New Wolverine #33. This would be the first(?) appearance of Old woman Laura. Not too sure. Brought to you by Tom Taylor (writer) and Ramon Rosanas (artist).

The DC Metal Universe releases a number one comic featuring the first appearance of the character. Curse of the Brimstone #1 will introduce Brimstone. Writer Justin Jordan and artist Philip Tan.
Will the wedding of the century really happen? Batman and Catwoman? Find out what’s what starting in Batman #44. Writer Tom King and artist Joelle Jones.

IDW Publishing will forgo their ‘regular’ licensing release and hit fans with an original story. Not only an original story, but an introduction of a new character within their library. Check out Demi-God #1 from Ron Marz and Andy Smith. Said to be a cross between Deadpool and Thor. Now that’s a different mash-up.

It’s no secret Venom has dominated much of the Marvel universe within the last year or so. We’re not going to recommend to anyone to buy Amazing Spider-Man #300 (first full Venom) because not only is that an obvious book to try and have in your collection, it’s idiotic to recommend it. That said, Venomverse #1 will release this week and next week and maybe the week after with all of its reprints. Yes, it will sell out and no it won’t be worth jack in the aftermarket. Well, not really, lets explain. The regular Venomverse #1 cover will be the least of anyone’s interest. It’s the Todd McFarlane variant that will peak the interest, as it has in the past already when Marvel pulled off the McFarlane variant. It’s also the dozen or so ‘rare/ratio’ covers that will also peak the interest. Venom is hot right now obviously and if you didn’t know or see this coming, well you’re on the wrong side of the speculation business. You’re not a speculation guru if you were telling everyone to buy the first appearance of Venom……you should always buy the first appearance of Venom. Period.
Venomverse #1 also features the first appearance of ‘Poisons’.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
The best part of the Venomverse series (event) is the heads up we have given our readers for months now. One of these Venom mash-ups are bound to break out and when it does, you should be on top of their first appearance. The recommendations from InvestComics for months regarding Edge of Venomverse may finally pay dividends down the line somewhere. Even the past Venom mash-ups must be on your radar, which we covered too.
Also from Marvel this week will be Venomverse: War Stories #1. This comic and series will be exactly what we just spoke about in the last paragraph, but better. Better because Marvel knows where to cash in and they’re taking full advantage of it. They know fans love Venom and they love mash-ups, so why not cook up some short stories on possible characters that have not been mashed with Venom yet? Marvel Venomize’s Rocket Raccoon in this issue. Has he been Venomized yet? We don’t recall, please let us know without being a fanboy about it. If not, this is a first right out of the gate.
…..And ONE more Venomized first; Venomized Omega Red on the cover of X-Men Gold #11.

Buy/Bid – Venomverse War Stories #1

Buy/Bid – X-Men Gold #11

Buy/Bid – Astonishing X-Men #3

Marvel will fill in a little time gap between Star Wars The Force Awakens and Star Wars The Last Jedi with the release of Journey to Star Wars The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma #1. This will be the hottest Star Wars book since we first met Doctor Aphra in Darth Vader’s book. Captain Phasma’s first solo series will not be the last we see of the character, this will be only the beginning. Think modern day Boba Fett and you get the idea of the possible magnitude this character may have. So with that said, one may wonder where Phasma first appeared. That would be in Poe Dameron #2. This comic is cover price in the aftermarket and sitting in some dollar bins right now. Not for long……
The new Daredevil #26 comic may have a first appearance in it. Keep an eye out on this one. It will be hard to miss this issues Tom Lyle Typhoid Mary Venomized (first Typhoid Mary Venom?) variant though, so it won’t be that hard to ‘miss’ anything. The cover alone will have eyeballs on it. Typhoid Mary first appeared in Daredevil #254 (1988).
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Ironheart meets with Iron Man in Generations: Iron Man & Ironheart #1. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and art by Marco Rudy.
We don’t usually discuss any comic book covers in our Hot Picks (except for Daredevil #26 earlier), we save that for our ‘Best Comic Covers’ (eye candy) article, but once in a while we have to point out something cool. Ed McGuinness gives the fan a quick Wolverine history lesson on the Astonishing X-Men #3 cover. Ed’s cover sees a a young Wolverine, Weapon X, X-Men Wolverine, Old Man Logan and then his remains. Very neat and creative. Thank you Mr. McGuinness.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks;
There will be no doubt, the hottest indie on new comic book Wednesday will be The Walking Dead #171. The introduction/first appearance of ‘Princess’. This is called putting juice back into a book that needs it. Not saying Walking Dead is a dead (no pun intended) book, but it’s about that time this series need a jolt again. What’s been hot the last few years? The female leads, insert a NEW female character into a hot series and BAM, you have a hot book everyone is talking about.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Marvel Comics has brought the Star Wars comic lure to a new creative level ever since getting the rights back to publish. They have done such a great job bringing in new fans and satisfying old fans. However, this week IDW Publishing prints a new all ages Star Wars comic; Star Wars Adventures #1. Now if this was a new Marvel release, collectors would be all over it. Since this is an IDW print, we will see if the bar has been set too high and if IDW can/will reach it. We say give it a shot, it’s Star Wars, nuff said. Writer Cavan Scott and artist Derek Charm.

