NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

We are not responsible for comics not shipped on time and or changing of release dates regarding this article or any article on InvestComics. We report on the comics DUE out the coming week. We have NO control of release dates nor will we change our article to accommodate a change in shipping, release date or cancellation. We also use the phrase “sold out” in our articles on a regular basis. “Sold out” means at the distributor. Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates in purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Avengers #28 (1966) Graded 4.5. This Silver Age beauty is the first appearance of the Collector and Giant-Man becomes Goliath. With legends attached to this book named, Lee, Kirby, Heck, and Giacoia, it would make a great addition to your collection. At a price tag of (only) $79.99 with free shipping. An early Avengers comic, a first appearance and 4 legendary creators…..what is there not to love here?

The Superman American Alien series continues to impress. Check out Superman American Alien #5 coming out this week.
Martian Manhunter #10 will contain the origin of J’onn J’onzz.
Poison Ivy Cycle Of Life And Death #3 cover by Clay Mann. Kudos!
Legends of Tomorrow #1 will have 4 separate stories of various characters from various creators. Firestorm from Conway, Hunter and Pansica. Metamorpho by Lopresti and Banning. Sugar & Spike (all grown up!) from Giffen and Evely. Metal Men from Wein, Scott, and Yildiray. As you can see, some super talents in this book. Fans should be up for a great read!
Both covers, the regular and variant for the Green Arrow #50 issue this Wednesday are awesome. Shane Davis on the regular cover and Aaron Kuder on the Batman V Superman variant.
Astro City #33 will introduce Fix-It Man.

IDW’s 3 Devils #1 from creator Bo Hampton looks good. Bo handles writing and art duties. Also from IDW, Ghostbusters fans will be treated to a new story; Ghostbusters Deviations. Sticking with the franchise stamp, Star Trek #55 will be the first part of a four part story line; Legacy of Spock.
Legend Alex Ross delivers as he does so often on the new Lords of The Jungle #1 cover from Dynamite Entertainment.

Back to Ghostbusters for a sec. The Huck #5 (Image Comics) variant from Rafael Albuquerque will keep to his trend with movie variants. This time with Ghostbusters!
If you haven’t been keeping up with Monstress (Image Comics) from Marjorie Liu, well then you’ve been missing out. Catch Monstress #4 this week and go HERE for all available Monstress books on Ebay.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Infinty Entity #2 has Warlock running into the character In-Betweener. In-Betweener first appeared back in 1975’s Warlock #9. A Jim Starlin creation. Jim Starlin writes and draws that issue. Jim is also writing the Infinity Entity series.
InvestComics is still feeling the bull market with Deadpool And The Mercs For Money. Check out Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #2 and see why we feel this way. Good stuff happening here. All the first appearances of each group member right HERE.
A few things regarding the new All-New Inhumans #5 this week. First, there seems to be an introduction here, the Skyspears. Never heard of them, maybe you have? If not, this will be their first appearance. Second, a very cool Neal Adams variant! And lastly, a Spider-Man guest spot. An all around good comic here. Also good to know, the Marco D’Alfonso Sugar Hill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight Hip Hop cover is sold out.

International Iron Man #1 from Bendis and Maleev. It will be an interesting read because Michael usually takes us readers to places we’ve never gone. Lots of variants to choose from. We dig the Gabriele Dell Otto variant (sold out).
We love, love the regular cover to Scarlet Witch #4 from David Aja. Lovely.
Squadron Supreme #5 features a character being brought back from obscurity. Although featured in a few books late last year, he hasn’t appeared much of anywhere in his 41 year existence. Skull The Slayer makes an appearance this Wednesday. He first appeared in Skull The Slayer #1 in 1975. Written by Marv Wolfman and a cover by Gil Kane/Al Milgrom.

Valiant Entertainment has done it again. They have sold out of a comic and are releasing a second print with the first print on the same day. A&A #1 will have quite the variant of choosing when Wednesday hits, but our fav’s are the Kano and Phil Jimenez covers.

