NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Amazing Spider-Man #529 9.6. There have been some rumors abound that the Iron Spider Armor could make an appearance in the new Spider-Man movie. Tony Stark seems to have a bigger role in the Spidey universe than initially thought (see Captain America: Civil War). Lets jump ahead a little bit here and say that Spider-Man will be a part of the Marvel character heavy Avengers movie when they battle Thanos. There is no way Spidey goes into that fight with a nylon suit. Enter the Iron Spider Armor. Here is a high grade (9.6) FIRST Iron Spider Armor for only $50.96. Fantastic buy here folks.

We’re going to give a heads up to all Vertigo (DC) fans, readers and speculators of the new title; Everafter From The Pages Of Fables #1. Not only will this comic be a tremendous interest to readers, it will also feature some first appearances and an introduction of a new villain. Look for this comic to be a possible sleeper and fly under the radar for a bit until word gets out about how awesome it is. Art by Travis Moore and written by Matthew Struges and Dave Justus.
Supergirl gets another series this Wednesday. For those keeping score at home, this is the seventh volume. Supergirl #1 written by Steve Orlando and art from Brian Ching.
Cyborg Rebirth #1. Written by John Semper Jr. Art by Paul Pelletier.
Bill Sienkiewicz lends his legendary talents to DC Comics this week for the Harley Quinn #3 variant. It’s absolutely disturbing, but beautiful.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.

We’re loving the prostate cancer awareness Marvel Comics is bringing to it’s line on certain covers. Invincible Iron Man #13 variant cover is drawn by Jamal Campbell.
Marvel turns its focus a bit on the new Wasp in All-New All-Different Avengers #14.
We cannot make up our minds about which Daredevil #11 cover kicks more as* this week. Is it the Ron Garney or Alex Maleev cover? Either way, it’s a win win for fans.
Speaking of a win for fans, did you know about the Deadpool & The Mercs For Money #3 variant cover by Rob Liefeld? Yep, check it out on Ebay right HERE for only $49.99 with free shipping! As always, WE are not the Ebay seller here. Please read our disclaimer.
Nothing like a good origin comic to check out. Doctor Strange #11 will reveal the origin of Doctor Strange. The Adam Hughes variant is sweet. Most are selling this variant for $90+. You can get all 3 Doctor Strange #11 variants for only $89.99 right HERE.

When we were in San Diego Comic Con a few weeks back, we saw a stunning Silk cosplay simply standing in an aisle waiting for something or someone, we’re not sure. Whenever we cover a comic show, we always provide the best cosplay we see (pics), not the usual run of the mill cosplay pics. So we said hello and asked if we can take a quick pic for our fans on social media. We asked her handle name so that we would be able to provide a tag in our post. It turns out it was cosplay mega-star Rian Synnth. Check out the SDCC Youtube video posted below, that’s her right on the cover of the video. And while we’re on the topic of covers, Silk #12 features one of those variant cosplay covers Marvel has been doing for a little bit now. Is that Rian Synnth on the cover?! It sure seems like it is. We went from not knowing Rian to taking a pic for our fans, to “maybe” seeing her on the cover of a Marvel Comic. Cool. Oh and by the way, that variant is sold out.

Alters #1 from After-Shock Comics features the first ever transgender superhero. Written by Paul Jenkins, with art from Leila Leiz.
Film director Brian Philipson made a movie called Hardcore Henry. Now he’ll expand on the “Hardcore” series with a prequel comic book; Hardcore Akan #1 (Bliss On Tap).
Aftermath Big Clean #1 (Heavy Metal) is sold out. From creators Kevin Molen (writer/artist) and Matt Molen (writer/artist). Get a copy before the second print sells out and you miss that one too.
Oni Press delivers Nights Dominion #1 this Wednesday. Well Oni Press won’t actually deliver it, but FedEx or whoever makes the deliveries will drop it off. Oni Press has a knack of putting out a great product, their reputation says so. So why not give this a shot?

