Superman #34 is actually Superman #800. So says the Tony Daniel variant. Furthermore, Is this the first appearance of Lois Lane, Female Fury? If so, take a look-see and decide if it’s worth your $3.99 or $4.99 or whatever they will charge for this 800th issue.
Writer Jimmy Palmiotti ushers in a new era of The Jetsons along with artist Pier Brito. Anyone who grew up during the airing of this show during the 1960’s and reruns during the 70’s, knows that it was must watch television. Jetsons #1 will be must read comics. The new style here will have many historians of the old Jetsons show trying to untie their panties from bunching up. Relax, seriously. Just a cartoon and everything is open to anyone’s interpretation. Breathe fanboy, breathe.

A new Neal Adams comic? Deadman #1? Yes, sign us up. The variant comes with a glow in the dark cover as well. The 90’s sure is rearing its ugly head. Don’t mind at all, it’s all in fun!
Spider-Man #234 features the NEW Sinister Six. The team consist of Iron-Spider, Electro, Sandman, Hobgoblin, The Spot and new villain Bombshell. If a collector wanted to purchase any of these first appearances from this new team put together by Iron-Spider, it can be a bit costly. Except for one. Can you guess which character would cost you less than five bucks in some places? This is easy, right? Of course, it’s The Spot. The Spot first appeared in The Spectacular Spider-Man #98 (1985). The Spot looks totally cool on the cover posted here too. Thanks to cover artist Patrick Brown.
InvestComics recommended that collectors get on top of Power Pack #1 (first appearance) a few years back and then a movie announcement hit recently. We pull this off quite often. Boy we are good to our fans! The announcement of a Power Pack movie was well received. Now let’s see how the return of the Power Pack comic book fares. Power Pack #63 from writer Devin Grayson and illustrators Cresta and Marika. June Brigman, the original Power Pack #1 (1984) artist treats fans to a variant Power Pack #63 cover.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

Ms. Marvel #1

Buy Now

IC 100 Club Pick: Ms. Marvel #1 (1977) 8.0. When Marvel Studios hits theaters with their first female lead comic book movie, it’s going to be huge. It will make movie goers and comic fans forget about the Wonder Woman flick very, very fast. How can we say this? Well first and foremost, it’s an opinion. Secondly, Warner Bros. has not yet had an answer for any of the Marvel movies as far as the “level” goes. Will the Wonder Woman movie be good? Probably, but Marvel will out-do DC with their female lead movie Ms. Marvel. It will be set in modern day and appeal radically to the younger and older female audiences as Disney KNOWS how to do. It will happen. Disney KNOWS marketing. So with that confidence stated, this week’s IC 100 Club Pick is Ms. Marvel #1 (1977) graded at a low 8.0 and the low price of $79.99. This low grade will not matter once the movie hits and the popularity of Ms. Marvel is at its peak. This movie will be huge. This first appearance of Carol Danvers as Ms. Marvel will be untouchable.

Before reading ahead, we feel we need to warn you that our articles contain very harsh truths in them. Not vulgar language, just a good solid dose of honesty. They always have, they always will. Want to know the real deal with Harley Sinn? Where she came from, how she became a villain, etc. Well find out in Harley Quinn And Her Gang Of Harley’s #5 this Wednesday! The origin of Harley Sinn.
The premiere Suicide Squad writer returns for a one shot. Suicide Squad War Crimes Special #1 by John Ostrander.
The introduction of a new hero will happen in Future Quest #4. Writer Jeff Parker and artist’s Steve Rude and Aaron Lopresti are bringing it.
Two DC annuals to check out. First annual ever; Gotham Academy Annual #1 from Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher. The origin of the first Bombshell; Batgirl in DC Comics Bombshells Annual #1 this Wednesday.
As Warner Bros. is a bit late to the superhero movie party, DC is a bit late on the variant cover theme too. Justice League Of America #9 has a Batman v Superman Dawn Of Justice Cover. Who cares right? Well not only is the cover bad as*, it’s drawn by (insert sarcasm) some artist named Jim Lee. $3.99 cover price. We’ll take one please.

The “new” female comic character is still a hot commodity. Mostly hot for a minute, then cools off, but then there are ones that catch on. Will the first appearance of the female Electro in Amazing Spider-Man #17 be a hot ticket? We’ll have to wait and see for about a minute…..or maybe longer.
Marvel will go to the well once again regarding their success with Gwenpool and Spider-Gwen. In All-New Wolverine Annual #1 we’ll see Wolvergwen and Spiderine. Newer mash-up’s here but this time with the all-new Wolverine character. Although the Wolvergwen character looks like a first appearance, a “Gwenverine” character popped up on a variant cover back in August of 2015. Old Man Logan #2 gets the dubious distinction of being that first appearance issue. Seems to be much like the first appearance of Gwenpool, cover only. So is Gwenverine and Wolergwen the same character? We don’t make this stuff up, we just report it.
We’re loving the cover to Silver Surfer #6. It’s the 200th overall issue of Surfer comic book issues. The cover shows many awesome past Silver Surfer comic books surrounding him. It’s neat.

