The contacts and exposure associated with this project will be immense.”

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 1/29/14

Before jumping in, InvestComics Publications will be releasing The Dawning #3 this week. Issue numbers 1 & 2 are still available to order. You will be able to order issues 1 & 2 on the same page as number 3 when the the issue becomes available on InvestComics. So look for the release on the InvestComics website and the IC social media as well.

Speculators will find a very short week regarding their Hot Picks, but for every short week there is a big one around the corner. With a week like this it’s always good to catch up on some back issues or fillers for your collection.

Knights_of_Pendragon_ExcaliburThe UK Marvel Universe is making its move. Like I said in a previous Hot Picks article, Marvel/Disney is essentially feeling out the UK market to see if it’s worth exploring further (cinema). Of course this is complete speculation, but do know that Disney never does anything for the sake of just “doing it”. I personally think it will happen. Captain Britain, Union Jack or somebody will get the nod eventually to appear in a movie or cartoon down the road. This weeks UK Marvel addition to the shelf will be Revolutionary War Knights Of Pendragon #1, with Union Jack and Dai Thomas getting their names in the solicit spotlight. And their first appearances pan out like this; Union Jack in Invaders #7 (1976) and Dai Thomas in Marvel Preview #3 (1975). The Invaders #5 is without a shadow of a doubt the book to own here. Not only do you get a first appearance in a Roy Thomas story, but a Jack “King” Kirby cover? Yes indeed, a comic to buy and hold onto once the UK Marvel Universe hits the scene in a big way someday. The Knights of Pendragon team first appeared in the Excalibur one shot: Mojo Mayhem (1989) as the Weird Happenings Organization. They then appeared in their own self titled comic; Knights of Pendragon #1 (1990) which lasted only 18 issues.

Oh yes, have I mentioned that the Revolutionary War Knights Of Pendragon #1 is basically sold out? Something might be brewing in the UK Marvel world, and as always you heard it here first!

[scrollGallery id=332]

Sticking on topic with our friends overseas, UK’s biggest vigilante hero ever gets a new (sold out) release this week: Dredd Underbelly Movie Sequel (2014) #0. If you don’t own Dredd’s first appearance in 2000 AD #2 (1977), you should. Judge Dredd is the UK’s Spider-Man/Superman. He’s their biggest character ever. Good luck getting a near mint copy of this newspaper print though.

Marvel’s Miracleman will continue to do well with the release of Miracleman (2014) #2 this week. It’s sold out on all levels, but be wary here. Do not get caught up in the vortex, you will lose money on this if you’re not a keen speculator. While Miracleman is a great character, he will not sustain his ability in the aftermarket. The old Eclipse Comics and comics before that will hold up, not the new issues. That said, there is money to made in the current market still. Check out the Alan Davis Miracleman #2 sketch variant to maximize your dollar here. It’s a $60 variant, but signed and graded (9.8 or higher) will get you a nice payback.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #11.1 will present the first meeting between The Guardians and the X-Men. Very cool. A $60 Dale Keown sketch variant is even cooler! You may want to get this signed and graded, then go into a hold pattern the closer the movie gets.

A few number one sold out comics to check out this week; Furious (2014 Dark Horse) #1 looks like an all out, very cool super-hero comic brought to you by Mice Templar writer Bryan J.L. Glass. Bravest Warriors (2012) Annual #1 and Adventure Time Special (2014) #1 finish out the week.

If you like the weekly picks here and you have done well in your aftermarket selling, don’t be shy to hit the donate button below! It helps the upkeep of things around here. Thanks for your contribution!

See you next week, invest wisely.

Carpe Diem.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks

There are things coming that will simply blow away the InvestComics faithful and new users alike.

Teen Titans #44 (1)Teen Titans #44 (2)InvestComics Publications also began this year. A huge undertaking with the website and other media demanding the attention it does. No worries though, the Invest Pub will continue to crank out books in the coming year. Also be prepared for something very special coming in October 2014 from the house of leaders; InvestComics Publications.

All in all, 2014 is shaping up to be a very big year for InvestComics. With lots of changes, new look, new direction, and so much more…….can’t wait! 2014 here we come…..

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 1/1/13

DC Vertigo will have a huge hit on their hands this week. Be sure to be on top of Dead Boy Detectives (2013) #1. This Sandman spin off will have the loyalist flocking to the shelves for this one. Not only will the Sandman faithful be a part of the sellout here, but the curious readers and collectors. The Cliff Chiang variant is already sold out and the regular addition is probably on its way to a second print. Want to get in on the ground floor with this hit book? How about looking for a Sandman #25 from 1991. Some dude named Neil Gaiman was on the book at the time, but this comic holds the first appearance of Dead Boy Detectives. So…….what are you waiting for?

[scrollGallery id=327]

Batman The Dark Knight (2011 2nd Series) #26 will be a (mostly) silent book. No reading required here, just lots of pictures. Think of this as the Batman Playboy issue. Although not a new inventive idea by any means, there have been comics with no words in them. In recent history however, one comic seems to stand out above the rest. In 1984 (wait this is 29 years ago! Recent history??) writer Larry Hama had the comic book hobby enthusiast pining for the release of G.I. Joe The Real American Hero each month. With issue number 21 THE silent issue hit. Not only was it a big commercial success, but the comic also featured the first appearance of Storm Shadow. This particular book commands some nice bucks as a graded 9.8 or even a 9.6. Will this silent (almost silent) Batman comic ever be a collectors item? Maybe, maybe not who knows? But it sure is fun reminiscing about that awesome G.I. Joe comic!