One certainty within the indie comics market is this; a debut comic from Black Mask, After Shock Comics and Oni Comics usually have a habit of selling out. This week Made Men #1 from Oni Press will do just that….sell out. Writer Paul Tobin with artist Arjuna Susini.
One of the hottest downloaded mobile games in history gets its own comic book. Fruit Ninja #1 (Dynamite Entertainment). Will this equate to comic sales? Maybe. Will it equate to a sell out? Maybe. Will it equate to an aftermarket bump? Maybe. What we’re saying is that history has shown us that because a video game or mobile game sells billions, it does not mean the comic book will. 9.9 out of 10 times, it won’t. But it is Fruit Ninja and it does look bad as*. Written by Nathan Cosby and art by Ruairi Coleman.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Zenescope Entertainment introduces a character/hero book this Wednesday; Black Sable #1. Written by Joe Brusha.

NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Thursday/Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

Before reading ahead, we feel we need to warn you that our articles contain very harsh truths in them. Not vulgar language, just a good solid dose of honesty. They always have, they always will. If you are easily offended, cannot come to terms that other people have opinions too beside yourself and especially if you’re a fanboy, discontinue reading. Go back to the other places selling you the farm. This is NOT the place for you. We’re here to have fun and not lie to you. Thank you and enjoy!

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Daredevil #150 (1978) CBCS 9.0. This nicely graded book features the first appearance of the villain Paladin. It’s signed by artist Klaus Janson. It also has a Gil Kane/Frank Giacoia cover. All of this for $65!

One of Spider-Man’s greatest adversaries gets another number one issue this Wednesday. Venom #1 debuts with writer Mike Costa and artist Gerardo Sandoval at the helm. Have you seen the InvestComics giveaway contest? You could win the exclusive Venom #1 Greg Horn WonderWorld Comics variant. Click HERE and follow the easy instructions to enter. Good luck. Back to talking about the release of the new comic. Well, let’s talk about Venom appearances for a minute. We all know of his “cameo” in Amazing Spider-Man #299 (1988) and his first full appearance is in Amazing Spider-Man #300 (1988). Those comics can be costly in the aftermarket, so why not shop for Venom’s “second” full appearance (third overall) in Amazing Spider-Man #315 (1989)? Some may overcharge for this comic, but still worth a hunt for a great copy at an affordable price. Most collectors won’t budge so much on #299 or #300, but #315 is more flexible for most. Here’s a crazy Venom comic that a collector can snag on Ebay for about one dollar. Quasar #6 (1989). It’s the first Venom appearance anywhere outside the Spider-Man universe (comic).
One more thing. The Venom #1 Todd McFarlane variant has an asking price of $150 right now on Ebay. The McFarlane Venom variant cover is the actual first appearance Todd drew of Venom in the Amazing Spider-Man #299 issue (last page) back in 1988. Nothing new here, just Marvel showing off Todd’s greatness.

Dani Moonstar returns in All New X-Men Annual #1. She last appeared in 2014’s All-New X-Factor #8 and Amazing X-Men #6. They both came out in the same month, we’re not too sure which came out first or if they came out the same week. No matter really, it’s irrelevant, she’s back now. However, of possible relevance is her first appearance in Marvel Graphic Novel #4 New Mutants (1982).
Ultimates Squared #1 is a new team title from Marvel. Ultimates Squared are the heralds of Galactus and they’re called the Lifebringer. This is not the first appearance of this team formed by Galactus. Lifebringer first appeared in Ultimates #2 (2016).