Dark Horse Comics offers fans two number one comics written by two fan fav’s of the industry this week. Witchfinder City Of The Dead #1 will be written by Mike Mignola and World Of Tanks #1 will be written by Garth Ennis. World Of Tanks #1 will be based on a game that has an audience of 110 million players. That’s a whole lot of possible built-in audience to reach! Two debut Dark Horse Comics to pick up. That’s some nice debut reading material here.
IDW Publishing’s Jill Thompsons Killer Inside Me #1 is sold out. A lot of buzz surrounding this book. Look for a possible bounce in the aftermarket as readers latch on to this classic story put into comic book form. They’ll be delighted and the bounce may happen.
It looks as though IDW has an answer to DC’s All-Star Batman. It’s called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #1. Various A-list creators will contribute to this new on-going TMNT series. Look for possible introductions in this first issue and as the series progresses. This first issue features a back-up story from Kevin Eastman and Bill Sienkiewicz. Now that’s some serious duo firepower. Count us in on this series and especially this first issue.
Spawn #265 will introduce a new character and will also have Ant make an appearance. Ant was introduced in Ant #1 (2012) from Arcana Studio. HER last known appearance of Ant was in Savage Dragon #180 (2012). Will Erik Larsen bring back Ant for good? Hopefully we see more. We’ll wait and see.

NOTE: This site is BEST VIEWED on Google Chrome.

Throughout the years InvestComics has explained that there is something within the speculative/collectors market that is just as important as the first appearance of a character. A characters second appearance is not only a fun get, but sometimes very affordable. Sometimes not, therein is the chance to make your decision as an investor to jump in or not. We cannot make that decision for you, nor would we. We will simply guide you and the rest is up to you.

….and we implore you, please read or know the disclaimer before reading on. Thank you.

Click the RED links or comic cover to Buy/Bid right from the article. A new window will open, your place will not be lost.

Journey Into Mystery #84 (1962) – Here’s the second Thor appearance. Cover credits; Jack Kirby/Joe Sinnott. Stan Lee writes. Also the first appearance of Jane Foster.

Flash #147 (1964) – With Zoom (Reverse Flash) doing so well on the television series, it would be a nice get right here with his second appearance.

Amazing Spider-Man #38 (1966) – Mary Jane’s second appearance. It also happens to be the last Steve Ditko issue.

Strange Tales #127 (1964) – InvestComics informed readers many years ago about the first appearance of villain Dormammu before the Doctor Strange movie ever came to fruition. Here is the second appearance.

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 (1964) – Here’s another villain InvestComics touched upon as well, but still hasn’t come to light……yet. Check out Mysterio’s second appearance right here. This comic is also the first appearance of the Sinister Six.

New Mutants #88 (1990) – Cable will be hitting the big screen eventually. We all know his first appearance, here’s his second.

Strange Tales #111 (1963) – The Doctor Strange movie will be huge. Once again InvestComics gave readers a heads up way before the movie was ever spoken about, but now we’re letting you know that since the first appearance is out of reach a bit, why not go for a second appearance? Also the first appearance of Baron Mordo and Asbestos Man.

Daredevil #2 (1964) – This comic has TWO second appearances. First; the Daredevil Netflix series is hot hot hot. No telling where they will go with this character. Will there be a reboot movie with the current actor Charlie Cox? It would be a first within the comic book movie industry (modern) for a television superhero actor to make the leap. It seems fitting that Charlie Cox would make that leap to the big screen. Daredevil’s second appearance was in the second issue of his self titled book. A great book to own. This comic also holds the second appearance of Electro! A 4.5 graded on Ebay right now at $149 is a fantastic buy.

Comic Broker Report – August 2013

Many announcements at this year’s SDCC have rocked the comic world, none greater than Zack Synder’s Batman/Superman movie!  No one has any real clue what the premise of the film will be but it was a bit strange to hear one of the more famous lines from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns read out loud at the con!  Over the next year it’s going to be a speculator’s dream as far as what back issues will be worth searching for in relation to the film!

The other major revelation concerns Marvel and the title of Avengers 2: Age of Ultron!  Thankfully it was made clear that the title has nothing to do with the current AOU storyline but it was sad to hear than Hank Pym will not be the inventor of the metallic menace.

This month’s picks:

The Avengers Volume 1  54,55

054Avengers_Vol_1_55

Even if Ultron is J.A.R.V.I.S. or some other incarnation his first appearance  will continue to rise much like Iron Man 55.  These issues are very rare and high grade copies/cgc issues will generate massive sales as each minute passes up until the film’s premiere.