If you’re a frequent flyer around here you will know that InvestComics loves covering the variants. This week there will be THE mother of all variants. A $300 Superman Unchained (2013 DC) #5 Jim Lee incentive sketch cover. This beauty falls in the category of; if you got it, spend it because you’ll make your money back three times easily if the comic is graded a 9.8 and signed by Jim Lee. Can the same be said for the very attractive (and sold out!) Twilight Zone (2014 Dynamite) #1? The variants are fetching $100 (25 exist), $75 (50 exist), and $20. Follow the same guidelines as the aforementioned when you do acquire the $100 comic. But of course get the signature of J. Michael Straczynski on this one! So wait a sec here, a 25 copy variant on a sold out comic across the board, signed by J. Michael Straczynski, and a 9.8 grade? Look to triple or quadruple your take back here. This will actually be as big as the Jim Lee Variant as far as aftermarket percentage goes.

There are some other sold out variants to check out this week; like Legenderry A Steampunk Adventure (2014) #1, Revelations (2014) #1, and Lil Ernie (2014) #1.

Dark Horse Comics brings back an old 1940’s hero in Captain Midnight 1 For $1 (2014) #1. This $1 comic will reintroduce Captain Midnight to the modern day. It’s almost sold out, and rightly so! For a buck? If you’re in the market for a Golden Age book, you can check out the first appearance of Cap Midnight in The Funnies #57 (1941). A couple of sold out number one issues to keep an eye on for on new comic book day; From the amazing Michael Linsner comes Sin Boldly (2013 Image) #1, and from Dark Horse Juice Squeezers (2014 Dark Horse) #1.

There are two number one comics coming that are running at a very slow pace out of the gate sales wise. Bad Blood (2013) #1 and Baltimore Chapel of Bones (2013) #1. Maybe they’ll pick up….

And finally, a couple of hot comics with new creators on board to check out. Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #10 features the awesome artistry of Kevin Maguire and Aquaman (2011 5th Series) #26 features new writer Jeff Parker.

Invest wisely,

Jay Katz

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 12/11/13

Just a couple of weeks ago, InvestComics were making a statement on how important the Marvel Cosmic Universe will be in a very short while. Actually, InvestComics was reiterating what we have been saying for 7 years now. The particular comic and character we were speaking of was Nova. This week Nova comes into the fold once again. Nova (2013 5th Series) #11 promises to give readers of the Cosmic likeness a very very big surprise in this issue. Not sure what it is, even if I did know, I wouldn’t spoil it. The Marvel Cosmic Universe will have the Marvel U feel the effects, so buckle in tight fans. This is the beginning of what InvestComics has warned you about for years. The Marvel Cosmic Universe is about to take center stage. You best be on top of your Cosmic game.

[scrollGallery id=323]

Uncanny X-Men (2013 3rd Series) #15 will be an Inhumanity tie in with a “new comer” on board. The name is Kris Anka. One of the earliest works of this fine artist can be found in the Image graphic novel PopGun (2007). His earliest comic work came in Guarding the Globe #6 (Image Comics 2011).

Staying on topic with new creators in new places, check out Marvel Knights Hulk (2013) #1 with writer Joe Keatinge and artist Piotr Kowalski. If you are in the market for first works of newer creators, InvestComics can help you out with this one. Joe Keatinge’s first professional work as a colorists came in Masters of the Universe #4 (MVCreations 2004). His first writing duties came in Image Comics’ Ant #8 (2006). As for artist Piotr Kowalski; his first creative output came in his native country Poland in a book by the name Wiat Komiksu #4 (Egmont Polska 1998). His first American stint came in 2011 with Boom Studios’ Malignant Man #1 (2011). So not only do you get a great read with MKH #1 this week, but you get the inside scoop with the creators too from InvestComics. Mighty Avengers (2013) #4 Inhumanity tie in brings readers the New Ronin. The original Ronin first appeared in New Avengers #11 (2005) with that beauty of a David Finch cover. Huntress will be trailing a new villain in Worlds Finest (2012 3rd Series) #18. Check out who that will be. Looks like Owlman has some plans for Ultraman this week in Justice League (2011) #25. In the “in case you missed it department”, Justice League of America #29 (1964) gives us the first ever Ultraman. Doc Savage will get another crack at his own book this week in Doc Savage (2013 Dynamite) #1. The Doc may be appearing on the big screen as rumors do swirl all the time. Will it ever happen? If it does, look for a quick bump and then a quick flat line in his first appearance; Doc Savage magazine #1 (1933).

Comedy break; Two very funny solicits hit this week that have to make the reader/collector smile. First there was Superman Wonder Woman (2013) #3. The verbiage here reads “the ending of this comic is so shocking that it could mean the end of Superman and Wonder Woman together.” Really??! Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries may trump these two? We’re only three issues in DC please don’t threaten us with this already. Stop it, please. Too funny. Then you have Wolverine (2013 4th Series) #12. The verbiage reads like this “…the storyline the will change Wolverine as we know him forever!” Really??! Okay.

Now that we had our laugh, let’s get back to some other comics to check out this week. Three must get number one comics this week are sold out and will definitely see second prints following shortly. Krampus (2013 Image) #1, Lunita (2013 Amigo) #1, and Dead Body Road (2013 Image) #1. And for anyone keeping score here, Dead Body Road #1 will be written by Justin Jordan of the highly successful Luther Strode comic. A bit of a surprise with the almost sold out (will be probably by Friday/Saturday) Legends Dark Knight 100 Page Super Spectacular (2013) #1 this week. The reason for the surprise is the $9.99 price tag that accompanies the 100 page of goodness here. Fans are excited about the 100 pager for only $9.99 I guess. Way to go DC! Batman Black and White (2013) #4 brings in some fantastic talent once again. A must get every time it comes out. The future is now with Justice League 3000 (2013) #1. For no other reason than the super talents of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis on this book, it’s a must check out comic. Uttering the words “new hero” or “new villain” is music to InvestComics’ ears. Check out Cataclysm Ultimate Spider-Man (2013) #2 for the sweet sounds of a new hero. Origin issues are fun too. Check out Astro City (2013 3rd Series) #7 for the origin of Winged Victory.