After a bit of a wait, Clandestino #2 (Black Mask) will finally get fans back in the mood.
Rivers of London #1 (Titan Comics) one variant is sold out.

Firestorm #1

IC 100 Club Pick – Firestorm #1 (1978) – Click to Buy Now

This week’s IC 100 Club Pick is Firestorm #1 9.0 (1978). This graded 9.0 is only $75 with free shipping. With Firestorm as popular as he is, this comic is a great buy. Yes the speculative market has calmed down a bit since the character was ultra hot at one time, but now is a perfect time to get back in the market and buy this fantastic first appearance. Who knows, maybe DC’s new “Rebirth” will include Firestorm in his own title (again), but this time they gain momentum on his popular status once again. It really doesn’t matter if nothing happens to be honest, this is a good buy for the first appearance at only 75 bucks…….and free shipping!

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

As InvestComics pointed out last week regarding Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #1. We spoke about the starring cast with Deadpool and it seems as though we were on to something (as usual). This Wednesday’s Deadpool #7 will feature some backup stories pertaining to those exact characters we gave everyone a heads up on! We won’t say told you so…….yet.
It will be an anniversary issue as well. 25 years of Deadpool. That was a quick 25, time is flying by! So what should Disney do to cash in on the monster Deadpool movie coming out next week? Put out a special limited edition Deadpool book? Give fans a hostile takeover on various Marvel covers (that’s ongoing right now actually). How about a price point at $9.99? Yes, this sounds right. Awesome! Granted it’s an “anniversary” issue at 96 pages, but $9.99? Marvel/Disney are some smart suits aren’t they?! Make that money!

A plethora of variants (all starting at $9.99) accompany this issue, but one standout cover already catches our eye. The best part? It’s the regular cover! (Even though we’re looking at $9.99 across the board) Artist Tony Moore lets Wade Wilson have his way with the Walking Dead #1 cover. Very unique cover from Tony, we’re a buy here regardless of the bit*hing we’ve done.

If you’re a regular reader here, you’ll already know about this, but it’s been a little while since we mentioned it to the current speculators/readers. Buy Star Wars comics. There are introductions going on in some books that may seem meaningless now, but if one of these characters ever find their way to the screen or even have their own successful spinoff comic, you’ll be unhappy that you didn’t take our advice. Besides all that, and more importantly, they’re great reads. Check out Darth Vader #16 as this series begins a new story arc.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Learn more about the new villain Espectro in Silk #4. Espectro first appeared in the previous issue.
It looks as though a villain will be getting a makeover in All New All Different Avengers #5. It’s always great when comic companies change the look of one of their characters and then watch the fanboys lose their minds.

Scott Snyder is wrapping up his Batman run and Batman #49 promises some big plot lines about to put a bow on everything.
DC’s Batman Arkham Knight Batgirl And Harley Quinn #1 will reprint Batman Arkham Knight #1: Batgirl Begins (2015) from last year. Apparently DC feels the need to slap Harley Quinn on almost anything these days to get some attention **ahem Deadpool**. Although a lame tactic, DC knows how to get revenue streaming and money is how businesses stay in business. Too bad for anyone that doesn’t understand this. Check out the cover here too, the exact same one as Batman Arkham Knight #1: Batgirl Begins (2015), but with a circle cutout of Harley’s face. Not too sure if THIS particular comic is in fact the giveaway or not DC is talking about in their solicit, but either way it’s the first Arkham Knight Batgirl appearance.

Image Comics’ Descender #10 will introduce a new character named ‘Queen Between.’ For real, we didn’t make that up. Make sure you have your Descender comics in order because Sony pictures has the rights all wrapped up and will release a movie.

More great indie’s to pick up this Wednesday……
Badger #1 from Devils Due Publishing. This character had it firing on some cylinders a bit back in the 80’s. Badger #1 (1983) was from a company called Capital Comics. They went out of business and First Comics then picked up the series. Lasting 70 issues and then an array of restarts from different outlets thereafter. The number one issue from 1983 on Ebay is mega cheap. A fantastic series back in the day.

