DC Comics is at it again. Changing things up and all. Marvel did their bi-yearly cleaning a little bit ago, so now it’s DC’s turn. One thing the big two are not afraid of is change. Superman, to wear red underwear or not to wear red underwear, this is one of the burning questions in all of comic book fandom. The red underwear chronicles, this is the name of an epic event coming up in the new Superman title. Important stuff here! Jim Lee lays the claim down that the red underwear were to always come back after he designed them to not appear on the new costume. Okay Jim. Now the return was met with the answer; “It’s a temporary return”. Everyone does realize we are talking about red underwear, right? Is this topic that important in the grand scheme of things relating to the actual character development here in the future? The answer is quite simple, no. But, this said, there is a reason regular civilian automobiles do not look like mini-tanks or eat up tons of fuel anymore, there is a reason why logo’s for billion dollar corporations change things up, a reason for phones not flipping open anymore. The natural progression of evolution and aesthetic look. It’s ‘normal’ to want to move along and bring things up to date a little bit. Comic fans need to chill a bit when it comes to change. Could you imagine if Superman still actually appeared the way he did in Action Comics #1 today? It wouldn’t sell any copies. Maybe a few, but you understand the meaning here. And so with that long diatribe regarding ‘unimportant’ red underwear, DC Nation #0 is said to have sold (best Dr. Evil impression) one million copies. This according to DC Comics themselves. A million copies. That’s a whole lotta comic books. Granted at a quarter each, local comic shops probably ordered heavy, thus creating that million sales mark. A FREE edition, a 25 cents edition and some variant editions of DC Nation #0 will be available. DC cashing in on that FREE comic thing. Hey, it’s business. DC Nation #0 features all new stories that will CHANGE THE DC UNIVERSE as we know it! Yes, that’s sarcasm, but of course we’ll all check this comic out because we need to. Curiosity/interest will always win out.
Superman will also appear in Action Comics Special #1 this week. No red underwear though. Sorry underwear fans. This comic was originally slated for a 2017 holiday release but is just as jolly now. Dan Jurgens and Will Conrad lead the way.
Original Harley Quinn co-creator, Paul Dini returns to his beloved character for a two-part series; Harley Quinn Loves Joker #1. This mini will wrap up his back-up stories that were appearing in the regular Harley series. Art by Bert Blevins.
The battle of the century (not really, but still bad as*) continues in Deathstroke #31. Deathstroke VS. Batman part two.
Cyborg #22 features the first appearance of Mekkan-X.

A look into the future of Captain America in Captain America #701. The year is 2314. That’s way, way into the future. We’re talking grandson of Steve Rogers, grandson? But 300 years from now? Okay. Anyway, this comic features contributions from various all-star creators with Mark Waid and Leonardo Romero front and center. The Deadpool variant is sold out.
Avengers begins anew again. The seventh time for those keeping score at home. Avengers #1 from writer Jason Aaron and artist Ed McGuiness. ‘Back to basics’ with this Avengers title. As though it seems.
More Wolverine returns stories. This week; Hunt For Wolverine Lost #1. Charles Soule and Matteo Buffagni.
An anti-climatic ending to Brian Michael Bendis’ Spider-Man run. He ends his seven year run with no extra variants and no fanfare. Maybe it’s because he went to the ‘evil empire’. These comic companies are funny aren’t they? Their ‘feelings’ are always the guidance to their not caring about sales or their fans. Hence X-Men, Fantastic Four and other things I cannot think of off the top of my head. So now this ‘quiet’ send off to a seven year writer that created a new Spider-Man (Miles Morales). Oh well. Spider-Man #240 will be Mr. Bendis’ last Spidey issue. Looking forward to what Brian brings to the table at DC. Good luck at the new digs!
Has anyone seen the new Venom trailer? Personally, not a fan of the visual of Venom. Very 90’s. Maybe they’ll clean it up a bit? Just an opinion here. Venom wraps up his series this Wednesday; Venomized #5.
And have you seen the latest Deadpool trailer? Now that looks like a trip and a half. Looking forward to this. Check out You Are Deadpool #1 from writer Al Ewing and artist Salva Espin. Not exactly sure how this comic will work out, but something about ‘fans’ deciding on what happens within the pages of the book. Sounds very Deadpool’ish and we’re in.

Trending Pop Culture Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
Writer Gail Simone will do her thing; Red Sonja/Tarzan #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) with artist Walter Geovani. Several of the variants are sold out already. Look for this comic to trend and sell out completely.
Due to release last week, Scout Comics gets their soon to be sold out comic Cyber Spectre #1 going. Writer Richard Emms and artist Ale Garza.
Alien Toilet Monsters #1 is finally set for wide release. Creators Carol Zara and Eric Burnett. This comic was/is trending heavy within the social media circuits. Look for the same in wide release.
Writer Rick Remender and artist Bengal bring Death Or Glory #1 to the shelf this week. Super talents will equal a super book.