The smartest person in the Marvel universe is Lunella Lafayette. A fourth grader. Marvel is out to prove their case as the latest story line begins in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #13. The Amy Reeder cover keeps us guessing, what is connected to what? Creative cover.
Civil War II #7 will be the final issue. Great Marko Djurdjevic cover (regular) of Captain Marvel laying the smackdown.
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 will feature the first written comic book work by comedian/talk show host/game show host Wayne Brady.

A couple of DC mentions……..this does not mean there aren’t any more superb DC comics coming out, just two that made it here that’s all. So we’re good right?
Deathstoke runs into the Man of Steel in Deathstroke #7. A homage Superman cover from Shane Davis.
…..And that Jenny Frison Wonder Woman #11 cover really nails a distraught looking WW. The last issue of ‘The Lies’ story line.

John Layman and Rob Guillory have an incredible run on the title Chew. This Wednesday the series comes to an end. Chew #60 will be a double size finale.

Hot Pick Of The Week – Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 – Click To Buy/Bid

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 – Here’s the first appearance of Moon Girl and an overall fun book to check out this week. A keeper here.

Dark Knight III – Huge expectations for DC and fans alike. Spoiler alert coming up in case you don’t know, so discontinue reading if need be……..Frank Miller said that Carrie Kelly will take the Batman mantle in this latest installment. Wow another gender change for a big character, how original.

Silk #1 – InvestComics has and will always be on team Silk. Originality within this character brings the cultural and gender into play making for a possible deeper character driven hero for years to come.

Henchgirl #2 – Scout Comics has done it again. A sold out number issue (short print run) and a sold out number two issue. Henchgirl is hitting a cord with fans.

Jacked #1 – Maybe Hollywood or a television studio will come-a-knockin’ with this story. Or maybe not, but a DC/Vertigo title written by Eric Kripke will be an interesting book.

Well we cannot avoid the elephant in the room this week, so lets get it out the way shall we? Dark Knight III. Yep Dark Knight III and it’s 48 variant covers at last count. Absurdity at its finest here. 48 covers, is this truly necessary? Of course it’s not, but money is important for business, so while not necessary, it’s business. Before moving on, we want to point out that what you’re about to read regarding all of the hype regarding DKIII you may have heard here before over the years, just some rehash, an observation, some added numbers…..

Here are some things to consider if you’re in the market for that rare rare crazy variant. The first and most obvious, well maybe not so obvious to the potential buyer, but if you spend a whole bunch of money on a “rare” DKIII variant, you just bought a comic book “cover” for say….$150. So now you have yourself a “nice” pretty cover with the SAME EXACT insides as probably 1 million other comic books. Absolutely NOTHING different within the confines of YOUR pretty expensive cover’s insides as opposed to the other million copies. So your options are one or two things after you make your $150+ purchase. Get it graded (9.8 or more) and quadruple your intake (poor sap buying that! Wow) or hold onto it thinking you’ll have a comic to send your children to college with, which will never happen. Here’s a wake-up call. First and foremost, Dark Knight III will probably be a great book, better than Dark Knight II, but NOT better than Dark Knight I. Let’s have a clear understanding of something here, if you are an avid collector you will not have to read ahead here, but this is for the newer collectors and the others that have been brainwashed by websites trying to over-hype 48+ covers. The Dark Knight Returns (1986) came out right before Watchmen #1 (1986). Whether you are a fan of either of these books or not, these were game changers. Fifty years from now, pop culture will refer back to 1986’s Dark Knight and Watchmen books. It will not refer back to 2015 Dark Knight III. It just won’t happen. So lets do a quick reminder before the hate mail, Dark Knight III will probably be a great read. Better than II, but it probably won’t be a game changer. A game changer will always be a reference, a shape, a starting point, a long term monetary gain. Here is the pricing of three recent graded copies of DKI (1986) and what they sold for; 9.4 $220, 9.6 $239, 9.8 $750. Don’t you feel the pricing should be just a bit higher here, considering the iconic attachment of this book right? Well it probably would be, but one slight setback, too many copies out there. According to the CGC Census there are 344 9.8 graded copies and 725 at 9.6 and 350 at 9.4. and so on…..that’s a whole lot of comics. This is the reason the pricing will steadily increase over the years, but will never bounce to ridiculous numbers quickly like DKIII will in the immediate interim. Now lets relate ALL of this to Dark Knight III. The other speculative sites will inform buyers that this will be a book for the ages. Newsflash, It’s not going to be, but most buy into it and will jump all over it. All of those crispy 9.8 rare variants of Dark Knight III will go out to the grading companies and now you will eventually far exceed the 344 copies from 1986 that grade at 9.8. They will sell at or ABOVE the last sold copy from 1986. Does this make sense at all to you? Oh yes yes, it’s a special cover that’s right. The inside is still the same right? Yes yes it is, we’ve already established that. But man is this a great money grab right? There will be over hyped buyers listening to these other sites and essentially making a bad purchase, but readers here will be smart and sell their books if they can double/triple their money. Do not let greed set in, you will eventually lose.