Each week InvestComics will bring readers a few comics that have been long since forgotten. There is no redeeming value what so ever, but great reading value here. And that in itself is the best value any collector could get out of comics. So take a read about some of these once hot books and not so hot books back in the day. Happy hunting!

Click on the RED links or comic cover to buy/bid on Ebay right now

Zot #1 (1984) – This series was a popular one back in the 80’s. It’s a Scott McCloud creation. It was from Eclipse Comics, which put out some great comics. Zot lasted about 40 issues or so. The first issue is a scarce get.

Jack of Hearts #1 (1984) – One of the best D level Marvel characters ever. Back in 1984, this limited series hit with little fanfare, but was still a great read. Writer Bill Mantlo brought Jack of Hearts to a new level here. So much so (insert sarcasm here) that Jack of Hearts went on to appear about 10 more times in various comics in the next 7 years. Jack first appeared in The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #22 (Cameo). His first full appearance is in the next issue; The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #23. Here’s a cool thing here. The creator of Jack of Hearts (Bill Mantlo) teamed with the great Keith Giffen on the cameo issue, then teamed with Legend Gil Kane for the first full appearance. That’s an impressive cameo and first right? Oh Jack of Hearts where art thou?

Six From Sirius #1 (1984) – An amazingly fun four part space epic from Marvel’s imprint Epic Comics. Writen by Doug Moench and pencils by Paul Gulacy. The series did well and spawned another limited series a year later. Rumors had this coming to the big screen a few times, but who knows if that will ever happen. A great story here nonetheless.

Vigilante #1 (1983) – Boy was this a great comic back in the 80’s. With Marvel’s Punisher character gaining more popularity, DC gave fans Vigilante and it was spectacularly fun. Brought to you by the always reliable great storyteller Marv Wolman and art by Keith Pollard. Vigilante’s first appearance was in New Teen Titans Annual #2 (Adrian Chase). The series went on to last only 50 issues, but what a fantastic action packed comic book run it was. Alan Moore and Gil Kane were part of this great series. Vigilante #50 was a controversial issue because Vigilante took his own life, thus ending the series of course. A scarce series ending issue. Low print run.

The Badger #1 (1983) – Speaking of fun action packed comics, The Badger was just that. Capital Comics had a few comics that are worth looks, this was one of them. They went out of business and Badger moved on to First Comics as of issue #5. Writer Mike Baron at the helm here. A great independent title that lasted 70 issues.

Blue Devil #1 (1984) – Here is a DC rated D character that first appeared in The Fury of Firestorm #24. An engaging character that never really caught on with many, but did have a following. The series went on to last 31 issues, but Blue Devil has appeared throughout the DC Universe on a regular basis despite the non demand for him thereafter. He recently showed up in one of the InvestComics Hot Picks (#369) Justice League #40. And this book is semi-hot right not. Not because of Blue Devil.

Jemm Son of Saturn #1 (1984) – Here is the first appearance of this character in a 12 issue limited series. Jemm goes on to make brief appearances, but never takes on a leadership role. Another D level character here. An interesting limited series featuring Superman in issues 3-6. Gene Colon pencils. Jemm also appears in the recent Justice League #40.

Some quick reminders from InvestComics coming up. Reminders on how to be a true modern speculator. InvestComics has covered this area quite a few times over the years, but a refresher course is always helpful isn’t it?!

