Uncanny Inhumans #11 – Well, we’ll say it. We told you so. This comic is sold out across the board and has its aftermarket burners on. Look for some high prices on Ebay for those who did not get it on their pull list at their local comic shop. That’s unless you read the InvestComics Hot Picks #430 article and clicked a buy it now on Ebay. Prices bidding around $8 – $16 already. We told you to pick one up…….

Grayson Annual #3 – We also alerted Harley Quinn collectors that she’ll be appearing in this comic this week. Guess what? It’s sold out!

Spider-Gwen Annual #1 – Setting up some future story lines for Spider-Gwen happens right here. Spider-Gwen fans be on alert.

Captain Marvel #6 – As we said in the Hot Picks article, Marvel Comics seems to be setting up Carol Danvers as the premiere character within their universe. It may all start here. Just a speculative thought.

Deathstroke Annual #2 – A new villain named Balkan joins the fray.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: New Gods #1 graded 7.0. With lots of talk regarding the New Gods making a possible appearance in the new Justice League movie, this comic is a nice pickup. The first appearances of Orion, Lightray, Metron, Kalibak, Highfather, New Genesis and Apokolips. Also with a Darkseid cameo. Story and cover art from Jack Kirby. A fantastic book for your collection. A buy it now price tag of only $85.

There is a very big hyper-machine running behind a new character getting their own book in a few months. His name is Mosaic. Mosaic #1 is being pushed by Marvel as the next big thing (character) since sliced bread, but InvestComics is not going to give into the hype….just yet. A comic coming this week will be the first appearance of that “hot” Marvel character Mosaic. We are 99.999999% sure that other speculation sites and wannabe speculators will tell you to buy this comic it’s going to be so HOT! Maybe it will be, right out of the gate, but there are so many mitigating factors going into this week’s Uncanny Inhumans #11. Will Mosaic play a key role in the Marvel Universe for years to come? Anyone remember Sentry? Will Mosaic play a key role in another characters life? A brother, a son, a reincarnation? Will Mosaic ‘click’ with the fans long term? See Spider-Gwen or Gwenpool, but not Silk as much. Will the character actually have substance to make him interesting enough for fans to come back and or demand to see him more within the Marvel U? It has taken literally decades for Werewolf By Night #32 (Moon Knight) to earn some respect. Partial thanks to InvestComics for pushing that particular book for the last 12 years. The basic point here is not to go all in by paying premium prices for a first appearance of Mosaic if you have no idea where this characters’ future lies within the Marvel U. The easiest call to make these days is the new female characters Marvel introduces. They seem to jump out and kick major as* in the aftermarket quick. The female counter parts however are a bit more touch and go sometimes. Mosaic is the next Marvel character to be pushed in an aggressive way, to which does not always equate to speculator gold. Sometimes it equates to a huge bust. We’ll have to do a wait and see here for a bit, but for now, Uncanny Inhumans #11 has all eyes on it this week. Buy a copy and make your own judgment as to whether or not YOU want to dig in with Mosaic. Don’t think too long though or you’ll have to wait for a second print, thus missing that possible easy flip. This comic will be completely sold out before new comic book day Wednesday.

Fans of Spider-Gwen may want to keep an eye out on the Spider-Gwen Annual #1 comic this week. Marvel is setting up Spider-Gwen’s near future right here.
We hate to say we told you so, but we told you so. We informed readers that the Spider-Man Deadpool series was going to be huge. We told readers to pick up that Spider-Man Deadpool #1 issue, it’s now headed to it’s sixth printing. Check out the all-star issue this week; Spider-Man Deadpool #6.
Last month fanboys got their panties in a bunch because Steve Rogers uttered two very bad words at the end of his debut issue. Lets see if Captain America Steve Rogers #2 brings some clarity or sends the fanboys into more of a tizzy. Maybe Marvel will add fuel to the fire and have the fanboys daring to stop buying Marvel comic books! Been there, done that. Deep breath dudes, breathe.

The Amazing Spider-Man And Silk Spider(Fly) Effect #4 story will have both Spidey and Silk reminiscing about that fateful day in the science fair where they were both bit by the same spider. Ah, good ol’ times! And that Ryan Stegman cover is killer.
It looks as though Marvel is trying to put Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) front and center in their universe. Good deal, we dig it. Captain Marvel #6 will feature Carol in a defining type moment in her hero career. Be there to witness it.

