Marvel’s new Legacy brand comes with a bevy of lenticular covers. Some of the covers leave a bit to be desired, while others will have a place within the comic collectors heart. Some may even have speculative implications. Case in point this week, A Rob Liefeld Cable #150 features the homage cover (paying homage to himself because he’s awesome like that) to New Mutants #87 (first Cable appearance). Not only will the cover create interest, but the talk of new characters and a NEW New Mutants team can give fans more of reason to buy this comic. The same can be said for the Spider-Gwen #25 lenticular cover. Eye candy, paying homage to Todd McFarlane’s Amazing Spider-Man #316 cover. Khary Randolph does the honors here to Todd. The Spider-Gwen #25 comic will be hot for other reasons too though. It’s the Gwenom craze that will help this comic sell out. It’s already trending (up-ticking) in the aftermarket.
Back in 2013, InvestComics spoke highly of Greg Pak’s Planet Hulk. We informed fans to get on top of these books because Mr. Pak has essentially created an entire new universe around the Hulk character. It’s seen then come to fruition as Planet Hulk plays a role in the new Thor Ragnarok movie. It also plays a role in returning this week in The Incredible Hulk #709…..written by GREG PAK. He’s the main reason the Hulk character is even a thought on any directors/producers mind and fans as well. Daredevil & Batman have Frank Miller, Conan has Roy Thomas, Spidey has McFarlane, Thor has Walt Simonson, Hulk has Greg Pak and on and on. It’s as simple as that. Greg Pak rewrites the Planet Hulk starting this week and comic fans should be delighted.
The end is nigh for Jane Foster? Find out the answer in The Mighty Thor #700, ‘Death of the Mighty Thor part 1’.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
The Black Panther movie will arrive in a little bit and fans will have Black Panther Prelude #1 to digest as part of the leading up to the movie. Creators Will Pilgrim and Annapaola Martello. You know what this prelude comic to the movie means right? It means that Will and Annapaola have either read the script or seen the movie already. That’s a sweet gig right there.
Comic fans get a good ol’ fashioned comic book fight this week; Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan #1. Writer Declan Shalvey and artist Mike Henderson. Ding-ding!
Journey to Star Wars The Last Jedi: Captain Phasma #4 will have our captain leading a new army against a new foe. All Marvel Star Wars comics are stellar. Nuff said.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks;
We informed our fans that The Realm #1 was sold out and you needed to grab a copy if need be. The Realm #2 comes out this week. Probably have to do the same here.
Maestros #1 from Image Comics. This story by Steve Skroce is being called a ‘masterpiece’ by writer Brian K. Vaughan. That’s some endorsement, no? Steve works the art as well alongside Dave Stewart.
Kid Lobotomy #1 (IDW Publishing). Creators; Peter Milligan and Tess Fowler.
John Wick #1 (Dynamite Entertainment). Our favorite Hulk writer Greg Pak on this one. Giovanni Valletta illustrates.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
It was great to see the guys (and gal) from the Scout Comics booth doing their thing at the NYCC 2017 this past weekend. Their booth was full of fans buying up their product off of the long line of various comics to choose from. This week Scout Comics releases InferNoct #1. The Eli Powell variant is already sold out. Scout Comics publishing have a knack of their new release comics selling out. That’s what happens when you put together a good product. Creators on this comic; Mina Elwell (awesome meeting her at NYCC) and Eli Powell.
The Apocalypse Girl #1 (Amigo Comics). Creators El Torres and Ramiro Borrallo.

If you have any comics that did not make this list, please feel free to weigh in below or on one of other social media outlets.

Iron Fist Checklist

Marvel Premiere #15 (1974) The first appearance of Iron Fist. The holy grail of Iron Fist comics. Writer Roy Thomas, Pencils and cover Gil Kane, and inker Dick Giodano.

When Marvel/Netflix get it together, Iron Fist will be a household name. If for some reason it doesn’t work out with Netflix, look for Marvel to want to hit the big screen instead. The mere fact that the Iron Fist character is mentioned so much these days shows a tremendous amount of interest on Marvel’s (Disney’s) part. So with that, Marvel will start the Kung-Fu entertainment revolution once again either way. This comic also features the first appearances of Ferocia, Harold Meachum, Nuan, Wendell Rand, Heather Rand. Shu-Hu, and Yu-Ti.

The Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #1 (1974) First appearance of Lin Sun, Robert Diamond, and Abraham Brown.

The Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu Special #1 (1974) The second appearance of Iron Fist. This is a magazine form comic.

Marvel Premiere #16 (1974) Iron Fist’s second comic book appearance. First appearances of Fu-Hsi. Scythe, Shou-Lao the Undying, and Thunderer. Origin continued.

