There are many new story lines coming up on new comic book Wednesday…….

The Flash comic hits its 700th issue all-time this Wednesday. This anniversary issue will be numbered The Flash #39. The Tony Daniel variant boasts this milestone right on the cover like the other recent DC milestone issues have. Issue 39 or 700, whichever you choose to say, starts “The Perfect Storm” story from creators Joshua Williamson and Carmine Di Giandomenico.
Will this be the week Rorschach pulls the mask off? Maybe, maybe not, but one thing is certain, Doomsday Clock #3 moves forward, revealing more to its eager fans, probably leaving even more questions along the way.
Teen Titans #16; A “one shot” fill-in issue written by legend Marv Wolfman.
“The Power of Zod” part one; Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #37. Writer Robert Venditti and artist Rafa Sandoval.
New mini-series; Raven: Daughter of Darkness #1. Legendary writer Marv Wolfman along with artist Pop Mhan.

The Marvel solicit for X-Men: Blue Annual #1 states they will provide the team-up that fans have been demanding; Venom and X-Men Blue. Is this fake news? Could be, but Venom sells comics no matter where or why or how he gets into a particular comic. And with Cullen Bunn writing and Edgar Salazar penciling, therein is another reason for a must-read book. That isn’t fake news.
Writer Chip Zdarsky chips (no pun intended) away at Reed Richards secret origin(?) in Marvel Two-In-One #2.
The Amazing Spider-Man #794; “Threat Level Red” part one. Creators; Dan Slott and Stuart Immonen.
Legion #1 from writer Peter Milligan and artist Wilfredo Torres.
Inhumans: Judgment Day #1; Al Ewing and Michael del Mundo.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
Last week writer Frank Tieri took over the writing duties for the Harley Quinn series. Frank killed it and this week Mr. Tieri brings the fight in Jughead: The Hunger #3 (Archie Comics). It’s Werewolf Jug vs Werewolf Hunter Betty. Writer Frank Tieri brings the goods as always. As does artist Tim Kennedy. That Adam Gorham cover is sure to make the “InvestComics Best Covers Of The Week” list too.
Writer Marjorie Liu Monstress comic is spot on. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check this series out, pick up the new Monstress #13 (Image Comics) this Wednesday. It’s a new story with more pages then usual.
Most comic readers and collectors have the knowledge of how the debut of a new sci-fi Image comic works. Everyone buys it and it sells out. This week’s debut offering is Dissonance #1. Creators; Singgih Nugroho and Sami Basri.
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny – Rose & Paige #1 (IDW); creators Delilah Dawson and Nicoletta Baldari.
Vinegar Teeth #1 (Dark Horse); creators Damon Gentry and Troy Nixey.
Abbott #1 (Boom Studios); Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivela.

Avengers #28

IC 100 Club Pick: Avengers #28 (1966) 4.5 – Click To Buy Now

NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

We are not responsible for comics not shipped on time and or changing of release dates regarding this article or any article on InvestComics. We report on the comics DUE out the coming week. We have NO control of release dates nor will we change our article to accommodate a change in shipping, release date or cancellation. We also use the phrase “sold out” in our articles on a regular basis. “Sold out” means at the distributor. We have no way of knowing if your local comic shop still has copies at their store on the shelf of a comic that is no longer available on the distributor level. Please use common sense here.

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates in purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Avengers #28 (1966) Graded 4.5. This Silver Age beauty is the first appearance of the Collector and Giant-Man becomes Goliath. With legends attached to this book named, Lee, Kirby, Heck, and Giacoia, it would make a great addition to your collection. At a price tag of (only) $79.99 with free shipping. An early Avengers comic, a first appearance and 4 legendary creators…..what is there not to love here?

The Superman American Alien series continues to impress. Check out Superman American Alien #5 coming out this week.
Martian Manhunter #10 will contain the origin of J’onn J’onzz.
Poison Ivy Cycle Of Life And Death #3 cover by Clay Mann. Kudos!
Legends of Tomorrow #1 will have 4 separate stories of various characters from various creators. Firestorm from Conway, Hunter and Pansica. Metamorpho by Lopresti and Banning. Sugar & Spike (all grown up!) from Giffen and Evely. Metal Men from Wein, Scott, and Yildiray. As you can see, some super talents in this book. Fans should be up for a great read!
Both covers, the regular and variant for the Green Arrow #50 issue this Wednesday are awesome. Shane Davis on the regular cover and Aaron Kuder on the Batman V Superman variant.
Astro City #33 will introduce Fix-It Man.