Harley Quinn appearance alert! Harley will make an appearance in Grayson Annual #3.
Deathstroke Annual #2 will introduce a villain named Balkan.
Disclaimer; we’re not crapping on this series, but just stating facts via the social media non-presence and the overall quietness of fans. We warned speculators from the outset. Do not get too vested in the third installment. The colossal failure/delayed Dark Knight III hits its fifth issue (Dark Knight III The Master Race #5). Maybe sales are good for DC with this series, but fans are NOT really talking about the third go-around here. Delays have killed any momentum the series may have had. All that said, a Midtown Comics Greg Capullo variant looks snazzy! And of course you have the Jim Lee variant coming in at $550. Unbelievable to us how JUST a cover, a NEW comic, with the SAME insides/story as ANY of the other 10 variants commands $550. **The fanboy screams** “but it’s a 1 in 300” (or whatever the ratio is), we don’t care. It’s just a question of time before Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s Jupiter’s Legacy really takes off right? So much potential here it’s unreal. Jupiter’s Legacy #1 (vol 2) ramps up things once again and we’re all invited for the ride. And check out the Rob Liefeld variant. Very Deadpool’ish of Rob, we love it!

A lot to choose from regarding the indie market this week. So many, but here are a few to definitely check out!
Action Lab Entertainment books to check out this Wednesday; Zoe Dare vs The Disasteroid #1 and Vampblade #5 (Danger Zone). The Vampblade #5 cover is a hilarious parody of the Rom character. A must see. Fantastic job here by Winston Young.
The awesome Eric Powell writes and draws Hillbilly #1 (Albatross Exploding).
Black Mask follows up their hit book; 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank with the second issue. They also hit fans with Jade Street Protection Services #1. Written by Katy Rex and art by Fabian Lelay.

IMAGE Comics Every New Series Of 2013 Number Ones Sales Figures

IMAGE Comics Every New Series Of 2013 Number Ones Sales Figures

Market report and year summary by comics historian Terry Hoknes of www.HoknesComics.com

Image Comics had an incredible year during 2013.

In total they had 54 new #1 issues released including ongoing series, mini-series, one-shots and re-numberings.

This chart only covers Jan-Nov as the Dec sales figures are not yet released until the new year.

Here we list and rank all of them and show the diverse and successful year that Image had.

This chart shows the sales figures for every issue released during 2013 of any new series started in 2013.

Sex was the most prolific new title with 8 issues released during the year.

Jupiters Legacy #1 comes out easily as the #1 best selling new Image comic of the year and the only new title with sales over 60,000 with a whopping 105,000 copies ordered due to 4 covers and a high profile writer and artist.

This chart not only shows what sold well and what didn’t but it also is very useful to see which books have kept their sales figures up and are likely to be the books that in the next year stay hot and could potentially rise in value.  The main ingredient is constant and steady sales OR better yet increasing sales month to month. (The later is very rare in the comic business)

It is very common for #1 issues to be ordered higher than subsequent issues but after a few issues if the title is truly popular sales should level out.  In the past this has happened to successful titles such as The Walking Dead and Saga.

But in 2013 there are no clear winners in that category.  The strongest titles overall seem to include:

East Of West = sales of #4 were actually higher than #2 – very strong.   Finally started dropping but still at about 65% of #1.

Sex continues to drop every single issue but the sales drop is fairly low and readership at #8 is still more than 50% of #1.

Five Ghosts = originally a mini-series but sales stayed very impressive and #3 sold as well as #1 which is almost unheard of.  Once it was named as an ongoing series the sales have started to slowly drop but still higher than 60% of #1.

Todd The Ugliest Kid On Earth = originally a mini-series but sales stayed very impressive and #3 sold a 1,000 higher than #2.  #1 was an instant sellout and shot up in value the same week of release.  Once it was named as an ongoing series the sales have started to slowly drop but still higher than 60% of #1.  However back issue sales have stayed strong also due to the fact that it was confirmed to be a future TV series.

A Voice In The Dark had the lowest sales of any new ongoing #1 this year.  Either this means nobody liked it and sales are just going to keep dropping OR if it proves to be popular it has the greatest potential for price hikes as its literally the scarcest new series of the year.

Some big droppers in sales and not likely to show increases in the future include:

Ten Grand which has lost 40,000 in sales since #1.

Some of the ongoing series have dropped to as little as 25% print runs comparing to the #1 issue.

Some of these so far weaker dropping titles include: Sidekick and The Bounce.