Top 5 Hot Picks #126

Every week before new comic book day, InvestComics provides our fans with the Top 5 Hot Picks for new comics coming out on Wednesday. This list is pulled straight from the latest (weekly) InvestComics Hot Picks article. This week’s Top 5 based on InvestComics Hot Picks #488 and new comics coming this Wednesday 8/16/17.

Totally Awesome Hulk #22 – Three weeks ago we gave fans a heads up on this comic. On our Facebook page and within the InvestComics Hot Picks #485 article. Now this comic commands 3 times it’s value before its release on Wednesday. You could have been on this comic at cover price three weeks ago, but maybe we should act like all of these sites that have completely emulated us and scream about how you can send your children to college if you buy 500 copies of this comic. We’ll pass on that behavior and leave that to the amateurs. How is that rare Scooby Doo Harley Quinn book doing? Anyway, the first ‘full’ appearance of Weapon H right here.
Dark Nights: Metal #1 – Duke gets a superhero name and a new costume. We’re not going to scream about this either. With creator names like Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo and Danny Miki, do we really need any other reason to not check this comic out? The answer is no. We check it out because we have talent on this book.
Superman #29 – The first Yellow Lantern Superman within DC continuity.
Sheena #0 – If you’re looking to make some quick cash, follow these steps. Step 1, buy this limited J.Scott Campbell variant. Two, track down J.Scott Campbell at a comic convention. Three, get him to sign this comic (pay J.Scott Campbell). Four, send this to your favorite grading company and score a 9.8 or higher (must score a 9.8 or higher). Be sure to get 2 day on it, do not do snail grading (unless you like losing money or making very little to breaking even). Five, when you receive your 9.8 or higher, sell it. Six (optional), send a percent of your earnings (‘a thank you’) to either paypal.me/InvestComicsLLC or the InvestComics LLC PO Box. You’re welcome.
Divinity #0 – Another Valiant Entertainment kick as* book. A jumping on point. Should have leaped a while ago, but Valiant is allowing for jumpers now……so jump.

A possible big introduction within the continuity of Superman and the DC Universe this week in Superman #29. Yellow Lantern Superman may debut. The Ryan Sook cover shows Superman in full Yellow Lantern garb. Could it be? Obvious, yes, but who knows really. Let’s all check this comic out and see if this really is what we think it is. Yellow Lantern Superman did first appear in Injustice Gods Among Us: Year Two #11 in 2014. This story was outside of the realm of continuity and Superman #29 will be inside the DCU, so you make the call as to which you feel is the true first appearance.
Another ‘devastating, push to their limits, never seen, etc…’ event from DC Comics this Wednesday. This time is under the name Dark Nights: Metal #1. We’re almost certain this comic (and series) will be a great read (Scott Snyder) with amazing art (Greg Capullo/Danny Miki), but can we ease up on the throttle a bit with the hype ‘THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING’ rhetoric? Let readers decide. We’re smart. Well, some of us are, but still. A new Duke costume and superhero name does not account for all of the hype. Relax. Dial it back a little.

Comic fans have waited patiently for the new Hulk with Wolverine claws to debut. The wait is over this week. Totally Awesome Hulk #22 introduces Batch H/Weapon H in his first FULL appearance. InvestComics gave fans a heads up on this comic a few weeks ago and even provided an Ebay link to buy this comic early. Well now….sold out across the board and Ebay has this comic at $20 or more already. Writer Greg Pak and artist Robert Gill bring fans a new Hulk character that could be around for years to come if there is a positive response and from the looks of it….Weapon H may have arrived.
While a new Hulk character is introduced this week, an older one could be meeting his fate in U.S. Avengers #9. Will Marvel off the Red Hulk to make room for the Hulk with claws?
Marvel continues their ‘Generations’ books this week. In some cases, pitting the ‘old’ verses the ‘new’. Although it seems we are getting more of a team-up comic this week; Generations: Wolverine & All New Wolverine #1. Creators, writer Tom Taylor and artist Ramon Rosanas. Contrary to the promotions (a bit) from Marvel, this is not the first, real official meeting between these two. They met way back in 2016 (insert sarcasm); All-New Wolverine #1.
One of the strangest characters to arrive in a long time gets a ‘focal’ book this week. Generation X #5 ‘focuses’ on the character Eye-Boy. In case you really dig this character and you’re in the market for the first appearance, find Wolverine & The X-Men #19 (2012).
Manifold will join the Black Panther team in Black Panther & The Crew #5. Manifold first appeared in Secret Warriors #4 (2009).

Indie Hot Picks;
One of the best storytelling independent comics comes out with a relaunch this Wednesday. Divinity #0 is a jumping on point for the readers that have yet to discover one of the best kept secrets within the comic book industry. That is, Valiant Entertainment. Divinity #0 written by Matt Kindt and drawn by Renato Guedes.