Here’s a quick list of sold out or about to be sold out number 1 and number 2 comics from this upcoming week (Special thanks to Terry Hoknes for drawing this list up every week!!): Steampunk Cinderella (2013) #1, Code Red (2013 Zenescope) #1, Protectors Inc (2013 Image) #2, Day Men (2013 Boom) #2, Indestructible (2013 IDW) #1, Drumhellar (2013 Image) #2, Halo Escalation (2013) #1, Sherlock Holmes Moriarty Lives (2013 Dynamite) #1, Grimm The Warlock (2013) #1, and Brain Boy (2013 Dark Horse) #0.

That’s it, see you next week. Remember the contest! Let’s get InvestComics to 3000!

Invest wisely,

Jay Katz

Okay, so let’s talk about some comics……

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release 10-30-13

[scrollGallery id=316]

There was a comic book run that basically changed the landscape of comic books as we know them some 24 years ago. That comic book run was DC’s (Vertigo) Sandman from 1989. The ebb and flow of storytelling in comic books were changed forever in 1989. This was due for the reason of one man, Neil Gaiman. Neil is a storyteller; he has a pulse on what the reader yearns for. He sets moods, changes, flow and so much more. There are not enough words to describe this man’s legendary status. And quite frankly he doesn’t need words; he’s done enough for himself to establish his legend status in the comic book genre and in the publishing world as well. This week Neil visits familiar territory. Yes that’s right you guessed it, Sandman. Sandman Overture (2013) #1 will probably not break new ground, but what it will do is spark the interest of readers and collectors alike. Then again, maybe it will break new ground? Who knows with Mr. Gaiman? Here’s the nuts and bolts here folks, DC has spoken of Vertigo titles making it onto the big screen for a while now. What better way to start than right here, with Neil Gaiman’s Sandman? There have been many predictions within the InvestComics Hot Picks that have come to fruition (some not too), but to say that Sandman will definitely make it to a movie theater is not that far of a stretch, but it WILL happen. Sandman will become a film one day, and not only will it be spectacular, it will send the aftermarket into an absolute frenzy. This is why a collector should be on top on the 1989 Sandman #1 comic right now. Another book to be on top of is the Sandman Overture #1 variant from Dave McKean, a cool $125 for that variant, but can easily double with a 9.8 grade, and triple with a signature series. Not only will the Sandman Overture #1 heighten the interest of the already famous 1989 book, the movie to come will catapult it even more so. Thank me later. Don’t forget to let everyone know that InvestComics alerted you out on this one.

The recent “demise” of Damian was short lived and now the character has his own book coming out! Death in comics really doesn’t mean much, but you know this already. Anyways, Damian Son of Batman (2013) #1 will bring back the son of Bruce for a limited series, and then for sure a regular series down the line we’re guessing. Whether you’re a fan or not of the Damian character, one will have to stand up a bit and pay attention here. The character is a hot commodity, the collector should embrace this. The reader should just ignore him if they aren’t interested. The collector’s battle over the true first appearance of Damian rages on behind the scenes, but here’s the skinny. The only true answer lies within the money if you’re a speculator. The birth of Damian happened in Batman: Son of a Demon #1 in 1988 (not in DC continuity? Then maybe it is?), but according to the folks at CGC, they say that Batman #655 (2006) is the recognized cameo of Damian. The first full appearance of Damian is Batman #656. So with that, regardless of how the argument may want to flow, CGC is setting the precedence on the Batman comics #655 and #656 as the cameo and first, and this is where the money is going to be found because of the little inscription on the top of the casing. Buy the first Damian. It’s an uptick comic for years to come. Oh yes, one last thing. Pick up the Damian Son of Batman #1 Andy Kubert sketch variant at $60, grade it make money, simple as that. And finally from DC Comics this week, Forever Evil Argus (2013) #1 is sold out. The Forever Evil campaign continues to kill it on the shelves, well semi-disappear really. As the previous InvestComics Hot Picks have stated with the Forever Evil storyline, unless there is a major holy sh*t moment that really takes the genre by surprise, there will be no redeeming value (speculator) in any of the Forever Evil titles down the line. The true redeeming value here is a fantastic storyline.

Damian first appearance

Marvel Comics stays busy this week with comics like Captain America Living Legend (2013) #2. This book will introduce an alien like thing. Not sure exactly what, but check it out. And look at that awesome cover too! Dan Slott promises that the new Superior Spider-Man (2012) #20 will seriously shake things up. As if things haven’t been shaken already?! Be sure to grab a copy to see how things are playing out. Another shake up looks to be occurring in Guardians of the Galaxy (2013 3rd Series) #8. Peter Quill will betray the entire Marvel Universe? Okay we’re interested. Cataclysm (2013 Marvel) #0.1 would be nice to write about, but the Marvel solicit is “classified”. The variant is sold out though, know that much! The new Bryan J.L. Glass Thor Crown of Fools (2013) #1 will be sold out on Thursday. Be sure to have your copy in hand or in your pull box.

