A DC character that’s made only a handful of appearances since (8 to be exact, yeah, yeah more than a handful + 3 digits) 2016/2017 will reappear outside of the Deathstroke universe for the first time. This character is named Red Lion. (insert sarcasm here) boy does this dude look familiar. Can’t seem to place it. Maybe the number one movie (Marvel) at the box office right now? Nah, that’s not it. Anyway, The Red Lion is a main adversary of Deathstroke’s and will appear inJustice League #41this Wednesday. Red Lion first appeared inDeathstroke Rebirth #1(2016). Learn some secrets behind the new Damage character inDamage #3as Wonder Woman rings in Damage with her lasso. Supposedly some deep secrets here. Maybe having to do with other characters within the DC Universe? Maybe not, who knows? Either way, definitely looking forward to this. DC delivers the origin of King Rath inAquaman #34. Writer Dan Abnett and artist Mirko Colak. There will be an obvious trending comic this Wednesday. That comic will beWeapon H #1. If you need this article to tell you this, well….you’re probably really new at this. So if you’re new, Weapon H is one of these new breakout characters from the Marvel Universe. Weapon H is a mash-up of the Hulk and Wolverine. Weapon H first appeared inTotally Awesome Hulk #22FIVE months ago (in which we gave fans a heads up on). This first appearance last sold on Ebay for $60 for a raw copy. A raw has sold for upwards of $80 on Ebay. A graded CGC 9.8 sold for a whopping $172. Are we living in the Twilight Zone? So getting back toWeapon H #1. This is the first solo title, second prints will be announced shortly thereafter.

The Cable character is a hot item these days. Marvel will strike while the iron is hot. Cable #155 begins a look at Cable’s past and a possible introduction of a new character to boot. The new creative team of writer Zac Thompson and artist German Peralta bring a new look into this characters past and a start of an important storyline of this character. The “House of Ideas” sometimes really beat an idea to the ground don’t they? Case in point, the Cosmic Ghost Rider seems to be trending (for now), so what does Marvel do? Well, they make everyone a Ghost Rider! Now the not so informed speculators and other places are pushing the idea that this is a fantastic idea (monetarily) and it will be worth millions one day. The main question one should ask themselves before plucking down $40 or $50 or $80 for a first appearance of Cosmic Ghost Rider or a Weapon H or a Red Goblin is, where will this character be in 5 years? A third-rate character? The modern day Venom attraction? A trending sustainable character that a non-comic fan would know its name? At the end of the day, it’s YOUR money, I’m just here offering things to think about, an opinion. Fun story idea though for what Marvel is doing concerning Ghost Rider at the moment. Although a neat idea, Cosmic GR and a team of Ghost Rider heroes, the idea could fade as does the Ghost Rider lure all the time. A quick punch in the gut, everyone goes nuts and then the dust settles, and no one cares. It’s the Ghost Rider way. It’s the trend. Happens all the time. This week Doctor Strange Damnation #3 showcases Thor, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, Black Panther among others as Ghost Rider based characters. Basically, a flaming skull head on top of their regular bodies. Flame on! Wait, wait wrong dude…. Jane Foster will meet her maker this Wednesday in Mighty Thor #705. Marvel is killing Thor. Killing the Jane Foster as Thor Idea. No reason to cry really. She could make an appearance in another relaunch/revamp of the Marvel Universe or if sales slump a bit in the new (resurrected/continued numbered) Thor series. Either way though, for now, THIS Thor is about to bite the dust. Remember how InvestComics kept telling readers to chillnax on the buying of this Thor at a premium price? Well, you could’ve put that money somewhere else. Iron Man Hong Kong Heroes #1 features the introduction of a new ironed suited hero. It also features a new Iron Man suit. Writer Howard Wong and artist Justice Wong. Look for a possible introduction or two in Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #17. Incredible Hulk #714, World War Hulk II with Amadeus Cho. Really? Okay. Many comic shops are still limiting customers to ONE copy of the weekly Avengers storyline “No Surrender”. This week’s Avengers #685 is the continuation of the return of the Immortal Hulk, but if you’re looking for a quick buck or think this comic will be anything worthy of a speculation choice, you’d be hard pressed to prove its worth a year from now, or maybe a month from now.