IDW’s 3 Devils #1 from creator Bo Hampton looks good. Bo handles writing and art duties. Also from IDW, Ghostbusters fans will be treated to a new story; Ghostbusters Deviations. Sticking with the franchise stamp, Star Trek #55 will be the first part of a four part story line; Legacy of Spock.
Legend Alex Ross delivers as he does so often on the new Lords of The Jungle #1 cover from Dynamite Entertainment.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Infinty Entity #2 has Warlock running into the character In-Betweener. In-Betweener first appeared back in 1975’s Warlock #9. A Jim Starlin creation. Jim Starlin writes and draws that issue. Jim is also writing the Infinity Entity series.
InvestComics is still feeling the bull market with Deadpool And The Mercs For Money. Check out Deadpool And The Mercs For Money #2 and see why we feel this way. Good stuff happening here. All the first appearances of each group member right HERE.
A few things regarding the new All-New Inhumans #5 this week. First, there seems to be an introduction here, the Skyspears. Never heard of them, maybe you have? If not, this will be their first appearance. Second, a very cool Neal Adams variant! And lastly, a Spider-Man guest spot. An all around good comic here. Also good to know, the Marco D’Alfonso Sugar Hill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight Hip Hop cover is sold out.

International Iron Man #1 from Bendis and Maleev. It will be an interesting read because Michael usually takes us readers to places we’ve never gone. Lots of variants to choose from. We dig the Gabriele Dell Otto variant (sold out).
We love, love the regular cover to Scarlet Witch #4 from David Aja. Lovely.
Squadron Supreme #5 features a character being brought back from obscurity. Although featured in a few books late last year, he hasn’t appeared much of anywhere in his 41 year existence. Skull The Slayer makes an appearance this Wednesday. He first appeared in Skull The Slayer #1 in 1975. Written by Marv Wolfman and a cover by Gil Kane/Al Milgrom.

InvestComics gave our fans a heads on on Monstress #1 back in the InvestComics Hot Picks #396 article. Here’s a recap from that article; “There are a few reasons why to love Monstress #1 from Image Comics. First and foremost, it’s written by the talented Marjorie Liu. Second, it’s drawn by X-23 artist Sana Takeda. Third, it’s a new ongoing series, and fourth, it contains 66 (yes 66) pages of comic story with no interruptions. All for a $4.99 price point. There are currently none of these comics available on Ebay right now.” So with all of that, we tell you that Monstress #2 will be out this coming Wednesday. Buy it.
The new Image comic; Symmetry #1 has the looks and the making of a possible sell out. The same can be said about Violent #1. Two Image Comics to look out for this week.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

Marvel teases an appearance of Venom Hulk in the new Contest of Champions #3. Hopefully we see this within the pages and not get let down. In case you’re wondering, Venom Hulk first appeared back in 1989’s What If…? #4. The title of the story was “What If the Alien Costume Had Possessed Spider-Man?” In the story, the Alien Symbiote attacks the Hulk and alas, Venom Hulk! So that would be the first appearance.
Not only is there a possible first appearance(s) in Deadpool #3 this week, but the variant cover is a homage to X-Force #2 (1991) by Rob Liefeld. Which happens to be the second appearance of Deadpool. Anyway, the variant cover will be done by…..Rob Liefeld. Paying homage to yourself is sweet. And it’s sold out, that’s sweet too!

One of the hottest Marvel characters at the moment is Gwenpool. Marvel knows this. They know very well. What to do? What to do? Well if you’re Marvel you cash in, hence the new Gwenpool Special #1 comic this Wednesday. Tremendous eye candy from J Scott Campbell (Midtown Comics) and Robbi Rodriguez. The two covers provided by them will make comic fans take notice. If for some reason this comic possesses a key first appearance, it will be an explosive comic. If it doesn’t, it’s still going to sell out and be a good aftermarket book because it’s Gwenpool’s first solo number one comic. Gwenpool fever, catch it.