Ash and the Army of Darkness return this week in Ash and the Army of Darkness (2013) #1 from Dynamite Entertainment. Talks of a new movie will boost interest for the original Ash and the Army of Darkness #1 from 1992. That’s 21 years ago. Feel old yet? The comic is mostly sold out across the board. Archie Comics had a huge success with the recent Archie zombie book Afterlife with Archie #1 (InvestComics informed that you’d get the variants, hope you did!). So what’s next to come you may ask? How about Fox (2013 Red Circle) #1? Yep, the Fox is running amuck and its best you catch it! Preferably the variant! Fox #1 is another hot comic folks. Don’t believe it? Check by Friday and see if there are any variants left for you. Oh yes, check Ebay on those, they’ll be over there probably. Incidentally, in case anyone is interested. Fox first appeared in Blue Ribbon Comics #4 way back in 1940. Good luck ever seeing that comic in your lifetime in near mint condition or in your lifetime period. There are a few comics that should be on your radar due to the low number left or their sold out status. Wildwork (2013 Antarctic Press) #1, Adventure Time Spoooktacular (2013) #1,and Wilder (2013 Monsterverse) #0.

Amazing artist Marc Silvestri pays homage to himself this week with the cover on Witchblade (1995) #170. If the cover doesn’t ring a bell (How could it not??!!), it’s original concept cover was featured on the Uncanny X-Men #251 with Wolverine stuck on the X and not a W. Awesome cover on both Marc!! See below to marvel in the beauty.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to share InvestComics across the social media because not only is it cool to do, but you can win some awesome prizes too! Batman The Dark Knight #23.4 Joker’s Daughter #1 SIGNED by artist Georges Jeanty and Excalibur #1 SIGNED by legend Chris Claremont!!

Chris Claremont signing Excalibur #1Excalibur #1Pumpkin spice coffee is back at Dunkin/Starbucks, the leaves are getting crunchy up north, school has started back up, no Jerry Lewis??, the NFL season has begun, and who would have had the Florida team down here 3-1 at this point? InvestComics will head up to NYCC for the fourth year straight with press badge in tow, and this year with cohort Rafael Rosario of Ratchet City Comics! Excalibur #1 signed by Legendary writer Chris Claremont!! Rules are the same here. Share the InvestComics website on ANY social media outlet, be sure to let us know, and you’re in the running! It’s that easy! Chris Claremont! Awesome!!

BULLETIN*****An important announcement will be forthcoming before we leave to New York, so stay close folks. The “Dawning” of a new era is coming……

Let’s head on over to the 3D-less Hot Picks this week shall we?

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Releases 10-9-13

[scrollGallery id=311]

There are a few comics to really keep your eyes peeled to this week. Captain America (2012 7th Series) #12 will bring the character known as Dr. Mindbubble. Yes that’s correct, Dr. Mindbubble. Okay so what’s in a name right? Hey it’s a first official appearance here, so we must take a looksee. Always nice to have intro’s within the pages of a Cap book. Afterlife With Archie (2013) #1 has created quite the buzz around the comic book scene. With the award winning talents of writer Roberto Aguirre Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla, coupled with a zombie apocalypse, this new ongoing series (not for the Archie “kid readers”) is going to sell out quick. There will be variants of this comic available, be sure to grab them. The variants by the way are absolutely gorgeous.

Superman and Wonder Woman begin their romance novel/superhero comic with the Superman Wonder Woman (2013) #1 release. DC has done the unthinkable here folks!! Where’s Lois? Well welcome to the “real life”. Man gets famous; he wants the hottest chick on the block. Men are dogs aren’t they? Just kidding of course. But DC may have actually found a little niche with their experiment here. Why not put the most powerful superhero with the most powerful female hero and let the romance ensue. It may, may, may peek the interest of a “non” female reader to come along and pick this comic up. Fangirls and fanboys will pick this up regardless if it’s a decent story, but what about the elusive female readership that so many comic companies are trying to cater to? Well DC, you may have something here. Awesome stuff. The relationship between Supes and WW is essentially 66 years in the making. Better late than never right? They first met up in All-Star Comic #36 (1947). Good luck trying to snag that comic right now at a decent penny with all of the WW talk of possibly appearing in the new Superman/Batman movie. Oh and by the way, pick up the scarce variant black and white cover if you want to make a nice return on your dollar.

Major revelations are revealed in Batman Zero Year. Origins and a big surprise hits us in Batman (2011 2nd Series) #24. Pick that up, see if it’s a “holy sh*t!” moment or a “meh” moment. Our guess it’s going to be a “holy Batman!” Moment.

With every successful event comes the additional spin off books, case in point this week with Forever Evil Arkham War (2013) #1. Is it really necessary to have a separate Forever Evil campaign run through Arkham? Well maybe, but it kind of feels like a 3D moment doesn’t it? Cool, but why? Money that’s why! Duh! DC Comics striking while the iron is hot here with more Forever Evil comics. Probably a great, fun read, but unless there is a major wow moment going on in here or an intro, not much going on for this comic in the aftermarket.

Speaking of cashing in, this is great. Image Comics knows that the Walking Dead is their major moneymaker right? In Walking Dead (2003 Image) #115 Rick has declared “All Out War”, a 12 part storyline that starts this week. It’s one of the most dramatic event storylines to fill these pages in some time, if ever. That’s all well and good, right? So what shall they do to introduce a new major storyline like no other? How about 12 variant covers? That’s right, 12 covers…..wow. Cha-ching!

Image Comics comes at us with more great number one comics this week; Three (2013 Image) #1 and Rocket Girl (2013 Image) #1.

Coffin Hill (2013 DC/Vertigo) #1 will be another fantastic Vertigo comic probably. Death Sentence (2013 Titan Comics) #1 from Titan looks like a very interesting comic. Looks like a movie to come out of that someday possibly. Cryptozoic Man (2013 Dynamite) #1, already covered on Comic Book Men season II, look for more coverage on this comic in Comic Book Men season III. Horror comics are making a mild comeback and this week the much talked about (positive) Department of Monsterology (2013 Renegade Arts) #1 will be hitting the shelves. A few cool/fun comics to check out this week; Shaolin Cowboy (2013 Dark Horse) #1, Multiple Warheads Down Fall (2013) #0, and Marvel Universe Hulk Agents of Smash (2013) #1.