Fantastic_Four_Vol_1_52 Gwen_Stacy_1_InvestComics New_Teen_Titans_Vol_1_2 Iron_Man_Vol_1_55

The Spider-Gwen craze will hit its pinnacle pitch this Wednesday. Well maybe not it’s monetary/speculative peak, but the craze will be at it’s all time high. Spider-Gwen #1 will be released with a ridiculous amount of variant covers. Not Star Wars #1 ridiculous, but ridiculous enough. The variant cover chase has become a huge fad and any true speculator buying them should be doing so for one reason. To sell it. Sell it sooner rather than later. This site has been saying for years that if you are a true modern comic book speculator that you do not fall in love with your comics. Preferably your moderns. Fall in love with the ones you enjoy reading or you just dig for your own reasons, but don’t fall in love with that Edge of Spider-Verse #2 Greg Land variant 9.8 graded that recently sold for $849. There is no way in the comic God’s creation that comic will be $849 one year from now. Do you honestly think this comic has more staying power than a 7.0 Thanos first appearance? A 6.5 Black Panther first appearance? A 9.8 Deathstroke first appearance? All of these books just mentioned, in those grades are cheaper than the first appearance of Spider-Gwen on Ebay right now. Again. Do you honestly think Spider-Gwen can hold a mantle to any of these characters? The realist will say no. The fanboy……well that’s a different story. The point here really is to sell your modern books when they reach stratosphere status as EOSV #2 has done. If you bought the comic for cover price and could make $800+ on it, sell it now. You can get a bunch of first appearance Deathstroke’s with your $800. Any true speculator in their right mind will buy a raw New Teen Titans #2 NM for $120 and hold onto that book. Deathstroke has staying power and has earned the right to command that type of money. Greed and bad speculation right now is driving the 9.8 first Spider-Gwen close to $900. It’s absurd to pay that type of money on a modern book that is only a few months old. Are there some modern books that are worth spending a little bit of money on and holding onto it? Sure there are, but no one is going to just “give” you a New Mutants #98 for $50 or $100. That’s a high priced modern that has too many copies available out there. Not saying it’s not worth the asking price, but you ever see that showoff on Facebook that is displaying 8 graded/signed copies of Deadpool’s first? Yes we all have and guess what? It’s not the same person showing them off. Too accessible for such a high priced book. This spells for a bit of a collapse later on for a book like that. “Well Jay isn’t this a speculation site?” Well yes it is, but it’s also a site that will always inform you of a bad deal too. We’re not salesmen here. We tell it like it is. Be smart investors, don’t think any variant or high priced modern that sells for an absorbent amount of money today will sell for the same thing 365 days from now. I almost guarantee it won’t in most cases. Star Wars #1 variants….you think those variants will be the same price one year from now? Simply answer, no. The first rule of the InvestComics speculator 101 is not to fall in love with the modern book you bought to flip. Holding onto it too long will put you in the red. Many years of Wall Street experience has showed me how clients lose a lot of money because they hold and hold and hold and hold. I cannot stress enough to regular readers of this column (which you know already) and new readers (which will learn now), when you have a chance to make that profit. Take it. Maybe the market will go higher after you sell, but you know something? It’s not your commodity to sell anymore, you don’t own it, stop following it. Move on to something else. If the market collapses after you sell? Tell yourself “good job”and move along. Too much self rewarding will catch up with you. These are some rules to follow. Enjoy what you do. Never showboat, never look back, never look too far ahead, look to the immediate future and determine what is the right time to sell or buy.

The new Deathstroke series is kicking all sorts of as* lately. Tony Daniel continues to pull double duty as writer and artist. Deathstroke #5 will have the biggest fight the New 52 has seen. Deathstroke vs Batman with Harley Quinn caught in the middle of it. Awesome stuff here.

Fantastic Four #643 will feature the return of Sleepwalker. Seems he’s a big deal in the back issue market these days! Sleepwalker has appeared sporadically throughout the years within the Marvel Universe. At one time disappearing off the Marvel radar for 9 years without appearing in a book. Marvel didn’t deem him very important at one time. Things are about to change a little bit though. Sleepwalker last appeared in Avenging Spider-Man #19 (2013) and 3 years prior to that in 2010. So coming up in this weeks Fantastic Four #643 will be his welcome back party, although he did appear in the previous issue. However, this issue he appears on the cover. It seems Sleepwalker will play a vital role in the new Marvel Universe coming up. His first appearance is in Sleepwalker #1 (1991). His first team-up with Spidey occurred only a few issues later in Sleepwalker #5 (1991). What a fantastic Bert Blevins cover to boot!