Batman 401 & Detective Comics 608

magpieanarky

Beware the Bat continues to impress as each episode passes.  So far no major villain has appeared.  For fans of the new annimated show who may be wondering where these creeps originate look no further! Magpie first appeared in Batman 401. This issue may not be very tough to find ( other than a high grade newsstand edition )  but her episode gave us a unique character that I personally cannot wait to see more of.  As far as Anarky ( Det. 608 )  his episode was not as impressive as the previous ones but he is slated to be a thorn in Batman’s side for some time so we will have to wait and see.  Both issues can be found easily.

Batman Beyond 18

batman beyond 27 first Nissa

First appearances of characters from future realities are often worth investing in and Nissa/Batgirl Beyond looks to be no different.  Get this one now while it’s still on the shelf!

22 Brides 1 Variant

Painkiller Jane coming to Marvel?  It sure looks that way and if  Gaiman’s Angela can see a rise in back issue value why not Jane?  The variant for issue 1 is tough to find but not impossible.  Buy and hold!

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. 1 ( Gold Key )

43625-7143-51008-1-man-from-uncle

It feels good to recommend a Gold Key comic simply because it gives me a reason to feature one of the best company logos ever!   Today’s young comic readers probably have no idea that this property even exists but when Guy Ritchie’s remake comes out expect available copies to dry up.

The Amazing Spider-Man Annual 1

6261-2189-6837-1-amazing-spider-man-a

Electro looks pretty cool in that teaser and if rumors are true Sony might be setting up Spidey for some serious pain down the road.  Sinister six anyone?

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 11-18-09

Another week, another death, another return and a new creator on a hot book. All this plus more, check out another week of Hot Picks!

adventurecomics4.gifdccomicspresents871stprime_25.gifWell Superboy Prime is back, maybe punching his way back into the DC Universe? DC fans will welcome him with open arms amidst the mass confusion that followed the ‘first punch’. Adventure Comics #4 will be the return issue, will you return? If you’re feeling adventurous these days and you DO return  you could always pick up the first appearance of Prime in DC Comics Presents #87 from 1985 for about the $30 range. With all the story changes and characters dying, returning, revamping in the DC Universe
It’s hard for the collector to get any value from the back issues. Getting a Superboy Prime first appearance won’t break your bank, but it sure does
seem like a long shot as far as the Investment side goes.
There are a couple of more ‘returns’ to speak of this week. In Amazing Spider-Man #612, Electro will be causing some serious problems for our hero in the new storyline Gauntlet. Buying an early first appearance in a amazingspm612.gifamspm9_1stelectro_1964_2500.gifSpider-Man book from 1964 is always a nice thing. Amazing Spider-Man #9, Electro’s first appearance sells for $2600. This is a recommended buy because of how much upside potential it has. Speaking of upside, this next comic shows promise of none, but its fun to point it out! Brave and The Bold #29 comes out with a return of Brother Power The Geek. Yes, who is that? Why do we care? For those of you that do care, check out Brother Power The Geek #1 from way back in 1968 for the first look at this weirdo. This unused character is being pulled from the doldrums why brotherpowerthegeek1_1968_80.gifthebraveandthebold29.gifexactly? Your guess is as good as mine. If you feel like dropping $75 on this first appearance, don’t expect much return in the future. The only saving grace of The Geek coming back here is that Michael Straczynski is writing it. So what would a week be without a life altering event in the DC Universe or as DC put it this week ‘rewriting the History books’. Flash: Rebirth #5 gets the distinct honor this week, so make sure to check it out and get disappointed again. Did I say that out theflashrebirth5.gifdarkavengers11.gifloud? Anyway, one of these days these rewriting history moments will mean something again. So staying on topic here a bit, Dark Avengers #11 promises a death. Will it mean anything? Probably not, but it’s always important to point these things out.

thunderbolts138.gifJeff Parker will be debuting on Thunderbolts #138. He’s the writer of Agents of Atlas and some upcoming titles in January Including Marvel Boy: The Uranian #1 and Fall of The Hulks Red Hulk #1. Jeff Parker will bring his ‘A’ game here according to deadlocke1.gifdrhorrible.gifnola1_2.gifreports. Look for this comic to sell out quickly. There are a few number one issues you should take a look at this week. Nola #1 from Boom Studios!, Dr. Horrible and Dead Locke #1 from Dark Horse. All 3 look promising. Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited comes out with the secret origin of the Black Knight. If you want to see the original Black Knight story, travel back in time to 1955, as Editor Stan Lee of Atlas blackknight1.gifblackknight1_1955_editorstanlee_1300.gifComics brings you Black Knight #1. It’ll cost you about $2600 for this trip so make sure you’re comfy. A sleeper this week comes in the form of a Boomwaltdisneycomicsstories7002.gifwaltdisneycomicsstories700.gifStudios! Comic. Walt Disney Comics & Stories #700 will make its way to the shelf at your local comic shop near you. How did this comic reach #700 already? Anyway, with the recent acquisition of Marvel, Disney will be front and center again. This issue brings in a new Superhero team. When was the last time there was an Introduction in the Disney comic book world? This comic will disappear quickly so buy it before their gone.

Here are the IC Extra’s This week to take a look at this Wednesday……