That’s it for this week. Don’t to enter the contest, LIKE/Follow InvestComics. New York Comic Con bound, see you in 2 weeks!

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for New Comic Releases on 9-25-13

(Disclaimer: all comic recommendations are from a speculative vantage point. Not all comics are to guarantee a return on your investment. This article is used as a guide for investments and more so for entertainment purposes. Any opinions or expression of investments should be used as a judgement upon the investor, not InvestComics. Please use your own discretion when investing and have fun.)

It’s been a fantastic start of the week for InvestComics. That’s if Saturday and not Sunday is counted as the first day of the week on your calendar. For me, I’m counting Saturday as the first day because of the great things that happened and are on the horizon!

InvestComics Publications received the last shipment (First printing) of our first ever publications comic ‘The Dawning #1’. Look for an InvestComics Newsletter coming in your inbox to be the first to snag a copy! InvestComics will be giving out FREE SIGNED copies to those who make and send a short video (5 to 10 seconds) professing your love to InvestComics. Send your video to either dropbox or wetransfer to contact@trendingpopculture.com. Be sure to sign up to get your newsletter at the end of this article.

Palm ConSaturday InvestComics visited an old friend with a dream and a passion coming to life for him. Martin Pierro of Cosmic Times Publications has done something that has been sorely missed in the West Palm Beach Florida area for quite some time. He started a comic convention appropriately named ‘Palm Con’ 3 years ago. The first 2 years were held in the American Polish Club in Lake Worth Florida. The show quickly outgrew the space needed in the first year, forcing to rent more space the second year, and now this year the show resided in the West Palm Beach Convention Center! Yes Martin is on to something here. In speaking with Martin for the brief few minutes we had at the show (he was a runnin’), you can see and feel the tenseness of the hard work he put into this show. He’s worked hard for this and it shows. In speaking with Andra Walt (mama), one can hear the proudness ooze off of every word, and justly so. Martin Pierro’s Palm Con has arrived.

InvestComics was invited to the event and came out with a few pictures and some video. Those will come out in the days to come. Overall the show had a nice crowd and people were really enjoying themselves. The guest list included Ethan Van Sciver, Deep Roy, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Allen Bellman, Jose Delbo, Carlos Castellanos, Jeff Dekal, Jessis Melero, Vinnie Tartamella, Creature Entertainment, and a host of others.

As already said, Martin Pierro is obviously on to something here. The West Palm Beach area was in dire need of some sort of comic book entertainment forum and Martin will provide this to the genre for years to come. I personally am very proud of him and look forward to the years ahead. Thanks for the invite Palm Con, I had a blast!

There will be some more news on the horizon from InvestComics, so sit tight. It’s very exciting, but cannot speak about anything until confirmation comes in. Such a tease right?

Let’s head into the DC 3D books for this week. Seems like forever now with these books no? How’s that saying go? Too much of a good thing is bad for you?  Well what seemed to be a fun idea is starting to run its course. The 3D covers are nice and all, but the 90’s are calling and they want real comic book covers back.

As InvestComics has done for the collectors each week regarding the 3D covers, we will present the comic and the first appearance of the villain takeover of that particular book. As the weeks pass, it looks as though the field is getting very thinned out. But this shouldn’t deter the collector, it only takes that ONE book to hit and you have chaos within the aftermarket. Be smart about which books to pick up as far as the speculation market goes, the story and the actual character (and print run sometimes) is what causes “that” particular comic to uptick. Not because of a pretty cover.

InvestComics – DC 3D Hot Pick Covers 9-25-13

[scrollGallery id=307]

Wonder Woman (2011 4th Series) #23.2 – Wonder Woman never really had the rouge gallery that stood out from most, and this week it’s a case in point with ‘First Born’ taking over the WW book. First Born debuted in Wonder Woman #12 (New 52).

Action Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – Metallo, another forgettable character takes on Superman in this takeover. Metallo makes his first appearance in Action Comics #252 (1959). Cover by Curt Swan.

Superman (2011 3rd Series) #23.4 – Staying with the Superman talk we have another one of those huh? Characters. The much bigger purple blob thing names ‘Parasite’ visits Supes. Back in 1966’s Action Comics #340, Parasite wasn’t on the roids yet and wore green shorts. The big question is will Parasite wear his green shorts in the new Superman Parasite book?? The tension mounts!

Aquaman (2011 5th Series) #23.2 – Moving right along here, Ocean Master, yes Ocean Master will give Aquaman his problems in his own book this week. Ocean Master. Okay, just like saying that for some reason. OM first appeared in Aquaman #29 (1966). All joking aside, maybe OM will be Aquaman’s nemesis in a film or television show one day. Image that…?

Justice League (2011) #23.4 – The ultra-cool Secret-Society will have the rights to the new JL book this week. Look for Secret Society of Super-Villains #1 from 1976 for their first appearance.

Batman (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – One of four Batman titles coming out this week. Overkill? Anyway, one of Batman’s biggest adversaries to ever come along after Bats was introduced all of those many moons ago was Bane. Just like Spidey had Venom, Bats has Bane. Not saying that the rest of their rouge galleries are a weak one, but to have a villain come out of the modern era and make such an impact like they have is a big deal. Bane has already been covered in two Batman films. Now granted the first one doesn’t really count, but it did happen and that accounts for something. It wasn’t until the second go around that Bane became the total bad as* that the character should have portrayed. The villain was spot on in The Dark Knight Rises, a fantastic film and a fantastic villain. Do yourself a favor, if you do not already own the first appearance of Bane in Bane: Vengeance of Bane Special #1 (1993), you need to. Although a big print run keeps the cost down a bit, it’s still a wonderful book to have.