Spider-Man 2099 #4 may hold a first appearance. Check that one out. Check out Star Wars Annual #1 because it looks as though it will be the first appearance of Haarkon Dak! You know what happens when there is a first appearance in a Star Wars book right? A must get for any Star Wars fan and comic collector. A must get. Got that?

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.

A dark cover from Valiant Entertainment this week! Ninjak #3. There are 3 different glow in the dark covers to choose from. This is most excellent. Great storytelling and a very cool glow in the dark cover! Yes, we dig it. We’ll also get a final issue Fred Hembeck variant with Unity #25. Legend Fred Hembeck on a Valiant Entertainment comic? Yep! Awesome.
451 Media Group continues to sell out almost every new release. This time it’s Humbug #1. Looks like their version of Doctor Strange.

After-Shock Comics comes back this week with another new release; Insexts #1. Written by Marguerite Bennett and art from Ariela Kristantina. After-Shock will continue to deliver great product due to their creative firepower with their new releases. We are at the beginning of something special here.

We informed readers of Steam Wars First Empire #1 (Antarctic Press) selling out and now we’ll let you know about Steam Wars First Empire #2 selling out! Also from Antarctic Press; Super NHS one shot. That will be a fun read for Manga and video game fans.

Here is the must list from the LCSD comics; Jughead #1 (Archie Comics), Black Mask Secret Box Set, Hangman #1 (Dark Circle), Shield #1 (Dark Circle), Luminae (Sold out) (Magnetic Press), Exodus Life After #1 (Oni Press), Invader Zim (Oni Press), Rick and Morty (Oni Press), Book Of Death Fall Of Harbinger #1 (Valiant), Wrath Of The Eternal Warrior #1 (Valiant), and Welcome To Showside #1 (Z2 Comics).

Kevin Eastman of TMNT fame will co-write a new series coming out from Dynamite Entertainment; Cage Hero #1.

Also from Dynamite, James Bond fans will have something to celebrate besides the movie coming to a theater near you. A new comic; James Bond #1. The last variant count we have is up to 10, so plenty of pointless variants to choose from. We’d love to say to get your paws on the Jock variant, but we’re very unimpressed with the cover. Eye candy is nil.

Shane Davis’ Axcend #2, now that’s an impressive variant. And a cool comic too!

If you’re a person that follows the political landscape and you love demons, then Citizen Jack #1 (Image) is for you. Check out this crazy off-beat comic from writer Sam Humphries and artist Tommy Patterson.

Fans of the WWE will recognize the writer’s name in Drax #1. None other than CM Punk. He’s already done some work over at DC Comics (which we’ve covered), but this is the first time he’s doing creative work for Marvel Comics. The Ed McGuinness UFC cage variant would be a nice comic to get signed/graded if you’re a CM Punk fan. Thing is about the UFC gig, Punk announced he would be headed towards the UFC for some real deal fighting a long time ago (earlier this year?). Everyone is still waiting. That all said, a Drax solo comic should be a fun deal.

A new Hercules (Vol 4) #1 from Marvel arrives this Wednesday. The best of all volumes in the Marvel Universe came in 1982’s Hercules #1. The entire comic practically, creatively, was done by the awesome Bob Layton. It was a great four issue mini-series. In 2015, writer Dan Abnett and artist Luke Ross take a crack at it.

The biggest comic in all the land this week will be……brace yourself…..ready…..Howard The Duck (Vol 5) #1. I cannot believe I just typed that! And no we’re not drinking the Kool-Aid that some others may serve up. The mention of this comics has nothing to do pertaining to the character in this title. Simply because the latest craze in all the land; Gwenpool. And yes InvestComics gave speculators a heads up on her first appearance. (we’re awesome like that). Gwenpool will grace a variant cover and guess what? It’s sold out already! No surprise there. So the question here is not whether this will be a Scooby Doo #12 (which InvestComics did not talk about. Completed listings not sold on Ebay recently at $16.95/$14.95/$6.00) or a comic to buy and sell for a possible nice sum of money to buy a couple of weeks worth of your pull list. The answer is the latter. And here’s something for anyone really pushing the Howard The Duck character too. If you visit InvestComics on a regular basis, you will remember the Howard The Duck speculator clinic we put forth in March of this year. Remember, InvestComics is always in a business oriented mindset first and foremost when speaking about money for the speculator. We are looking out for your best interest. No fanboy stuff here, go elsewhere for that. So we are going to copy and paste the idea we put forth of why we think Howard The Duck will not come to fruition anytime soon on television or the movies.