We love the Silk character and we love the Mark Bagley variant cover to Silk #2!
Squadron Supreme #1 debuts on new comic book day. It should be a good team book. Written by James Robinson and art from Leonard Kirk. Squadron Supreme first appeared in Avengers #85 (1971).
An interesting Marvel title this week to check out; Starbrand and Nightmask #1. Pick up the first appearances of Starbrand (new) in Avengers #7 (2013) and the first appearance of Nightmask (character) in Avengers #6 (2013) for cover price or less if you believe in these heroes to advance to greater heights in the realm of the new Marvel universe. Speculators have been put on notice.
Ultimate End #5 will be the last issue. See how it all ends. We’re loving that cover with Miles looking back. *sniff sniff*
Marvel’s new Weirdworld series will introduce a new character named Becca. We like the direction of this new series. Stay with this one. Written by Sam Humphries. Art by Mike Del Mundo. The regular “Flash/Shazam/Black Adam” Lightning bolt cover is awesome as well. Be sure to pick up Weirdworld #1 Vol. 2.

What would be better than having Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti on the monthly Harley Quinn and Starfire comics? How about a totally creative controlled NEW comic character by the awesome duo? Yes it will happen and HER name will be Super Zero. Super Zero #1 will be written by Amanda and Jimmy. Dru Dragowski (Super Zero) will become the next big female hero to enter the comic book arena. After-Shock Comics once again, week after week continues to bring it. After-Shock Comics are not gunning for tremors, they’re gunning to split the foundation of the comic industry. ASC will be a force to be reckoned with.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

An all new Judge Dredd series from IDW comes out this week. Judge Dredd #1 Vol. 5 will have several variants available. The Archie variant is a neat one.
IDW will also start on a new Star Trek series. This has nothing to do with the Marvel title from 1996. Star Trek Starfleet Academy #1 will introduce new Star Trek characters so if you’re a Trekkie, you’ll want to get this. Speculators have been notified.
Also from IDW; Pinocchio Vampire Slayer Versus The Vampire Zoo. A fun looking book!

Justice League United #15 will team 4 groups together for the first time in one book. Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, Creature Commandos, and OMAC. Great reading here!

Speaking of a great read, check out Superman American Alien #1. This comic will have writer Max Landis teaming with several of the industries superstars for a seven issue series chronicling Clark Kent as a youngster and then working all the way up to Superman. The series is said to be a look as we’ve never seen before, so we are excited. The first issue will be illustrated by Nick Dragotta of East of West. Fantastic Ryan Sook cover too.

Vertigo’s new mini-series; Slash and Burn #1 should be on your reading list this week.

Not too sure how the conservatives or politically correct will handle the title of the new Image Comic; The Goddamned #1. Writer Jason Aaron probably has a hit book here regardless of what anyone thinks. Jock supplies a cool variant.

Miles Morales will join the All new all different Avengers #1. Lets see how he is as a full time team player. Written by Mark Waid and drawn by Adam Kubert. The Jim Cheung hip hop cover is our favorite. This series will do well.

All new Wolverine #1 will have X-23 as the main character. Her first appearance was in NYX #3 (2004). X-23 was hot for a while there a few years back. She cooled off and then she fell into obscurity. Not anymore! The regular cover and the hip hop variant are the best covers.

Creator Spotlight – Rob Liefeld

As all of the Creator Spotlights on InvestComics, each and every one of the creators have their own uniqueness. Rob Liefeld stormed into the industry back in 1987 and took the industry by the proverbial ears, starred into its eyes and said “I’m taking over.” So he he did.

He was one of the busiest creators in the industry at one time. The man was churning out comics at a ridiculous rate. That was good for the fans because they couldn’t seem to get enough.

Check out some of Rob Liefeld’s key books in his vast career thus far. Everything from Deadpool to Jada Pinkett Smith. Yes Jada….

Marc Spector, Moon Knight #19 (1990) A solo Rob Liefeld Moon Knight cover with Spider-Man and the Punisher.

New Mutants #98 (1991) Well here it is. The Holy Grail. Only fours years into his professional career, Rob hits on a character that will forever change his career and the Marvel character landscape. The cover alone has been paid respect to so many times throughout the years. Rob Liefeld introduced the world to Deadpool and Marvel had a character for the ages. Not much can be said about this comic and character that hasn’t been said already, but Rob is officially a superstar now.

X-Force #1 (1991) This comic was ridiculously hot back in the early 90’s. Too many copies released prevented it from gaining any substantial aftermarket heat. Rob pencils/inks and cover art. Many collectors these days go after the bagged issue with the Deadpool trading card. Claiming it’s an early appearance of Deadpool. It’s a card. Seriously, it’s a card, not a comic appearance.