Justice League Of America Vol 3 #7.4 – Just like the aforementioned, Black Adam is a total bad as*. This dude needs to appear in a film, stat! Check out Adam’s debut in Marvel’s Family #1 from 1945 (Fawcett Comics).

Batman and Robin (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – DC’s answer to Marvel’s Lizard came some 20 years later in 1983’s Detective Comics #523. Look for Killer Croc’s debut here.

Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #23.4 – Too bad the Green Lantern didn’t get as much love as it did. Fans were not at all pleased with the film as box office numbers would show. Sinestro however will remain a main staple in the GL gallery. Look carefully through Green Lantern #7 (1961) and there you will see Sinestro’s first appearance.

Batman Superman (2013 DC) #3.1 – Speaking of movies fans are not receptive to, the new Superman/Batman movie seems to be getting dumped on because of the actor choice Ben Affleck playing Batman. Don’t forget that InvestComics supports Ben as Batman on the Facebook page: ‘Affleck as Batman – I’m On Team Ben’. Click HERE to join the crusade against the naysayers! Any who, within this takeover issue we have the only “thing” to ever “unofficially” kill Superman. Doomsday first appeared in Superman: Man of Steel #17 (1992). Just like Bane and Venom for their respective rouge galleries, Doomsday has become “that villain” within the Superman gallery. A late, modern introduction that has caught on and never let go. Doomsday in the Superman/Batman movie? Hey you never know!

Batman The Dark Knight (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – One of the hottest “surprise” issues to come out recently is the Catwoman #23 (New 52) book. The aftermarket went bonkers when word got out that this comic contained the first appearance of the Joker’s daughter. This week the Joker’s daughter will make here “second appearance”. Don’t miss this comic, it’s definitely a sellout book.

Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #23.4 – The last of the Bat books has Man-Bat gracing the 3D cover. Sometimes a simple switching of a word can create a new character! Although not a recognizable, oh my God I need to buy the issue with Man-Bat in it, it’s the first appearance that’s more appealing than anything. Check out the debut of Man-Bat in Detective Comics #400 (1970). A story drawn by legend Neal Adams and a classic cover by Neal to boot! Good stuff here.

Now…..

InvestComics Hot Picks 9-25-13

[scrollGallery id=308]

Marvel Comics debuts the new Sun-Girl in Superior Spider-Man Team Up (2013) #3. Sun-Girl is a great looking 70 year old character. Check out the first appearance from back in 1948’s Sun-Girl #1 from Timely Publications! That’s pre-Marvel folks.

Also from Marvel,  check out Infinity Heist (2013) #1 and Punisher Trial of Punisher (2013) #1. With any kind of buzz with these two comics, they will be sold out very quick.

Speaking of sold out comics, if these comics bring it, expect the aftermarket to be a buzzing. Farlaine The Goblin (2013) #1 stands right in front of this line (Interview right now on InvestComics with creator Studio Farlaine!! Click HERE!). Sold out at Diamond Distributors, get your hands on this comic if you can. Zombie Annihilation One Shot from SILVER PHOENIX ENTERTAINMENT is also sold out at the distributor level. Other Dead (2013 IDW) #1, Powerpuff Girls (2013 IDW) #1 are sold out as well.

On the cusp of second prints are Sex Criminals (2013) #1, Super (2013) #1, Rat Queens (2013 Image) #1, and Planet of the Apes Giant (2013 Boom) #1. As always mentioned here, Image Comics have been on a serious roll lately. Their products have been outstanding. Watch out for the sell outs of their comics, because interest will eventually reach the “another” medium as Hollywood will start picking off some of their stories.

InvestComics HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=257]

This week in the InvestComics Hot Picks we have a combination of 9 number one issues/zero issues. But before we get to that, a comic book run like no other is coming to close to much of the dismay of many fanboys. Geoff Johns will end his run on Green Lantern this week with a double sized issue. Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #20 will be the issue that every fan will be talking about this coming Wednesday. The only thing we ponder is, why the hefty $7.99 price tag? Ouch. Granted a double sized, but throw a bone here will ya? Anyway, DC played it smart here because they will in fact get their $7.99 being that it’s the climatic final issue of Geoff’s run so kudos to them! (We’re in business here kids, don’t kid yourselves). So with the ending so near, InvestComics went searching for a beginning…..Geoff Johns first Green Lantern work. Well, you’d have to go all the way back to a backup story in 1999’s Green Lantern Secret Files #2. The backup story is called “Lost Pages: Haunting.” He wrote the backup that featured only one Lantern; Hal Jordan. So there you have it, the first and the last. The man single handedly responsible for the “Rebirth” of a character that was in the doldrums since the creative team of Neal Adams/Dennis O’Neil. He was also responsible  for the launching of a Green Lantern movie. So, want to cash in on this? Buy the final issue, couple that with the GL Secret Files #2 and bam! You’re welcome.

With the hit television series Arrow bringing its season finale to the table, It’s only fitting that Arrow (2012 DC) #7 this week brings one of his main adversary’s front and center. The origin of Deathstroke will be revealed. A cult favorite, Deathstroke is a breakout character that seems poised for the big screen someday. When this happens, probably not an IF here, but when it does, be sure to have your paws on The New Teen Titans #2 (1980). Already a collector’s book, this will continue to rise as the years pass us by. It will explode once he makes his appearance on the big screen. The New Teen Titans #2 comic appeared more than 8 years ago in the InvestComics magazine as a solid buy. This still hold true for today.

Ultimate Wolverine (2013) #4 will introduce a new villain, as Wolverine & Cap fight a villain “unlike anything we’ve seen.” In A Plus X (2012 Marvel Now) #8. Journey into Mystery (2011 3rd Series) #652 will bring back Beta Ray Bill!