Big changes for the Marvel Universe will begin in New Avengers #30. A prelude to the Secret Wars. A must get for fans waiting for that epic adventure to begin.

It seems we’re not quite done with Spider-Verse. Check out Amazing Spider-Man #15 to witness the repercussions of what took place in the Spider-Verse saga.

The secret origin of Teen Abomination will take place in Superior Iron Man #5. Teen Abomination first appeared 4 issues prior in Superior Iron Man #1.

Endgame part 5; Batman #39. The next to last issue of this great story line. Check out the backup story as the prisoners learn the truth about the Joker. A ridiculously unbelievable cover by Greg Capullo here.

WWE fans have a Marvel comic to look forward to this Wednesday. Well let’s correct that, UFC fans have a Marvel comic to look forward to this Wednesday. CM Punk will write a Thor story in Thor Annual #1 along with art from Rob Guillory (Chew). For those of you who don’t know, CM Punk “was”a very big WWE star (according to both of my younger boys) and I know him as a dude that is leaving WWE to fight for real in the UFC. Fun times for UFC fans! Anyway, this is CM Punks first comic book work. A backup just in case he cannot fight for real? Just kidding CM, go get em!

King Prince Valiant #1 from Dynamite Entertainment will have not one, not two, but three Rob Liefeld variants. Liefeld fans rejoice!

D4VE #1 (IDW) will feature a Fiona Staples cover. IDW comics do not usually sustain aftermarket status, but this Fiona Staples gal, she’s got skill and will be killing it for years to come. Get this interesting comic because the story looks like a good one and it’s a cool Fiona cover.

Mister_X_1984_InvestComics Mister_X_2015_InvestComicsWhen Mister X #1 came out in 1984 from Vortex Comics, it was a hot comic. Fast forward to 2015 and we get Mister X Razed #1 from Dark Horse Comics. Incidentally, the 1984 number one issue was Mr. X’s first appearance.

IDW will try a spinoff series from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles books. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutanimals #1 will follow an oddball cast of 5. The Mutanimals first appeared sporadically in several TMNT comics, but they did manage to get off their own series back in 1991’s Mighty Mutanimals #1 (Archie Comics). The new series will be a fun read, check it out.

Firestorm is a hot commodity on the Flash show right now. That dude is total bad as*! His back issue market is moving just a tad as Firestorm begins his popularity role once again with the fans. So with that said, Secret Origins #10 on Wednesday has Firestorm’s secret origin by Dan Jurgens! Only ONE copy of this comic available on Ebay right now. Better grab it if you want it.

They’re Not Like Us #3 from Image Comics will continue its great storytelling and good sales.

Speaking of cool variants to check out, look at the photo variant available for Orphan Black #1. Great job by IDW here. And Archie Comics makes their move into the serious superhero fray with Black Hood #1. This comic is accompanied by a few variants. Nice ones too.

Comic Broker Report – A CHRISTMAS QUICKIE

I’m too busy buying comics this month to really  hit you with any more goodies than what I have here.  Enjoy the holidays comic collectors!

Finally S.P.E.C.T.R.E. and it’s famous leader are returning to the silver screen!  It’s odd but S.P.E.C.T.R.E. didn’t appear in comic form until this TPB which collects newspaper comics of Bond and his villainous foes!

Firestorm appears on The CW’s Flash and his comics start to move.  Here is Firestorm’s first Flash cover and first appearance within a Flash comic.

Could this be the first appearance of Lark?  Snyder won’t say but I am betting on yes.  Grab this rare printing of Duke Thomas’s first!

It seems like every month I find a GOTG key I completely overlooked.  Even though the Broker had a limited roll in the Marvel film this is his first appearance.