Image Comics’ new ongoing series Kill or Be Killed #1 looks like a must read title this week. Ed Brubaker knows how to keep a reader interested and he will do so with this ultra-conscious vigilante hero story.
Artist Arthur Adams supplies a Walking Dead variant; Walking Dead #157. A new six part story line starts here.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.

Daredevil Annual #1; Echo makes an appearance. With all of the female heroes/villains getting a lot of attention these days, maybe you’d want to get your hands on a relatively affordable first appearance. Marvel Knight’s Daredevil #9 (1999) features the first appearance of Echo. Written by David Mack, art by Joe Quesada. Sweet book.
Who is Spectro? Find out in Silk #11.
For all of the readers and speculators thinking Marvel actually killed of Namor, well you’ve been duped! Check out Squadron Supreme #10 as the new story line begins; Finding Namor.
We predicted the Mercs for Money crew spinning onto their on series, now maybe the same will happen regarding Deadpool v Gambit #3. This issue dives into a possible background origin story of the Scrambler. So maybe the randomness here detailing the Scrambler’s life will mean something in the future. Maybe not. Either way, Uncanny X-Men #210 (1986) is Scrambler’s first appearance. Chris Claremont/John Romita Jr. Nuff said.
If you’re a collector of Tsum Tsum, you’re in for a treat this week. Marvel Tsum Tsum #1 features your beloved Tsum Tsum! Brace yourselves because a slew of Tsum Tsum variants are headed your way. Spidey, Gwenpool, Daredevil, etc. This might be their first appearance in Marvel Tsum Tsum #1, so enjoy some Tsum Tsum. See what we did there?

With the influx of female characters making their way into the comic book medium these days, with lots of thanks to Disney (Marvel) making it so that the female character shows more of a “character side” as they have never before, we wanted to make sure to recognize some of the keys players. We completely understand that female characters have been around since the inception of comic books (no need for a history lesson, stop typing that email or Facebook post), but there is a movement happening in the past few years to the likes we have never really seen in case you haven’t realized it. Disney put a female lead in its new Star Wars movie, now the next Star Wars movie (Rouge One) will ALSO be a female lead. They know what they’re doing and their comics are following the same guidelines. So as is everyone else in the comic book industry. Much like what always happens with InvestComics and everyone following us or emulating. We’re flattered though. Like Disney.

Listed below are some new comics, some old comics and characters WE like. This will be the first installment of more Female character checklist to come. Of course we will in FACT not have some of your favorites here, but all in due time. Relax. Just breathe. Deep breaths. No emails, no Facebook post, Tweets, Instagram notes. Breathe……breathe.

Iron Fist Checklist

Marvel Premiere #15 (1974) The first appearance of Iron Fist. The holy grail of Iron Fist comics. Writer Roy Thomas, Pencils and cover Gil Kane, and inker Dick Giodano.

When Marvel/Netflix get it together, Iron Fist will be a household name. If for some reason it doesn’t work out with Netflix, look for Marvel to want to hit the big screen instead. The mere fact that the Iron Fist character is mentioned so much these days shows a tremendous amount of interest on Marvel’s (Disney’s) part. So with that, Marvel will start the Kung-Fu entertainment revolution once again either way. This comic also features the first appearances of Ferocia, Harold Meachum, Nuan, Wendell Rand, Heather Rand. Shu-Hu, and Yu-Ti.

The Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #1 (1974) First appearance of Lin Sun, Robert Diamond, and Abraham Brown.

The Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu Special #1 (1974) The second appearance of Iron Fist. This is a magazine form comic.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 8/20/14

IMG_0956InvestComics is at the ComiCONN in Connecticut this weekend. You should really hop on over to the InvestComics Instagram to check out the very cool images from the show. There is some awesome cosplay and so much more. Look for more pics to appear on the actual InvestComics site later. Special thanks goes out to the InvestComics VP Rafael Rosario (@ratchetcitycomics) for holding up the fort at the show.  His north east coverage this year has been outstanding.

Next stop; Baltimore Con and the New York Comic Con. We’re looking forward to those!