Two sleeper issues coming at us this Wednesday. Deep Sea (2013 Dark Horse) #0 from the creative team of Jimmy Palimiotti and Justin Gray and Green Team (2013 DC) #1. Green Team looks like a very interesting read, definitely need to check that out.

Mike Mignola’s creation; Buster Oakley will star in Lobster Johnson Satan Smells A Rat (2013 Dark Horse) #0. Buster’s first appearance was in Hellboy: Box Full of Evil #1 (1999). Our friend Tom Mumme along with Blue Juice publishing bring Accelerators (2013 Blue Juice) #1 this Wednesday. Must check that out.

Rounding out the week (in no particular order) of MUST looks/reads/have’s; Solid State Tank Girl (2013 Titan) #1, Bounce (2013 Image) #1, DMC Devil May Cry Vergil Chronicles (2013 Titan) #1, Sex (2013 Image) #3, Half Past Danger (2013 IDW) #1, Jirni (2013 Aspen) #2, Akaneiro (2013 Dark Horse) #1, and Werewolves Hunger (2013 Zenescope) #1.

HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=241]

…Each and every week the IC Hot Picks brings the fan an almost certainty. A book that will breakout or be on the verge of a major or sometimes minor uptick in the aftermarket. Whether it’s a Bear market (sell) or a Bull market (buy), InvestComics has your back. Hopefully many of you heed this professional advice and pick up the recommended comics at your local shop. Yes the digital age is nice, but your local comic shops are the reason we all love comics. Support your shops fans, it’s important. There is room for everyone on this ship.

So what certainty does the InvestComics Hot Picks have this week you may ask? How about Invincible? If by some strange non-apparent reason you have been living under a rock for the past 10 years or so, Invincible is essentially the modern day Peter Parker. You talk about Xbreakout potential? This character; Mark Grayson is it. With that said, the release of Invincible Universe (2013) #1 this week will prove once again that this Robert Kirkman character is to reign supreme. How much longer before we see Robert’s character on the big screen? Television? Not so much. Invincible would not bode well on the tube. On the big screen is where he belongs and WHEN he does, look out. Yes, look out for Tech Jacket #1 (2002) for his first appearance to explode in the aftermarket when Grayson finds his way to the movie theater.

On a much smaller scale this week fans will see X (2013 Dark Horse) #0 sitting on the new release shelf. Although Killer X from Dark Horse is not as well-known as Invincible, the character stands to be a bad ass if he catches on. His first appearance was in Dark Horse Comics #8 (1993). In 1994 X appeared in his own self-titled book which lasted only 25 issues. The number one issue featured Rick Leonardi on pencils and Jimmy Palmiotti on inks. Don’t let this comic slip through your hands this week; Dark Horse’s version of Batman is here.

InvestComics told you about sex. No not the birds and the bees, but Sex #1 from Image Comics. Was it the lure of the title that made the first comic sellout so quickly that it’s now going to a third printing? Well all indicators’ point to this NOT being the case. Crappy stories in today’s market do not go back to the printer that often. The 90’s maybe, that’s a different story. In today’s market, fans and collectors are much wiser; they’re not going to be fooled with the prism/die-cut cover anymore. It’s about substance, about what is in the middle of your ears. Any of the hype issues; death or the president on the cover will eventually wane. So are you in the mood? Feeling frisky? Don’t miss out on more sex with Sex (2013 Image) #2 out this week. Remember, the story must sustain here to remain a hot book. No reason not to think that will not happen though.

Avenging Spider-Man (2011) #19 has its attention on the Sleepwalker character. The appearance of this hero will not boaster sales at all for the Avenging Spidey title, but it will add to an interesting story. We hope. If one feels so inclined to look for Sleep’s first appearance; one can find it in the 25 cent box at your local shop or comic convention. Look for Sleepwalker #1 (1991). Sweet dreams!

With the Iron Man 3 movie hype fast approaching, Marvel brings us Secret Avengers (2013 Marvel) 2nd Series #3. Why is this relevant to the new movie? Why it’s the “deadly new secret” of the New Iron Patriot. Yippee! Iron Patriot first appeared in Dark Avengers #1 (2009). And you already own that book…..right?

Rounding out the InvestComics Hot Picks this week are DC Batman Lil Gotham (2013) #1, Colonized (2013 IDW) #1, Kiss Solo (2013 IDW) #1,andG.I. Joe Cobra Files (2013 IDW) #1.

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for new comic releases on 2-27-13

IC-Publication-LogoIf you haven’t seen the latest InvestComics Newsletter, you should check it out right HERE. Big news coming out of the InvestComics camp! More to follow….

The new Breaking the 4th Wall Podcast here on InvestComics will have the Joe Harris interview! Be sure to check that out!

One consistency you will find these days here on InvestComics and in the Marvel Comics world these days can be summed up in 4 words; Guardians of the Galaxy. This week Marvel begins their quest to shove this team down our throats until the movie comes out in 2014. Although it may seem like a long time from now; hell we’re into the third month of 2013 already! It comes quick and the word quick should be in your collector vocabulary when it comes to any of these characters destined to appear in the movie. Marvel’s “primer” if you will comes out this week by the name Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1. With creators Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven attached to this project, it’s very safe to assume here that there will be quick sellouts here with demand in the aftermarket. Although Marvel pulled out some heavyweights for this book, is the appearance of Iron Man in this book a little bit of an uncertainty factor? At least it’s not Wolverine!

HOT PICKS

The team within these pages and the movie for the most part are still out there to be had as far as the collectors market is concerned. With that said, the longer you wait, well the harder it’ll be to get your bid in. Prices will be going up and up fans, no slowing down here…..for now. Bad publicly, delays, budget woes, and a bad trailer could change things very quick to the downside. Be wary here. Be a smart investor, know your market. Pay attention.