Dark Knight I (1986) contained the first appearance of Carrie Kelly. It was written Frank Miller. Art by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson. Dark Knight III this Wednesday will be written by Brian Azzarello and ….Frank Miller? Back to that in a sec. Art by Andy Kubert /Klaus Janson. So it’s said that Frank Miller had nothing to do with the story. DC attached his name as though Miller was an intricate part of the story, but he kind of wasn’t. Frank Miller did state though that he will be THE writer on Dark Knight IV. Oh joy, 80 variants for that one we hope!

Will Dark Knight III contain that all too important first appearance to keep its lure? Will the story be so groundbreaking that it changes the comic book medium? This is the only way in the comic collectors hobby that DKIII will sustain its long term monetary value in ANY way. Otherwise what you will have in that $600 Jim Lee variant cover is…..a pretty cover. Good luck with that. Invest that $600 on a Silver Age or Bronze Age book.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

In closing regarding DKIII. Before anyone sends the hate mail we are not suggesting you do not buy DKIII or any of its variants. We are not down on DKIII. We’re not saying NOT to buy it. You absolutely should. It’s probably going to be a cool read, but what we are saying is not to get caught up in the hype and waste your hard earned money. If you dig a variant and it’s expensive, but YOU dig it, then by all means buy it. Buy what you like because you connect with it. We like to inform collectors of the reality of things and not the fantasy when it comes to speculation. Barring any major introductions or groundbreaking storytelling, this series at the end of the day will be just another good Batman story. Which is fine.

NOTE: To any of the Frank Miller fans, did you know we have a Frank Miller checklist on InvestComics? Yep. Right HERE. Have fun and click on those Miller books you either didn’t know about or forgot about altogether!

(insert sarcasm here) Oh my goodness! It’s Harley Quinn on the cover of a Deathstroke comic! Will Deathstroke #12 be just like the RARE Scooby Doo Team-Up #12 Harley Quinn comic that InvestComics did NOT recommend and sold for a whopping $5.99 on Ebay last week?! No, but it’s a bad as* team-up and should be checked out.

Check out Justice League 3001 #6 as a new race of New Gods make an appearance.

A must read new DC/Vertigo title this Wednesday; Jacked #1. We can see this “ordinary” character becoming a movie or TV series one day.

Image Comics informs their Black Magick readers that a major character introduction will come in Black Magick #2. Sticking with the tip-off deal here from Image, Rumble #9 is set to introduce two major characters into the fray.

WWE fans may want to be put on alert as Ringside #1 from Image Comics hits this week. A violent wrestling story from writer Joe Keatinge. No John Cena here….maybe that’s for the best?

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Saga #31 will return its story line to real time.

Back in 2010 InvestComics pointed out a nice cheap Jack Kirby number one issue/first appearance. It was Devil Dinosaur #1 (1978) and a near mint raw copy was selling for about $9. King Kirby was the writer, artist, editor, and the cover artist of this book for most of the nine issue run. A graded 9.8 PGX graded sold last week for about $74. Still a bargain actually! Why the mention of Devil Dinosaur? Well a sleeper book may hit this Wednesday so don’t nap on it. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #1 will be a good book. A few variants available, but the regular Amy Reeder cover is our fav. Also a note here and maybe more important than anything we just said. Back in 1978 not only was Devil Dinosaur’s first appearance in the number one issue, but it was also the first appearance of Moon Boy. Guess who’s first appearance is in the 2015 number issue? Yep, Moon Girl.

