With the Deadpool 2 movie right around the corner, the Domino character will take ‘the leap’. Oh, not because of the movie really. Although the movie version strikes no resemblance to the original character that appears within the pages of Marvel Comics, co-creator of the Domino character; Rob Liefeld absolutely loves the way the character is depicted on screen. So basically, any fan that feels compelled to complain about the difference of the funny books compared to film is kind of outbid by the total blessing of its creator. Anyway, back to the real reason for bringing this character up in the first place. As said, Domino will take that ‘leap’ into the next class. No longer a B or a C character. She will be bumped up into the A category. One reason for this leap will be writer Gail Simone. She will have this character and the Domino comic series trending in no time. Look for more fans to jump on board as this series progresses. Domino #2 hits this Wednesday with more interest because word got out on how good the first issue was. It trended quite well on the internet and social media. Look for Miss Simone to truly break this character out.

Sticking with the Deadpool talk, he hits a milestone issue this week; The Despicable Deadpool #300. To be completely honest, the solicit for this comic is a bit confusing and vague. No matter though, it’ll pop anyway. Especially that Rob Liefeld variant cover.
More Wolverine hunting this week in the Marvel U; Hunt For Wolverine: The Adamantium Agenda #1. Writer Tom Taylor and artist R.B. Silva.
It’s no secret that Venom has been a highlight within the trending market for years and years. Any speculation regarding Amazing Spider-Man #300 over the last 15 years or so is like recommending getting a charger for your phone. Absurdity and obvious. Like recommending the first appearance of Deadpool. The speculation market is oversaturated with built in obvious choices. An obvious choice this week regarding a ‘trending comic’ will be Venom #1. With the excitement of the new Venom trailer hitting and excitement in general about the character, the new Venom series will command some attention. This series will be payed attention to, not so much for the hype surrounding the character right now, but the creators on the book. Writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman. Indeed a book to check out. Indeed a book that will trend….big.

Trending Pop Culture Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
New Spawn team-up book; Medieval Spawn Witchblade #1. Creator Brian Haberlin all over this one.
Rochelle #1; Antarctic Press. Creators John Crowther and Dell Barras.

Buy, Sell, Hold – New Mutants #87

One comic is chosen to go under the scope. What is the best course? As a speculator, is it worth buying, selling or holding?
Here are the pros and cons, YOU decide.

New Mutants #87 – 1990 – First appearance of Cable & Stryfe
Writer: Louise Simonson
Art: Rob Liefeld & Bob Wiacek
Inker: Bob Wiacek
Colorist: Mike Rockwitz
Cover Art: Rob Liefeld & Todd McFarlane

PROS: The first appearance of Cable. One of the hottest moderns in today’s market. Cable will appear in the second Deadpool film. With Disney buying Fox Studios, does this mean MORE Cable in the future? A CGC Graded 9.8 sold for $490 on February 4, 2018. The cover is a Rob Liefeld/ Todd McFarlane collaboration.

CONS: According to the CGC census, a total of 5,529 are graded a 9.0 or higher. 836 are CGC Signature Series under this umbrella (9.0 or higher) – The entire total CGC amount graded is 6,504. Not including the 27 restored copies – 1014 total Signature Series – This is not considering any of the CBCS graded and witnessed books (no census) – We must be closing in on the 10k mark here, or have we passed it? – Not a difficult book to find in near mint condition at all – The census here is extremely top heavy – Will the Cable character be a one and done with film? – If so, price will bottom out a bit and a $850/$1200+ signed copy will be substantially lower – When the correction hits the market, this may take a hit due to the abundance availability of this comic and its “easy to find” near mint copies.

What do you think? Is this comic a buy, sell or hold?

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 9-24-08

wolorig028_cov.jpg This week has a lot to choose from. No Home runs this week though. There is however a nice homage to my hometown. Back To Brooklyn # 1 is a nice non-description of Brooklyn New York. Gangsters, Samurai’s, Mercenary’s, Halloween and Mutants dominate this great reading week for comics. So kick back and enjoy the Hot Picks as we dive into a week that has great reading promise and No Home Runs.

dd111var.jpgDaredevil # 111  Here’s the question of the day. How do you destroy a great villain or hero’s legacy? The answer is, you replace the XY chromosomes with the XX chromosomes. Okay, you make the ‘boy’ villain/hero a ‘girl’ villain/hero. Time has proven over and over again that this simply does not work. The only reason it might work THIS time around would be that fact that so many of these writers today are vying for that Hollywooddeal they are writing their butts off to make a ‘good story’. That said, Lady Bullseye MIGHT have a shot of being a somebody as opposed to another failed attempt at Marvel switching genders on a character.

skaartales001_cov.jpg

Skaar Son of Hulk Presents: Savage World of Sakaar  Is there any reason to believe that this comic will NOT sell out? Hulk’s son has a dang good track record and it does not seem to be letting up. Skaar is definitely a character that needs your attention. Buy any of the early appearances for now because Skaar will be a mainstay in the Marvel Universe for a long time.

backtobrooklyn_cov01.jpg

Back To Brooklyn # 1   Garth Ennis & Jimmy Palmiotti bring this FANTASY style Punisher type comic book to Brooklyn. Built around violence and strong language, what more would anyone want? A good story we hope. Just because you slap the word ‘Brooklyn‘ on a comic with blood on the cover does not mean it will do well. The content inside better be as good as the hype or Jimmy and Garth have delivered a crapfest. The Brooklynboys will be very angry if this happens.

Others To Watch For……..

samurai001.jpg

Samurai: Legend #1  With Iron Fist making his mark, it’s fitting that Marvel get some of the samurai/martial arts thing going again. With a $5.99 cover price, it might not do as well as they want. Still looks like a promising comic as well as a great read.

deadpool2.jpg

Deadpool # 2  The number one issue sold out almost immediately. Would there be any reason to think that this issue would not do the same? Deadpool is THE Marvel character to watch. InvestComics has been saying this for a year now. And InvestComics will keep saying it!

flshgrdn1v.jpg

Flash Gordon # 1  Everything that is old someday comes back. Flash Gordon is certainly an icon of sorts. New comers to the comics industry Ardden Entertainment give collectors a new take on the old hero. Grab the variant from Graham Crackers. It’s rare, it’s nice and it’ll be wanted once this comic sells out.

ultffultxmen.jpg

Ultimate Fantastic Four/ Ultimate X-Men Annual #1  This team up number one issue might feature a first appearance of a team or someone. Not to sure from the promo run by Marvel. They tend to be a bit vague sometimes. Yes Marvel will do that from time to time. Anyway, the story is leading into bigger things probably. Keep an eye out for this one…..

vincentprice1.jpg

Vincent Price Presents #1& Zombie-Same One Shot  Halloween is zmbiesama.jpgcoming early this year…..again. Check out both of these goodies.