Marvel Premiere #17 (1974) First appearance of Triple-Iron.

Marvel Premiere #18 (1974) First appearance of Joy Meachum. Iron Fist origin issue.

Marvel Premiere #19 (1974) The first appearances of Colleen Wing and Professor Lee Wing. This comic also signifies the first appearance of Wolverine via an ad within the comic. It predates The Incredible Hulk #181. Cool stuff.

Marvel Premiere #21 (1975) First appearances of Shaya, Ushas and Misty Knight.

Kevin Eastman of TMNT fame will co-write a new series coming out from Dynamite Entertainment; Cage Hero #1.

Also from Dynamite, James Bond fans will have something to celebrate besides the movie coming to a theater near you. A new comic; James Bond #1. The last variant count we have is up to 10, so plenty of pointless variants to choose from. We’d love to say to get your paws on the Jock variant, but we’re very unimpressed with the cover. Eye candy is nil.

Shane Davis’ Axcend #2, now that’s an impressive variant. And a cool comic too!

If you’re a person that follows the political landscape and you love demons, then Citizen Jack #1 (Image) is for you. Check out this crazy off-beat comic from writer Sam Humphries and artist Tommy Patterson.

There are a few reasons why to love Monstress #1 from Image Comics. First and foremost, it’s written by the talented Marjorie Liu. Second, it’s drawn by X-23 artist Sana Takeda. Third, it’s a new ongoing series, and fourth, it contains 66 (yes 66) pages of comic story with no interruptions. All for a $4.99 price point. There are currently none of these comics available on Ebay right now.

Paper Girls #2 will follow up Brian K Vaughan’s hit debut issue.

A gorgeous variant cover from Gabriele Dell Otto this week; Amazing Spider-Man (Vol 4) #3. Onward to volume five starring Deadpool in Deadpool (Vol 5) #1. Another relaunch within the new Marvel Universe. It is Deadpool though, so expect early price gauging on some of the variants, then back to reality. Lots of variants to choose from here.

Fans of the WWE will recognize the writer’s name in Drax #1. None other than CM Punk. He’s already done some work over at DC Comics (which we’ve covered), but this is the first time he’s doing creative work for Marvel Comics. The Ed McGuinness UFC cage variant would be a nice comic to get signed/graded if you’re a CM Punk fan. Thing is about the UFC gig, Punk announced he would be headed towards the UFC for some real deal fighting a long time ago (earlier this year?). Everyone is still waiting. That all said, a Drax solo comic should be a fun deal.

A new Hercules (Vol 4) #1 from Marvel arrives this Wednesday. The best of all volumes in the Marvel Universe came in 1982’s Hercules #1. The entire comic practically, creatively, was done by the awesome Bob Layton. It was a great four issue mini-series. In 2015, writer Dan Abnett and artist Luke Ross take a crack at it.

The biggest comic in all the land this week will be……brace yourself…..ready…..Howard The Duck (Vol 5) #1. I cannot believe I just typed that! And no we’re not drinking the Kool-Aid that some others may serve up. The mention of this comics has nothing to do pertaining to the character in this title. Simply because the latest craze in all the land; Gwenpool. And yes InvestComics gave speculators a heads up on her first appearance. (we’re awesome like that). Gwenpool will grace a variant cover and guess what? It’s sold out already! No surprise there. So the question here is not whether this will be a Scooby Doo #12 (which InvestComics did not talk about. Completed listings not sold on Ebay recently at $16.95/$14.95/$6.00) or a comic to buy and sell for a possible nice sum of money to buy a couple of weeks worth of your pull list. The answer is the latter. And here’s something for anyone really pushing the Howard The Duck character too. If you visit InvestComics on a regular basis, you will remember the Howard The Duck speculator clinic we put forth in March of this year. Remember, InvestComics is always in a business oriented mindset first and foremost when speaking about money for the speculator. We are looking out for your best interest. No fanboy stuff here, go elsewhere for that. So we are going to copy and paste the idea we put forth of why we think Howard The Duck will not come to fruition anytime soon on television or the movies.