Not much in the way of the speculation market this week, but plenty of new reads. Now is a good time to get your inventory in order and look for those back issues you have been putting off. But, we can start fun speculation mayhem if you’d want to be a part of it! Details below……!

[scrollGallery id=366]

The spec market possibly turns your two purchases of $3.50 and $3.99 into the black with Fade Out (2014 Image) #1 and  Delinquents (2014 Valiant) #1. Fade Out #1 is already sold out as I knew it would be. It’s a new story written by the awesome Ed Brubaker told in the noir style genre. Image Comics and Mr. Brubaker are possibly doing some foreshadowing with the release of the Fade Out #1 movie magazine sized variant, which also happens to be sold out. What does this all mean really? Nothing if the story doesn’t hold up or we get delays with the issue releases. Otherwise, there will be a quick spike in the aftermarket with this title. The magazine variant is an odd approach though. Will comic speculators embrace it? We will see. As for Delinquents #1, Valiant may have a home run on their hands here. The wildly popular Quantum and Woody team up with Archer and Armstrong. The comic right now is showing some nice sales and will eventually sell out. However, with that said, the new Valiant comics aren’t really a high priced turnover marketable seller. Maybe this comic will be a part of the scarce few that have made a bump in the aftermarket. A nice $50 variant sits out there. A big risk for the speculator here. The only way to possibly make a turnover on this comic would be to get it signature series graded. It must pull a 9.8 or higher to make any sort of money here. A higher risk than I personally would take. So the Fade Out #1 from Image Comics would be the better buy of the two here by a large margin. Do know this though; Delinquents #1 will be a stellar read.

Enormous from 215 Ink continues to do well. Enormous (2014) Ongoing #3 is sold out. That makes three sell outs in a row.

Little Nemo Return to Slumberland (2014 IDW) #1 looks like a winner from IDW as does Giant Robot Warrior Maintenance Crew (2014) #1 from Cosmic Times.

Here are the rest you should check out at your local comic shop this week; Dark Horse Presents (2014 3rd Series) #1, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014 IDW) Annual #1, Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman (2014) #1, Super Secret Crisis War Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (2014) #1, and Steampunk Battlestar Galactica 1880 (2014 Dynamite) #1.

The_New_Teen_Titans_16….And then there is Multiversity (2014 DC) #1. Legend Grant Morrison is at the helm here, teaming up with the top artist in the industry to bring us “the biggest adventure in DC history”.  While I personally was never a big fan of the convoluted superheroes from different universes within the Multiverse; Superman Earth 23, or Flash Earth 18, or Earth this or that, I can’t help but to peg one character that peeks my interest in this new comic. Captain Carrot. Yes that’s right. Supposedly Captain Carrot will get a makeover as we’d never expect. That to me sounds like fun! Not the bazillion different confusing heroes from all of these various places, but Captain Carrot! Let’s get the buzz going with The New Teen Titans #16 (1982), the first appearance of Captain Carrot written by legend Roy Thomas. Let the world know that InvestComics started the momentum, the demand for The New Teen Titans #16 and that we want more Captain Carrot!

Invest wisely.

As I end each and every week with the words “Carpe Diem”, condolences to the Robin Williams family. Even the ever growing and popular InvestComics Facebook Group page was named “Investing in Comic books 101 (IC Poet Society)”.  You were an obvious influence. You will be missed.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.

Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which includes the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from sales made to thousands of comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world. Additional sales made to online merchants and other specialty stores may be included as well.

Unit and dollar market shares are calculated based upon orders for comic books, graphic novels, and magazines invoiced and shipped to Diamond customers during any given month, which comprises pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable. Please note that comics marked with an asterisk (*) have had their reported quantities reduced due to retailer returnability, and thus may rank lower on the charts than their actual sales would reflect.

The New Titles Count Chart includes all titles that were invoiced by Diamond to retailers for the first time during the month and is not the official solicited title count for the month. Variant edition comic books and graphic novels at the same price point count as a single SKU. Variant edition comic books, lenticular covers, digital combo packs, and graphic novels at different price points count as separate SKUs for each edition.