Daisy Johnson is all the rage.  With copies of Secret War 2 selling well on Ebay collectors should start to look for other keys featuring Quake.  She gets her handle here.

The Titans show has been changed to The Outsiders?!  Well not quite.  Another network may have been forced to change it’s title due to the upcoming DC TV show. Issue one on the acclaimed Winick series , the Outsiders was heavily printed but the real key here is this mini which led directly into the new Outsiders and Titans series!

Any comic that sheds light on the origin of the world’s oldest mutant should jump in price.  In this case we get a glimpse into Apocalypse’s quest for power.  It’s a small tidbit but key to understanding the goals of a powerful mutant.

New Mutants 25 ( First David Haller/Legion ) New Mutants #26 ( first on cover )

Bringing Apocalypse into the cinematic universe is a smart move.  Leading the next film into the AOA storyline would be wise too.   Sony like to adapt stories from the comics so Prof X’s son could be used and that means a whole host of comics will heat up on the back issue market.

X-Factor 23 ( first Archangel )

X-Factor-23

Everyone should have a copy of X-Factor 24. Simonson’s cover is still impressive all these years later and hey it’s the first appearance of Warren as Archangel right?  Nope.  He appeared in issue 23, in full and wasn’t named for many issues later.  This scenario reminds me of New Mutants 86/87.  Cable appears at the end of issue 86 but because of the iconic cover for issue 87 the actual first appearance isn’t noted.

X-Men 95 ( Identity of Death Revealed )

729465

At this point we do not know who the Horsemen will be.  I would like to see the original horsemen used but Fox likes to tweak the stories making Wolverine the central character.  If the do use him as Death I would want to own this one.

Dark Beast replaces Beast.  I remember a few characters who became quite popular during the AOA run.  Dark Beast was one of them.

This one is super rare and could be the first appearance of the AOA Blink and Dark Beast.  I am working to confirm the date of release on this but if you collect AOA related comics you should enjoy the hunt on this one.  It’s not going to be easy.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 9-28-11 DC Comics Relaunch Special Part 4 (Final)

Down the stretch they come…..DC’s Relaunch will be officially over this week. What a crazy 4 weeks it has been. DC hit a home run with this campaign, and NOW the hard part is coming up for them. Will they be able to sustain the interest of the comic book world with issue number 2, 3, 4, and so forth.

So without further ado, let’s get started with the final week of DC’s new look.

There are several comics that have been covered already in the past few weeks, let’s get them out of the way.

Aquaman #1 – 1st appearance More Fun Comics #73. Click HERE to Week 1 for details.

Batman The Dark Knight #1 – 1st appearance Detective Comics #27. Click HERE to Week 3 for details.

Superman #1 – 1st appearance Action Comics #1. Click HERE to Week 1 for details.

Justice League Dark #1 – 1st appearance of Deadman. Click HERE to Week 3 for details.

Flash #1 & The Savage Hawkman #1 – Let’s all be honest here, the only reason Flash is cool equates to 2 words. Geoff Johns. Without him, Green Lantern wouldn’t be cool, Flash wouldn’t be cool, and Aquaman wouldn’t be cool. Yea that’s right Aquaman. Look for the water guy to be Geoff’s next big conquest. But this isn’t about the Aqua, this is about the Flash. Flash’s first appearance goes for a big payday in around the 160k mark in Flash Comics #1 (1940). Incidentally, this comic also has the first appearance of Johnny Thunder AND Hawkman. So looking at 160k for “2” very nice 1st appearances seems like a bargain at the moment.

Blackhawks #1 – Although this comic from Costa/Nolan feels like it’s going to be a fun book; it’s not a book many are dying to get their hands on. This can all change of course in a matter of a weeks’ notice, but not a comic that will fly off the shelves. The same holds true for the first appearance of Blackhawk. No much demand here, but a fine book nonetheless. Coming in at $14,000 is Military Comics #1 (1941). You want one of the beauties of this comic? It comes with legend Will Eisner all over it. Nuff said.