..…..The Howard book will be a fun read though, so get it for at least that reason! Both are cool. So don’t get all hurt that I’m not that high on the Howard book. Speculation = opinion. Not that owning the Fear #19 (1976) book (first appearance of Howard the Duck) is a bad thing, but if you’re in the market to buy a good first appearance for $250 or $500 dollars, there are other books to seriously consider. Ask yourself this. Would Disney really want to jeopardize/replace the lure of Donald Duck with a wise cracking, cigar smoking duck? I highly doubt they want to throw Howard in our faces as the duck to really remember and constantly have questions from children to adults saying, “Is that Donald Duck?”. Um no. Disney would not want this. Why do you think there is no real talk about a cartoon or a movie pertaining to Howard? For this reason. Too close to Donald. Maybe someday Disney will bite the bullet and release a Howard cartoon or movie, but as for right now it’s not happening. Maybe a Howard the Duck comic book is a feeler to see what sort of attention it gets? Then maybe we’ll get some real news of something? This speculator doesn’t think we’ll see anything for some time. The Donald lure is way more important to Disney right now than destroying the very fabric of Disneyland or anything pertaining to Donald with people constantly mistaking Donald for Howard. Bycomparison, will we ever see a nasty mouse character created within the Marvel U that looks very similar to the Big Mouse with an attitude and possible cigar? The short answer is no. Howard will stay where he is right now and Disney is very content with that.

So there you have it. Lets recap shall we? Buy the Howard/Gwenpool variant this Wednesday, think about spending your $250-$500 elsewhere instead of his first appearance. Simple enough.

It’s just a matter of time before we see Nova appear in a movie or get his own thing going right? The Nova comics have always been entertaining, Nova (Vol 6) #1 will not disappoint.

A new Star Wars comic; Star Wars #11. An awesome Stuart Immonen cover here. We turned the comic horizontally so fans can really see it in its full glory. As always, any and all Star Wars comics; always a buy here at InvestComics.
A lot of creators from the comic industry contribute to Uncanny X-Men #600. Comic fans will want to thumb through this to see if their favorite creator contributed.
The new Vision (Vol 2) #1 looks very interesting. A definite pick up. A possible sleeper here. Take a look at that Ryan Sook variant as well, sweet.

451 Media Group seem to have a new hot book almost every week now. ExMortis #1 is sold out. Would you believe us if we told you that there will be a Santa Claus Year One type comic coming this week? How about if we told you that Grant Morrison will write it? Okay so this is Boom Studios’ premise to their new Klaus #1 comic. All set to a viking theme of course. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Others to check out; Hangman #1 (Dark Circle). Exodus Life After #1 (Oni Press). And just in time for Halloween, a story (sold out) from Space Goat Productions; Forty Coffins #1. Johnny Red #1 (Titans Comics) Garth Ennis writes. Another possible sleeper this week to watch out for; Niobe She Is Life #1 from Stranger Comics.

If you’ve been living under a rock, you should have noticed by now that the Marvel universe has gone through some changes lately. This Wednesday Marvel will begin the first phase on changing their entire spectrum of the way you are use to seeing Marvel. It will be vastly different. Good, bad or indifferent, it’s happening with or without you. So if you’re on board that’s great, if you’re not, you’ll come back like you always do. Regular readers on InvestComics will know that we recommend entire runs of comic series. In the sense we recommend picking up each and every copy of a series because of the potential of a breakout introduction character/event. Any Marvel Star Wars comics or any of the Spider-Verse (first series) comics are prime examples. Incidentally, Darth Vader #10, Lando #5, and Journey To Star Wars Force Awakens Shattered Empire #2 come out this Wednesday!

Marvel Point One #1 comics or anything from Marvel regarding this new universe will have a large speculative market attached to it. No one will really know who or what or where that “big” book will happen/come. That “Spider-Gwen” or “Gwen-Pool” moment if you will. Maybe it’ll never happen, but with this huge restructure of the Marvel Universe, there are bound to be possible breakouts. Could the new universe be a bust? Maybe, nothing is written in stone here, but be a smart investor here. Don’t get caught up in the hyperbole of others saying how big something will be when in fact they are guessing just like you are. Speculators that talk too large are usually the ones that are left holding too many copies of the first appearance of Spider-Gwen and are still trying to hype up a flooded market. This is what separates InvestComics from everyone else, we’ll give you the straight truth. This is why we’re number one.

Which brings us to Amazing Spider-Man #1, Avengers #0, Doctor Strange #1, Contest Of Champions #1, and Invincible Iron Man #1. The Invincible Iron Man #1 and Marvel Super Hero Spectacular #1 are the only two books that hint at new characters appearing in it. Iron Man uses almost 2/3 of the alphabet regarding its variant covers. 1A, 1B, 1C……..The others are no better with a plethora of variants at your disposal.