CAP becomes CAPTAIN AMERICA & BUCKY as of #620, from Brubaker, Andreyko, and Samnee

Marvel Announces New CAPTAIN AMERICA & BUCKY Series
Brubaker, Andreyko and Samnee Join Forces in July

Two Marvel icons fight side-by-side once more as Captain  America becomes Captain America And Bucky #620, co-written by Eisner Award winners Ed Brubaker (Captain America) and Marc Andreyko (Batman: Streets of Gotham) with art by acclaimed illustrator Chris Samnee (Thor: The Mighty Avenger) for only $2.99! From the trenches of Nazi-occupied Europe to the halls of Avengers Tower, Bucky Barnes has seen it all! Now, learn the whole truth about this life spent in the crosshairs – and the secrets of a future primed to explode like a powder keg.

“What was Cap like in the early days, before WWII started? This is a question I’ve wanted to explore for years.  And of course, the whole series ties directly into what’s going on in Captain America and Fear Itself, and sets up future plans for [CLASSIFIED],” said Brubaker. “Getting to work with Marc and Chris, of course, is the cherry on top, since they’re both doing brilliant work here.”

Co-writer Andreyko explained, “Getting to explore unseen pieces of Bucky’s history, from WWII through today, is an absolute blast. Being able to contribute to the Captain America legacy is an honor and a privilege and I can’t wait to see the readers’ reactions!”

There’s a similar thrill for artist Chris Samnee, who revealed, “The scripts I’ve gotten from Ed and Marc so far have been outstanding.  I’m doing everything I can to live up to all the work they’re putting into these scripts and pushing myself to make these pages the absolute best work I can muster. And having Bettie Breitweiser handling colors on these issues really take my stuff to another level. She’s an amazing talent and I couldn’t be happier with the pages I’ve seen from her so far.”

Some heroes are born great and others made great. But a select few must go through hell before they discover what kind of hero they can be. Can Bucky find his place in the Marvel Universe before his past finds him first? Leap into battle with the man who would be the Winter Solder this July when Captain America And Bucky #620 opens a whole new chapter in the history of both Fighting Avengers!

STEVE ROGERS, ED BRUBAKER, & STEVE McNIVEN GEAR UP FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA #1

Marvel Announces Brubaker & McNiven’s CAPTAIN AMERICA #1
New Ongoing Series Begins In July Featuring Marvel’s First Avenger

New York, NY – April 4, 2011— Marvel Entertainment is proud to announce Captain America #1, the first issue of an all new ongoing series premiering in July from two of the comic industry’s most acclaimed creators—writer Ed Brubaker (Death of Captain America) and artist Steve McNiven (Civil War)!

Steve Rogers is back as Captain America but when a mysterious figure from his past returns with the Sentinel of Liberty in his crosshairs, deadly secrets will surface—and send shockwaves through the lives of everyone Steve holds dear. An all-new, high octane Captain America series begins here, just in time for the First Avenger’s highly anticipated feature film from Marvel Studios.

“I gave myself a few challenges for this new #1 – I wanted to do the perfect Cap comic for anyone who walks out of the Cap movie and wants to know what’s next, but it also had to build on everything I’ve done on the book beforehand, too, and feel like the natural next step,” explained Brubaker. “Thank God Brevoort wrangled me Steve McNiven to pull all this off. Steve is at the top of his game, and no one draws action like him. I can’t wait for these issues to start coming out.”

McNiven revealed, “Captain America has been a character I’ve wanted to work on in more depth since Civil War, a real icon of the Marvel Universe. Not only do I get to run with Cap, but Ed Brubaker, a guy who has redefined the character at Marvel, is writing the books and he’s come up with an absolutely brilliant storyline that I can’t wait for folks to read.”

Perfect for readers new and old alike, the extra-sized Captain America #1 kicks off the next big chapter in the life of Steve Rogers, courtesy of superstars Ed Brubaker and Steve McNiven!