The following characters appearing in the new comic (and movie, not all characters, but we still don’t really know) are still readily available for the investor right now at some decent (affordable) pricing. At the forefront of your search should be Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon. Star-Lord (as mentioned numerous times already on InvestComics) first appeared in Marvel Preview Presents #4 (1976). There are only 29 of these comics graded by CGC right now. Three of which sit in the 9.8 slot. Do you really need more motivation here? Okay here’s some more for you. Rocket Raccoon first appeared in Marvel Preview Presents #7 (1976). There are an astounding 12 graded copies of this book out there. Highest grade is a 9.6 and only one sits there. Next grade sits at 9.2 with two sitting there. Get the drift here? Then you have Gamora and Drax. Both of these characters have a big similarity. That would be Mr. Jim Starlin. Gamora first appeared in Strange Tales #180 (1975) and Drax debuted in Iron Man #55 (1975) both are written and penciled by Jim. Now we all know that if you are a comic collector, one must own the first appearance of what is to become the modern day Darth Vader (Thanos) in Iron Man #55, which commands some big bucks in the aftermarket, but still a very strong buy at the high prices. Looking at the Strange Tales #180 though we see a trend like the previously mentioned, excluding the Iran Man book. Only 79 of these comics are graded. Ten hold the 9.8 position. Then we have Groot. Tales to Astonish #13 (1960) is the first look at Groot. Okay only 28 graded here. Highest grades available are one at 9.4 and one at the 9.2 position. Here’s the kicker with this comic. A debut from Groot and only 28 total graded?? This comic is a golden egg ready to explode IF Groot somehow makes it to the big screen and kicks ass. Not because he’s “groot”, because it’s a first appearance drawn by legend Jack “the King” Kirby. Nuff said. Well one more thing. Jim Starlin is one of the main reasons if not THE reason the Marvel cosmo’s being as consistent and brilliant as it is. Don’t kid yourself. He’s the Frank Miller Batman of the Marvel Cosmic Universe. Now, nuff said.

DC Comics tells fans that Flash #17 will introduce us to one of Flash’s greatest foes! Great! The Flash rogue gallery needs a kick in the ass! The Savage Hawkman #17 re-introduces the Shadow Thief into the New 52 Universe. The Shadow Thief first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #36 (1961). This issue comes with a Joe Kubert cover. Nice!

Uncanny Avengers #4 has Omega Skull in it. Is this the first appearance? Not sure, but wanted to throw it out there!

And another Uncanny book to look forward to this week with the word “skull” in it is Uncanny Skullkickers #1. Check out these books as well; Five Weapons #1 (Image), Amalas Blade #0 (Dark Horse), and Professor Frink Fantastic Science Fictions #1 (Bongo).

See you next week, invest wisely.

InvestComics February 2013 Newsletter

InvestComics February 2013 Newsletter

Hello everyone,

Being a firm believer within the business mindset (for a website) that if one achieves at least one productive feat in a month, one will end up with 12 productive achievements for the year and this isn’t so bad. Sometimes aiming very high will hamper ones productivity, thus creating a dull month because of unachievable goals. Each month with InvestComics, I try to obtain things that are reachable/doable. Once in a while you reach for the stars and with a lot of work…..a Stan Lee interview may emerge. Some goals may be smaller than others, but they still are goals that are met and however small, they are achieved.

Reaching for the stars once again, emerging is the new logo that you are seeing in this newsletter. All I will say right now is a press release will be following soon. InvestComics will be taking on another medium and being excited is an understatement. Yes; a major goal achieved. Stay tuned for more….

In last month’s newsletter fans learned about a new InvestComics Podcast Breaking the 4th Wall with Shaun Cobble and Shaun Sorenson. Since that announcement, a few things have happened to the show. The first thing is that Kirstie Cobble and Jason Craycroft are becoming more of a mainstay, which is very awesome. The second thing is that InvestComics has lined up some upcoming guest. Comic writer/screenwriter Joe Harris, IDW Chief Chris Ryall, and DC’s Dan Jurgens. How’s that for a lineup of guest? Look for announcements on the InvestComics Facebook page for when they will be on and for future guest as well.

As spoken about in previous newsletters, the video show The Broker & The Artist that appeared on an Indiana public access station aired for 5 episodes. The television show has since gone dark, but the show must go on as they say! Erick Marquez and I will continue the show as an InvestComics Youtube show! Look for episodes of The Broker & The Artist to appear soon on the InvestComics Youtube channel.

InvestComics has some new sponsors on the website. Humanoids and Zap-Kapow! Humanoids is an amazing brand of novels that if you are a fan of reading great stories with all around high quality, this is for you. Visit their website right HERE. Zap-Kapow! is an itunes app that caters to the comic book collector. A price guide at your fingertips! This app is amazing, check it out right HERE.

Don’t forget about the other sponsors as well! Bags Unlimited (click HERE), ComicWow! (click HERE), and Mancave Playbabes (click HERE).

….And on the topic of Mancave Playbabes. The owner Sid will be heading out to California in a little bit to rub elbows with some major stars in Hollywood. He will be attending an Oscar’s after party. We are looking forward to some good media happening from this visit. Can’t wait for the pictures from this one!  Say hello to Angelina for us Sid!

A contest was held this month. A signed copy of the comic I wrote Vincent Price House of Horrors #1 was won by Steven Cordero. This contest took place on the InvestComics Facebook page, so be sure to LIKE that page to be in on the next cool contest. Congratulations again to Steven Cordero!

Another contest will be coming up on the InvestComics Youtube channel’s FFFIC show. Win an original signed FFFIC introduction from LEGEND Jim Steranko!!!

That’s it for this month. Thanks to all of the fans of InvestComics. Invest wisely.