..…..The Howard book will be a fun read though, so get it for at least that reason! Both are cool. So don’t get all hurt that I’m not that high on the Howard book. Speculation = opinion. Not that owning the Fear #19 (1976) book (first appearance of Howard the Duck) is a bad thing, but if you’re in the market to buy a good first appearance for $250 or $500 dollars, there are other books to seriously consider. Ask yourself this. Would Disney really want to jeopardize/replace the lure of Donald Duck with a wise cracking, cigar smoking duck? I highly doubt they want to throw Howard in our faces as the duck to really remember and constantly have questions from children to adults saying, “Is that Donald Duck?”. Um no. Disney would not want this. Why do you think there is no real talk about a cartoon or a movie pertaining to Howard? For this reason. Too close to Donald. Maybe someday Disney will bite the bullet and release a Howard cartoon or movie, but as for right now it’s not happening. Maybe a Howard the Duck comic book is a feeler to see what sort of attention it gets? Then maybe we’ll get some real news of something? This speculator doesn’t think we’ll see anything for some time. The Donald lure is way more important to Disney right now than destroying the very fabric of Disneyland or anything pertaining to Donald with people constantly mistaking Donald for Howard. Bycomparison, will we ever see a nasty mouse character created within the Marvel U that looks very similar to the Big Mouse with an attitude and possible cigar? The short answer is no. Howard will stay where he is right now and Disney is very content with that.

So there you have it. Lets recap shall we? Buy the Howard/Gwenpool variant this Wednesday, think about spending your $250-$500 elsewhere instead of his first appearance. Simple enough.

It’s just a matter of time before we see Nova appear in a movie or get his own thing going right? The Nova comics have always been entertaining, Nova (Vol 6) #1 will not disappoint.

A new Star Wars comic; Star Wars #11. An awesome Stuart Immonen cover here. We turned the comic horizontally so fans can really see it in its full glory. As always, any and all Star Wars comics; always a buy here at InvestComics.
A lot of creators from the comic industry contribute to Uncanny X-Men #600. Comic fans will want to thumb through this to see if their favorite creator contributed.
The new Vision (Vol 2) #1 looks very interesting. A definite pick up. A possible sleeper here. Take a look at that Ryan Sook variant as well, sweet.

451 Media Group seem to have a new hot book almost every week now. ExMortis #1 is sold out. Would you believe us if we told you that there will be a Santa Claus Year One type comic coming this week? How about if we told you that Grant Morrison will write it? Okay so this is Boom Studios’ premise to their new Klaus #1 comic. All set to a viking theme of course. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Others to check out; Hangman #1 (Dark Circle). Exodus Life After #1 (Oni Press). And just in time for Halloween, a story (sold out) from Space Goat Productions; Forty Coffins #1. Johnny Red #1 (Titans Comics) Garth Ennis writes. Another possible sleeper this week to watch out for; Niobe She Is Life #1 from Stranger Comics.

*This article originally appeared in (InvestComics Comics & Cinema section on Project Fanboy) in December of 2009. A few weeks back we covered the Avengers (Hero) Hot Picks, this week we take a look at the villains.