…..Another relaunch? Really? Yes really. Let’s revisit what InvestComics has explained to speculators over and over and over again. Can/will any of these comics be a decent flip? Probably, but a very short window here. Why? Because everyone will have the majority of these comics in hand already. They don’t need to buy from you. Second, the variants. The variants will be the chase and a chase that most speculators will make their money on. Here’s the thing speculators. Before you spend that $25, $50, $100, $200 on a variant. As we have covered here countless times, what will this number one Spider-Man or Avengers comic bring to the table? Will there be a major character introduction? Will there be a sustainable status quo change to latch on to? If the answer to both of those questions is no, then save your money. You’re essentially buying a glorified Spider-Man or Avengers comic. You’re buying into the hype. Realize this. All of those variants have one key component in common. The inside. If the inside of that comic does not offer anything but a good story (what’s wrong with that really??) then you have a very nice cover you paid too much money for. Will any other speculation sites tell you this? Probably not because the fanboy in them cannot contain themselves. They will eventually fall in line with InvestComics because they all eventually do. They read this column religiously….we know. As part of our disclaimer reads What you read is 100% authentic. Any material you read is 100% original content from InvestComics and does not borrow from any article(s) or comic website(s) for its content. Anything you read  from here on any other site that seems similar probably and most likely originated from here.”

So what do you do with the new Amazing Spider-Man #1 and the Avengers #0 comic? You buy it, you read it, you enjoy it. If it turns out to be a Batman #1 New 52 book, then you’re in luck. If not, you have a new Spidey and Avengers story that will probably kick butt. Be careful of that hype for the variants. The market is inundated with too many of the same guts (insides) of the book. Understand that we’re not trying to marginalize or take away from the greatness of these new number one issues, but the speculators have to be on high alert here. Newsflash from InvestComics; The speculative landscape has and is vastly changing and you must be on top of it.

A side note here. In all of the years InvestComics has delivered the weekly Hot Picks, we cannot remember a worse idea for a theme of variant covers. The cosplay variants are an absolute embarrassment. There are so many fantastic cosplay enthusiast that take their craft serious that Marvel could have went with. Not these ridiculous Halloween costumes on display. Wow, terrible.

There’s an Image Comics release that will be a sold out comic before too long; Axcend #1. A new ongoing series from Shane Davis. With Shane’s fantastic art and mad writing skills, this will be a good book to jump on. The introduction of Axcend! Speaking of sold out Image comic books, check out Brian K Vaughan’s Paper Girls #1 too. Anything Brian touches these days usually means a lot of fans buying it all up. A no doubter to check out. Brian also has his other comic out this week too; We Stand On Guard #4. A great series to follow.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #50 reaches an epic story line conclusion. Count us in! One of the best things about this epic book is the Kevin Eastman/Jack Kirby incentive variant cover. Jack Kirby? How? Well who cares, it’s Jack Kirby.

The meme sensation “Grumpy Cat” will get his/her own comic book from Dynamite Entertainment. Not only will Grumpy Cat #1 feature a Batman type variant, but it will come with at least 8 variants if not more by the time all is said and done. With the millions of adoring fans of the Grumpy Cat meme’s there is no telling what this comic will do as far as sales go. Probably a sell out here. Crazy crazy stuff this comic book world…..

A possible introduction of a new hero happens in Action Comics #45. With Greg Pak writing, this is a good thing. Batman and Robin Eternal #1 will definetly be a book to check out this week. Written by Scott Snyder/James TynionIV and art from Tony Daniel. The series promises to bring some new characters into the Batman/Robin universe and we are all in. The “new” Batman will team up with the Justice League for the first time in Detective Comics #45. Legend Neal Adams does a monsters variant cover for the Green Lantern #45 issue. A new DC/Vertigo book; Survivors Club #1 looks good. Green Arrow Annual #1 is a Halloween issue and there might be an intro of a new villain in it. Pick it up and find out. Telos #1 is on scheduled for release. Does anyone care?

Aquaman, seven series number one issues, two of which were limited series. None of the regular series made it past 77 issues. What does this mean exactly? Well it means that Aquaman was never a character taken very seriously. Always on the receiving end of the joke. Nowadays things are a bit different (many thanks to Geoff Johns), although the character still holds the stigma of being a lame duck in many circles, Warner Brothers will be going all in with a solo movie release. Rumor has it that he’ll first appear in the Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice first, then we’ll see the solo movie a couple of years later. It’s then we’ll see if the world is truly ready for a live action Aquaman movie.

It was writer Geoff Johns that vowed to make Aquaman a cool character. He’s achieved this feat with many naysayers saying it couldn’t be done. Now the transition to film will be the defining moment for the most powerful water character in the entire DC Universe.

Below are some key Aquaman appearances throughout the years. First appearances, number one issues, appearances in other comics, etc. Debuting from 1941, there are plenty of comics to look for here. Plenty of affordable books along the way here too.

Please remember as always here on InvestComics, read the disclaimer. With that said, there will in fact be books that are not on this list. They were probably inadvertently missed. No problem, list your favorite book below or in the comment section in one of our social media outlets. Also remember that the Aquaman movie comes out in 2018, there are no right or wrong answers here.