Teen Titans #1 – Here is the comic book world’s favorite teen team in a number one issue…..again. Maybe creators Lobdell/Booth will bring a total different flavor and blow everyone away. Let’s hope. The Brave and The Bold #54 (1960) has the first look at our teenage heroes. At only $860, this comic feels like it’s flying under the radar a bit.

All Star Western #1 – Are fans ready for a full out western comic? With Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray attached to this book, a resounding HELL’S YEA! All Star Western Comics made their debut with DC’s All Star line ending with issue #57 and becoming All Star Western #58 (1951), a $600 book with an awesome Gil Kane cover. Nuff said, again.

Justice League Dark #1 – Lots of characters to check out in this one. Let’s start with Deadman. Find his deal in Hot Picks Part 3. John Constantine’s 1st in Saga of the Swamp Thing #37 (1985) $30. Zatanna first appeared in Hawkman #4 (1964) $400. Madame Xanadu’s first calling was in Doorway to Nightmare #1 (1978) $16. And Shade the Changing Man #1 (1977) debuted from his creator Steve Ditko. The bargain of the bunch at only $16.

The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #1 – Okay so we have a plural in the title which means we have 2 to cover here. Jason Rusch – Firestorm #1 (2004) (probably find this comic in the 1 dollar bins at your local comic shop or comic show), and Ronnie Raymond – Firestorm #1 (1978) from George Perez for $12?? Yes getting the latter would be a very wise move. Jason and Ronnie began their mancrush in Blackest Night #3 (2009). Get this comic at cover price or check that dollar bin again.

Also coming from DC this week, a couple of try out books in Voodoo #1, I, Vampire #1 and a mainstay in Green Lantern New Guardians #1.

And there you have it. 4 weeks of DC goodness from DC and InvestComics! Check out by clicking Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3 for the entire run on InvestComics.

Okay Marvel…….your move.

See you all next week. Invest wisely

The Female Hero on the Big Screen

Hollywood has been missing the boat on an entire genre.

Where are all the women at???

(Originally published on April 1, 2008)

Hollywood seems to have either a discrimination suit waiting for them or they simply think that females could not draw the bucks at the theaters. We’ll take the latter. The track record unfortunately speaks for itself. Catwoman was an absolute disaster, Elektra was very surface driven with no character development, Supergirl is a cult favorite that fell flat on its face and do we really need to say anything about BarbWire?

InvestComics is about to give everyone a heads up. Sit back, relax and read on…..
Most comic movies coming out today are entertaining and are commanding fanboy’s attention. While the majority of the movies are good, some of them just completely miss. Directors are learning as they go along what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to putting those comic book  panels on the screen. We as fans get to either suffer or enjoy the end products. More often than not (lately) the comic movies are getting better. So if the scripts, special effects and commitments are getting better, why no big budget female heroes in their own solo film? Why is it that we as fans do not get our favorite females heroes (or villains) in solo movies?
The lists of possible female heroes/villains are endless as are the males and teams. Not everyone can agree on the lady they’d like to see, but you do have the usual suspects; Wonder Woman, Power Girl and Supergirl (hmmm…..DC rules this department). While these would make great films today, it’s just a wee bit difficult to ask our collectors to get any of the first appearances because of the price tag and no buzz, then again this would be the perfect time to get these books! So if you can afford these comics, without a doubt get them! It’ll cost a small fortune, but a very healthy BUY.
So lets have some fun and look at some possible females to take command of the silver screen. We’ll list the first appearances and the price tag attached to them. While some might be a bit high, all we can say is that when Hollywood finally realizes that there is another gender out there that does exist (given the right script) and backing, the female hero will be HUGE. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
InvestComics has compiled a very short list of some of YOUR request and our picks. These are some of the ladies you need to be looking out for before Hollywood wises up a bit.
It took Hollywood 70 years to realize that comic books can make for huge profits on the big screen if done right. We hope it won’t take another 70 to realize you have some awesome female characters that need screen time too.