The Avengers have had many adversaries over the years. The Avenger villains throughout the years are definitely not a list of who’s who in the Marvel Universe. Better yet, a “who’s that? Or maybe even an “Oh yea I forgot about that one!” There is one thing regarding the villains here. Will the Avengers movie be an origin movie or an all out heroes vs. villains deal? Since the heroes are all getting themselves acquainted with the audience in their respective movies, one can hope that we get right down to business and have a villain or 2 appearing. We can also hope as well to see Thor vs. Hulk first, or a couple of the heroes battle each other, then get down to business and kick some villain as*!
While Marvel can choose any villain they want from their vast library, InvestComics will stick with who has appeared in the Avengers books as a bad guy or gal. So aside from one of the greatest if not the best tale ever to be read or drawn in the pages of The Avengers, The Kree-Skrull War would be “The Movie” to make for any fan of comic books, but this isn’t so much about us “comic collectors” as it is for Hollywood to figure out their best angle to make the most money out of the least amount of work. In saying “the least amount of work”, you have to understand the task at hand here. Imagine trying to fill up a screen with 3 Major Marvel characters that all will have had solo movies before this one comes out. If too much time is spent worrying about character time and who should get more money shots than the other, this movie will take about 5 years to get done. According to the latest release dates, The Avengers movie will be coming in 2 years! We’ll see it happen in 2012.

Now back to the Kree-Skrull comic. The first part of this mega awesome story appeared in The Avengers #89 with the awakening of Kree-Sentry. Although the first part from 1971 will cost you only about $60, it’s The Avengers #93 that takes the cake in this storyline. It’s the double sized issue drawn by the legend himself Neal Adams. This prize issue comes in at $250. Out of the entire 9 issue run here, this would be the one to get. There were 3 other legends that join in bringing this epic story that eventually led to the Secret Invasion story arc. Sal Buscema and John Buscema were on hand along with writer Roy Thomas. If you never got around to checking this story out, you should make a point of getting to it. So if the Kree-Skrull war doesn’t come to the silver screen as part of The Avengers movie, too bad for us and too bad for anyone that doesn’t know of this epic tale.

Let’s march forward to the Villains. Here they are in no particular order.
A Hank Pym creation that goes wrong, his creation is called Ultron. This villain has been around for a while now, constantly a thorn in the Avengers side. In 1968 the debut of Ultron happened in The Avengers #54. This will run about $70. Well worth it for a villain that we all know will always be around causing some sort of havoc for the Avengers. If Ultron is announced to make it to the silver screen, that goes up a few dollars tomorrow. If you’re looking to spend a few more bucks, take a look at The Avengers #8 (1964). This is the first appearance of Kang. Kang has been a brutal force against our Avengers for many years. The price tag here is in the $200 range. Kang is also going to rule the land in 4000AD.
The Avengers #4 hits for the second straight article. The first time it was for the first appearance of the silver age Captain America, this time it’s here because it’s the first appearance of Baron Zemo! Yes it’s a twofer issue!

Absorbing Man has given our mighty heroes a problem from time to time. Check out his first in Journey Into Mystery #114 (1965). This will be the most expensive of the choices with the Avengers villains. $2000 is the starting bid here. Our next villain made an early appearance in the Avengers books. The Avengers #10 (1964) features the debut of Immortus. $200 gets you a copy of this one.
Traveling to the Cosmos we find a few characters that have been a nuisance over the years for our beloved team. Korvac falls into the annoying people category for our team. Debuting in 1975 in Giant Size Defenders #3, he quickly found his way into the lives of Marvel’s Super team. This comic cost only $20. Take a look to the supposed granddaughter of the baddest Cosmo dude of all, Thanos. Nebula claims to be related to Thanos, but if she really was in some way wouldn’t she really be kicking some serious as*? Check out her debut in Avengers #257 (1985) for only $5. Yes it’s safe to say that she is a second rate villain, unlike her “grand daddy.” Speaking of Thanos, Iron Man #55 (1973) is the first appearance of the Cosmo goliath. If you find this comic in great shape for $200, it’s a fantastic buy for one of the most underrated villains in the Marvel Kingdom.

So there you have a smidgen of villains that have crossed the path of Earth’s Mighty Heroes. Will any of them appear in the movie? As comic book fans we always hope so! The possibilities of seeing a Thanos grace the screen or even Captain Marvel from the Kree-Skrull story would be a dream come true. Could you imagine the Avengers movie leading into a full out Marvel Cosmic Universe movie? They already have Silver Surfer out there; just add characters like Rom or something! Yes that’s right, Rom. Bring back ROM!

Invest wisely. Read Avengers comics.