Image Comics – #1 ongoing titles in 2013

Here are all the Image new ongoing series #1 issues this year

ImageNumberOnes

Sales are pretty consistent (20,000 to 30,000 range) for most of them and they are now all sell outs
After the peak of hype in hot Image comics a sales peak happened in March and April 2013. Prices have slowly been dropping down
Only Sex Criminals and Lazarus have had extra strong sales compared to the average Image title in recent months.
It can be debated that Zero is the rarest ongoing #1 Image title of 2013 as there is only 8,000 copies of each regular cover
Here are all the new Image titles ranked in order of rarity and smallest print run of #1
Ghosted #1 17,000 copies – 1 cover
Sheltered #1 19,000 copies – 1 cover
Chin Music #1 22,000 copies – 1 cover
Sex #1 23,000 – 1 cover
Zero #1 – 24,000 copies – 3 covers  (8,000 per cover)
Bounce #1 24,000 copies – 1 cover
Rat Queens #1 25,000 copies – 1 cover
Sidekick #1 27,000 copies – 2 covers (13,500 per cover)
Satellite Sam #1 32,000 copies – 1 cover
Sex Criminals #1 46,000 copies – 1 cover
Lazarus #1 48,000 – 1 cover
East of west #1 49,000 – 1 cover
Ten Grand #1 57,000 – 2 covers
Jupiters Legacy #1 105,000 – 4 covers (26,000 per cover)
Back in 2012 Image comics could actually gain in sales that wont happen now if readership grows on a title then back issues prices go up if all these new image titles don’t grow in readership than the #1’s are never gonna be worth much Comic sales need to grow or stay consistent and not continually drop month to month. Lets analyze some of the recent Image titles.
Great Pacific #9 4,700 an ongoing that just isn’t going anywhere sales wise Those sales are really weak for a Image ongoing title
Bounce #1 was 24,000 and #4 is 9,000
Sheltered #1 19,000 and #2 is only 9,000
Ghosted #1 17,000 and #2 is 10,000 no wonder they stated both issues sold out LOL cause nobody ordered them
Chin Music #1 22,000 and #2 was 14,000 notice the trend that most #2’s drop by about 40% that is a huge drop need to stablize by issue #3 or these titles are in trouble
Sex #1 was 23,000 and now at #6 its at 14,000 – that title has done quite well!! sex has only lost about 40% by issue #6 thats actually more popular than most
Ten Grand #1 57,000 and #4 is at 19,000 thats a drop of 60% by issue #4 not a good sign though of course it started way too high
Satellite Sam #1 32,000 and now #2 20,000 – again about 40% drop instantly
Lazarus #1 was 48,000 down to #3 24,000 – 50% by #3
East of West #1 49,000 to #5 36,000 that is super strong – barely lost any readers in 5 issues
Saga #1  37,000 and #13 is 55,000 – a gain in readership of 50% – SUPER HOT !
Walking Dead #1 6,000 and #114 is 70,000 – a gain in readership of 1200%
Its a simple formula release a great comic that readership grows and demand for back issues also grows The 3 Image titles on this list that have held the most readers are also the most valuable demanded back issues !

In comparison in late 2012 what were the sales figures of the latest new Image titles

I Love Trouble #1 7,900 copies

Clone #1 23,000 copies

Great Pacific #1 15,000 copies

Nowhere Men #1 11,800 copies

Bedlam #1 22,000 copies

I am always happy to hear your comments and thoughts/criticisms on any of my posts.

JUPITER’S LEGACY #1 SELLS OUT

Just as the InvestComics Hot Picks #266 called it!  “Look for Jupiter Legacy #1 to fly off the shelf”  “A definite pick up this Wednesday”

First issue of Millar/Quitely title gets second printing

jlcover01JUPITER’S LEGACY #1, the first issue of the Image Comics series that marks the return, after ten years, of Mark Millar and Frank Quitely as a creative team, has sold out. An issue that ably and enticingly lays the foundation of the story and themes of the series — including the wise use of power, generational clash, and moral entropy — JUPITER’S LEGACY #1 has gone back to press for a second printing, which will be in stores on June 5.

The debut of the new series, which was in stores on April 24, broke Image sales records for 2013 and has been roundly praised by critics:

“Mark Millar proves that he still has his finger on the pulse of popular consciousness with Jupiter’s Legacy #1, a premiere issue that explores superheroics in a way that is both refreshing and cynical…. Frank Quitely delivers some of the loveliest art amongst this week’s new releases. The aesthetic of Jupiter’s Legacy blends a powerful realism with a sense of the fantastical in a way that is seamlessly integrated with Millar’s narrative.”

– IGN
“Jupiter’s Legacy is elegantly written and drawn by Millar and Quitely; this is a book to be proud of.”

– Comic Book Resources
“Jupiter’s Legacy has depth and then some. It’s a thought experiment concerning the generational gap between the idealistic, overtly heroic ‘greatest generation’ and today’s hyper-commercialized, disaffected youth who exist in a culture which lacks the same certainty of purpose.”

– Bloody Disgusting
“Jupiter’s Legacy #1 is off to a hot start with a lot of promise to be one of the best mini-series of the year.”

– Geeks Unleashed
“Frank Quitely’s art is astounding as always.”

– Comicosity

The second printing of JUPITER’S LEGACY #1 by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely is available to pre-order now with the Diamond code MAR138318 and will hit comic book store shelves on June 5.