DC’s New Age Of Heroes continues this week with a new debut; Sideways #1. This particular character, as every single “New Age Hero” from this line, resembles yet another Marvel character. Sideways looks strikingly similar to Spider-Man. NOT saying this comic is DC’s Spider-Man comic and that Derek James will be bitten by a sideways insect, just looking at the surface here. Breathe fanboys, breathe. The lead character is a high schooler though! The DC solicit says “….with that much power comes great liability….”. A New York City backdrop on the cover…hmmm…um okay. The premise (powers) of leaping from dimension to dimension at will creates the excitement that we won’t be sitting in one place too long as a reader, which is always a good thing. Dan DiDio and Justin Jordan write, Kenneth Rocafort pencils. We’re so on board with this comic, so is our 10-year-old YouTube comic book reviewer Jason Katz. New Super-Man And The Justice League Of China #20 will start off a new story line “Seas of Change” and will debut a new character. ‘Hacked” part on in Suicide Squad #35. The villain known as Hack returns. First appeared in Suicide Squad #2 (2016). Things are looking very bleak on the cover of Titans #20. Check out “Titans Apart” part one by Dan Abnett and Paul Pelletier.

Promethea makes her DC Comics Universe debut in Justice League Of America #24 this Wednesday. Formally an America’s Best Comics creation from Alan Moore. It was quite amusing reading all of the fanboy/nerd comments when DC showed off the cover art as it was revealed that Promethea was arriving into the fold of the DCU. Comic book fans could care less as life went on for them, but it was the “others” who were severally distraught over learning of DC’s move here. Well, Alan Moore was probably irked, so the fanboy/nerd had to tag along and act accordingly to try and fit in. Seriously, calm down. It’s DC’s property and they can feel fit to do whatever the heck they want with it. It’s comic books, not the Declaration of Independence. Relax. That all said, if you’re in the market for a good read, check out the original 32 issue series from 1999. Promethea #1 is the first appearance. Last sold on Ebay for about $15. General Thrawn of Star Wars makes his Marvel Universe debut this week in Star Wars Thrawn #1. We think. Maybe he appeared in some other Marvel Star Wars book we’re not aware of. Maybe in the background on some monitor or a cell phone photo, who knows? These speculators are so desperate to be the first to correct us or find that first appearance on a cereal box on some panel, so that’s why we’re leaving the door ajar a bit asking if this is indeed his Marvel Comics debut. Anyway, we can tell you that General Thrawn first appeared in a Star Wars Galaxy Magazine #5 in 1995 (Topps Comics). His first “comic book” appearance came in Star Wars: Heir To The Empire #1 (1995) from Dark Horse Comics. If you feel compelled to not recognize any of that banter as the first appearance, then this book here is the first Marvel Universe appearance. If that really means anything at all really. What really matters though are creators Jody Houser and Luke Ross bringing some great story telling. Ms. Marvel #27, the debut of the Ms. Marvels team? No seriously, take a look. In the “just saying” department, the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl solicits are the most pretentious, annoying, try-to-hard to sell a comic, drub you can read every month. Always a long diatribe, explaining and trying to be quirky. Stop already. Just sell the book without the added nonsense, sheesh. Okay, just saying rant over. Onward we go….

Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after. What a long fun ride its’ been for Robert Kirkman’s Invincible character. Making his cameo in Noble Causes Family Secrets #3 (2002) and then his first full appearance in Invincible #1 (2003). A fifteen-year run is an amazing feat. Kudos to Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley and the Image Comics/Skybound team as Invincible #144 will be the last issue this Wednesday. Now onto the small screen or the big screen, animated or live action, we’ll see. Kick-Ass #1 begins anew once again. Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. are back at the helm to bring readers the mayhem they come to expect. A new Kick-Ass vigilante makes their debut, be sure to check out who it is. Is it someone we may know already or is it someone completely new. Either way, we can’t wait to see and hear Hit-Girl kick some booty! AfterShock Comics next hit book; Cold War #1.