Regular visitors to the InvestComics website know that we are big fans of Silk. Always have been. We have always felt there is more upside to her character than many other new female characters within the Marvel Universe. Silk #1 in it’s second volume already hits this Wednesday. Written by Robbie Thompson and art by Stacey Lee. You’re going to have to fight through a lot of the Silk #1 volume 1 to find Silk #1 volume 2 on Ebay right now. The popularity of the latest series should overtake the current 300+ listings of volume 1. Or after you click the link, you can input “vol 2” on the search bar! Some still come up differently on Ebay, so you’ll have to try different searches; i.e. Volume 2, Silk #1 vol 2, Silk vol 2 #1, etc…..

So what does Marvel do if they A: don’t want to pursue the Rom character back from obscurity or B: never cared enough to even think they want Rom back so they lost out to IDW Publishing in getting Rom back first even if they did in fact want him. Confused yet? We are. Anyway, comic fans know by now that Rom Space Knight is now at IDW Publishing. With that, Marvel will try to one up IDW this Wednesday with Venom Space Knight #1. No for real, no joke. No Amazing Spider-Man #300 Venom here, no this is Venom Space Knight! Marvel put writer Robbie Thompson and artist Ariel Olivetti on this book. They’re looking for a pop here. Will they get it? Hmmm…..maybe not? Maybe? But the Mike Deodato Jr. variant is awesome though isn’t it?

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

What happened to Fiona Staples on Archie?? Welcome artist Annie Wu to Archie #4. Fantastic Paul Renaud variant cover.

InvestComics gave you a heads up on Henchgirl #1 from Scout Comics. It sold out it’s short print run rather quick. Now the followup; Henchgirl #2. Will the second issue dictate where the series is headed? Will fans pick up on it? If you dug the first issue, show your support. Oh wait wait, we forgot to mention, Henchgirl #2 is sold out. Maybe the fans are speaking out already!

This week InvestComics will spotlight Todd McFarlane. As always, there will be many comics that are not included here, but that’s okay. We’re here to have fun.

Todd Mcfarlane was and still is a very big deal in the comic book industry. He commands your attention. He’s an entrepreneur with a toy line that rivals any action figure company out there today. Also, his artwork style rivals anyone in the industry. Todd’s artwork is a unique brand. Not everyone is a fan of it, but the voice of a few never outweighs the voice of many. He brings the angles to life and a certain realism that brings many to instantly relate to it. His Spidey bends in ways that are probably anatomically impossible for any human being to do, but we believe Spider-Man can really bend like this and it almost makes sense. Todd McFarlane’s Spidey became the main staple for many artist to emulate after. If you’re a Spider-Man artist, you want to make sure you’re up to par with Todd. Then there is Spawn. Spawn #1 sold over a million and a half copies and to this day remains one of the highest selling comic books of all time. Todd has gone on to do so much for the industry, but Spawn is his baby. This man is the real deal. Always has been, always will be.

Let’s check out some of his key books. As always on InvestComics, click the red links or comic covers to buy/bid on Ebay as you read. It’ll even open in a separate window so that you won’t lose your place!

So in no particular order, let’s go!

Todd’s first professional work was at Marvel Comics. Coyote #11 (1985). He was the penciler in a backup story. His first DC work was in Infinity Inc. #14 (1985). Todd collaborated on the cover and penciled the issue.

Incredible Hulk #330 (1987) – First solo Marvel comic cover. Todd went on to do many Hulk issues. He was a fantastic Hulk artist.

Crusade of Comics Presents: Spawn #1 (1992) – The first time Spawn ever saw print. This very cool free mini-comic insert is the first true appearance of Spawn. The insert predates Spawn #1. A very nice collectors item for any comic enthusiast. Not many of these on Ebay right now. It was included in the ‘Lotus’ VHS tape. What is VHS? Google it.

The Amazing Spider-Man #298 (1988) – This was the game changer. Todd’s Spidey shooting those webs on the cover that became standard after he defined them and Spidey’s physical attributes contributed to the new age for Spider-Man. The Spider-Man character has two defining artist in his storied history, Steve Ditko and Todd McFarlane. There have been fabulous artist throughout the entire runs, but no two artist have defined the character the way they have.

The Amazing Spider-Man #300 (1988) – After redefining Spider-Man two issues prior, Todd blows the doors off with this comic. The first appearance of Venom and that cover. This cover, (as many of Todd’s covers) has been paid homage to so many times over the years, it’s ridiculous. Todd has officially arrived.