Variant Covers rule the land this week. Check out which ones you should be looking for.

superboyfirstappearancepic.gifadventuresofsuperman500firstconnerkentsuperboy.gif

Adventure Comics #1  The return of Conner Kent in his own monthly has DC fans very happy. There is a comic you should be picking up at your local shop while buying the variant cover to Adventure Comics numero uno. Adventures of Superman #500 Platinum Edition. The Reign of Superman storyline was spun off from this comic and also gives us the first look at Conner. The Platinum Edition comic is your best way to go as far as Investing goes. The regular edition 500 issues had a mass production and are not going to
increase in value when Adventure Comics #1 takes off (no pun intended). So
having the Variant Platinum Adventures of Superman issue from 1993 for only $25 (Bargain here fans!) along with an extremely Hot Variant coming out this week, what you end up with is a couple of comics you could sell in a market that will demand these comics at a premium. If you want to maximize your premium for these comics in the aftermarket, CGC them and try to get a grade at a 9.8 or
higher. Hold on to them for at least 6 months to let the Conner Kent market
boil to a ridiculous demand, then sell.
ulimatecomicsspiderman1foilogramvariant.gif
ultimatecomicsavengers1foilogramvariant.gifUltimate Comics Avengers #1 & Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1  A very simple equation here. Get the Variants
to both of the new Ultimate Comics #1 issues. Here’s a key point before I move on. Make sure the Variants you get are in immaculate shape, you will need this if you hold on to these comics too long. If you hold these comics too long, you
will in fact miss the best opportunity to sell at a premium. Once you get your 9.9 grade (hopefully) back…..sell them. Another restart to a highly successful first run means that there will be another restart in about 4 years. The Ultimate
Comics line will be Hot for a little while because of the hype machine known as Marvel and Joe Q. While it’s not a bad thing to hype (they have to make money!) you have to realize, be ahead of the market and sell quickly with these two
variants.

actioncomics880.gifAction Comics #880  Reactron makes an appearance
here. Did you know that The Darling Adventures of Supergirl #9 from 1983 holds
the first appearance of Reactron? No you didn’t? Well here’s a better one, did
you know it’s only a 5 dollar book? Yes this is doable!

Last week InvestComics was a little quick on the trigger with The Marvels Project #1 pick. Companies tend to reschedule books a lot these days so the write up went out and no harm was done (none that I know of). So featured again (below) is the Hot Pick to The Marvels Project #1 coming out ‘this week.’

hot_picks_8-5-09_15.gif
marvelproject1var1.gifmarvelprovar2.gifThe Marvels Project #1
Witness the origin of the Marvel Universe brought to you by the creators who killed Captain America (he’s back now) Steve Epting and Ed Brubaker. Do yourself a favor here and grab the a variant or variants because they will be going for a premium for a while. Get them graded to make an absolute killing in return funds. A 9.8 or higher here will command some nice cash.

Here are some other Cool Comics to check out this coming Wednesday…

The DC solicit reads something like this ‘J. Michael Straczynski dives into the DC Universe at last.’ Well if DC was paying attention they would have realized that this is not the first time he has jumped into the pool. Although DC makes it seem like he hasn’t been here before, the fact is he has. 1987 was
the year J.M. made his debut with the DC Universe, not 2009. A book by the title of Teen Titans Spotlight #13 is not only his first DC work but his first comic book work. Grab this little nugget for only $5. Great buy and hold here.

We’ll focus on only 2 of them. Get Giant Sized Creatures Featuring Werewolf #1 for the first Tigra coming in at only $30. Not a bad price for a comic that is 35 years old. Marvel Team Up #95 is the first Mockingbird which comes in at only $3.

The Marvels Project #1  Witness the origin of
the Marvel Universe brought to you by the creators who killed Captain America
(he’s back now) Steve Epting and Ed Brubaker. Do yourself a favor here and grab a variant or variants because they will be going for a premium for a while. Get them graded to make an absolute killing in return funds. A 9.8 or higher here will command some nice cash.