Detective Comics #576 (1987) – A year prior to his Spidey, Todd killed it with his Batman. He went on to do other Batman comics thereafter.

Spawn #1 (1992) – One of the biggest selling comics of all time. Anyone who is a comic book collector owns this comic book. Even if they didn’t buy it, its somehow made its way into one of your comic book boxes. For real, check you’ll find one. Still Todd’s baby though.

Spawn-Batman #1 (1994) – With Spawn exploding at the seams in popularity, what better way to capitalize than to get Batman AND Frank Miller involved? This was a huge book upon it’s release and never lived up to its hype. Still a fun team-up, creative wise and character wise, a great book to own. Wait, want more of a reason to buy this comic? How about that this is Greg Capullo’s very first Batman work! Miller, McFarlane and Capullo……..I’ll take one thank you.

Superman Special #1 (1992) – Todd’s first Superman work. A pinup. Also Todd’s last DC original work.

Daredevil #241 (1987) – Todd’s first and only(?) Dardevil work. This was a fill in job. He penciled the entire issue. Mike Zeck/Klaus Janson cover.

Spitfire and the Troubleshooters #4 (1987) – This is another unusual fill in issue, penciling the entire issue.

Flaming Carrot Comics #27 (1991) – How about McFarlane drawing up some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Yep, right here! He went on to do a pinup in 1992’s TMNT #50, but this is his first Turtle book.

G.I. Joe #60 (1987) – Todd filled in for a G.I. Joe comic. Looking at this now, it seems so unlike Todd to pencil a Joe book right? Todd was supposed to do two issues, but issue number 61 was never to be. Actually, it was never to be printed. Marvel nixed the McFarlane issue for whatever reason, it wasn’t until some eight years later that issue would ever see print……

G.I. Joe Special #1 (1995) – Here is Todd’s “G.I. Joe #61”. It’s labeled as a special number one issue, with Todd McFarlane’s name attached to maximize monetary value for Marvel. Smart move. This comic also happens to be Todd’s last original work for Marvel ever printed. And boy does that cover look strikingly similar to someone, just can’t quite place it.

What The?! #3 (1988) – McFarlane has done quite a few backup stories in his time. Here is one that he did in this odd book called “Bat-Man”. Awesome parody stuff in a Marvel book here.

Mazing Man Special #3 (1988) – More unusual McFarlane stuff here. Here he does a Mazing Man backup.

The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #10 (1990) – During his Amazing Spider-Man run, this Spidey backup story is often forgotten.

Marvel Comics Presents #32 (1989) – With the Black Panther movie on the horizon, how about the first and only work Todd has ever done on the Black Panther? Todd does an awesome wraparound here. Black Panther is on the back cover.

Guardians of the Galaxy #5 (1990) – A Guardians of the Galaxy cover by the man here.

Quasar #14 (1990) – A fantastic cosmic cover from Todd. If Quasar ever comes into the fold with the Marvel cosmic universe they are creating for the movies, this would be a nice book no? Yes of course it would be.

Sandman #50 (1993) – Todd does a pinup in Sandman. Seems absolutely fitting for some reason doesn’t it?

Incredible Hulk #340 (1988) – The first Wolverine by Todd destined to become a classic cover. And it has.

Marvel Age #90 (1990) – Here is an original Todd McFarlane Spider-Man cover that might be rarer than most Spidey covers he’s done.

Spider-Man #16 (1991) – How about this spectacular sideways classic cover? This would be the end of Todd’s run with Spider-Man. Good way to go out.

Wizard Magazine #1 (1991) – Ah, the real speculation boom started here. As InvestComics has said for many years, thanks to Wizard magazine for the thought process of having InvestComics be born. We’ll take it from here Wizard, thanks. The classic Wizard Spider-Man cover!

The Crow #1 (1999) – A collaboration cover with Brian Haberlin here. The Crow is making its way back to the big screen.

Gene Simmons House of Horrors #1 (2007) – Gene Simmons from Kiss writes the intro for this comic and Todd teams up with Greg Capullo for the cover art. An usual IDW collaboration for the two here.

The Walking Dead #100 (2012) – McFarlane did a cover for the Walking Dead back in 2012. It was a 100th issue celebration cover in which many artist contributed their own cover. This was Todd’s cover, a rather morbid one and just right!
