There is not much to report on this week except there are a total of 12, that’s right 12 number one issues coming this Wednesday. Not including two number zero issues. One number one issue, besides any Image Comics number one releases of course that needs your attention. Fans have clamored for a new Quantum and Woody series for quite some time. This Wednesday they will get it! Quantum And Woody (2013) 2nd Series #1 will be met with a slew of enthusiastic fans, and will grab some new ones along the way. Do not miss this issue folks, it will sell out quickly. While you’re at your local comic shop or comic convention, pick up the original 1997 series from Acclaim Comics to solidify your back issue market. It only ran 32 issues, but the potential of this series taking off today is far greater than it was back in 1997. With some serious creator firepower and Valiant attached, this series will succeed fast, don’t miss it. One quick side note here; there are only TWO graded CGC books out there right now. If this series decides to take off and you have a high grade, show me the money!

Cry For Dawn is coming back. Joseph Michael Linsner took a 3 year hiatus with the Dawn character and will bring her back in Dawn Swordmasters Daughter (2013 Image) #0. Dawn first appeared back in 1989’s Cry For Dawn #1. Only 174 of these are graded, and only 9 of them sit at the 9.8 spot. There may be some money to make there if you want it. Although Dawn isn’t in demand, it’s still a nice book to have in a high grade.

Rapid fire:

Unforgivable Experiment 1134 (2013 Brainmachine) #1 looks like an interesting book coming this Wednesday. Ninja Turtle Fans have a new series to look forward to, check out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures (2013) #1. Image Comics; number one issues to put on your checklist are Sheltered (2013 Image) #1, and Ghosted (2013 Image) #1. Also check out Adventure Time Candy Capers (2013 Kaboom) #1, Ballistic (2013 Black Mask) #1, Chronos Commandos Dawn Patrol (2013 Titan) #1, Boneyard The Biggening (2013) #1, Judge Dredd Classics (2013 IDW) #1, In Crowd (2013 Big Dog Ink) #1, and Death of Haggard West (2013) #0…… And that isn’t even all the number one or number zero issues coming out this week, these are the ones that made the InvestComics Hot Picks cut!

A couple of notables to mention are Wolverine (2013 4th Series) #6, “Wolverine’s world is changed forever – we’re not kidding”. This is the Marvel solicit (dun dun dun!). If a death in Fearless Defenders (2013) #6 happens, does anyone hear it? And Justice League (2011) #22 begins the Trinity War! Fun!

That’s it for this week. Join the InvestComics Newsletter today.

The most unsurprising, obvious, anti-climactic comic book to hit shelves in years will be coming at us this Wednesday Age of Ultron (2013 Marvel) #10. And in a polybag?!! Marvel for real here?? Here’s the scoop for those living under a rock for the past couple of months (spoilers coming). One, Neil Gaiman is the co-writer on this issue and two, Angela; from Image Comics makes her debut in the Marvel Universe. If the cat is out of the bag, why are we getting this comic on the shelf in a polybag?? So fans cannot thumb through it to see what they already know? Maybe, just maybe Marvel has another surprise in store for us? Hopefully so, because if not this is all extremely lame. Sorry Marvel, but you dropped the ball on this one. Speaking on the topic of lame, Spawn #9 (which everyone on the entire planet owns) is the first appearance of Angela. Why is this lame you may ask? Well for one, this comic came out during the height of the Todd McFarlane Spawn frenzy, so there are bazillion copies of this book out there. It was 1993, the beginning of the end for the speculation market. Don’t believe it? Here’s some healthy numbers (not good collector numbers) to throw at you. How about 371 total graded copies of Spawn #9?! How about 231 of those graded at a 9.8?!! How about 37 signature series books, with 20 of those sitting in the 9.8 spot? No upside here folks, sorry. But, here’s a big but (get your mind out of the gutter), with the talks of Marvel saying they want a strong female lead to star in her own movie, would they actually go with Angela?? Stranger things have happened. Even then, a strong spike would occur upon that news only to level off quickly because of the supply here. Do not get caught up on Spawn #9, meaning do not pay a premium. There are simply too many Spawn #9’s sitting out there.

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum here we have Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24 and 100 Bullets Brother Lono (2013) #1 this Wednesday. The opposite side of the spectrum is in regards to the graded territory. The 100 bullets character Lono first appeared in 100 Bullets #5 in 1999. In a much lower print run, this comic has a total of 6 graded comics. 1 at the 9.8 point and 3 signature series coming in at the 9.8 mark. Yes, understood that there is no demand for this comic to the likes of Angela, but what if, what if Warner Bros. branches out and starts bringing some of the awesome Vertigo titles to the big screen or television? There are so many amazing stories sitting in the Vertigo archives it’s an absolute surprise that WB or television hasn’t visited that well as often as they should. But IF and when they do, THIS; 100 Bullets will be tapped. A Showtime announcement from 2011 has never come to fruition, but don’t be surprised when it comes back to life along with other Vertigo titles.

The Power Pack team are set for their first appearance in the Ultimate Marvel Universe in Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24. Unlike 100 Bullets #5, Power Pack’s first appearance print run is more than that of bullets. But this shouldn’t deter the collector from still snatching this comic up! Here’s why. First off, Power Pack is based on a kid team right? What better time than the present to get a kid team off the ground and running to a possible cartoon later on? Why not, it’s possible right? Marvel and DC have proven that their cartoon series’ are successful; this would be a no brainer if Marvel hits it with Power Pack. Want more collector nourishment? How about that there are 40 total graded Power Pack #1’s (1984) and a bit top heavy at 20 in the 9.8 range? 7 signature series books, with one in the 9.8 spot. Although the top heavy 9.8’s are a bit of a turn off, it’s still early in the game as they say. Many collectors can find the first appearance of Power Pack sitting in the 50 cent bins at their local comic shop or comic convention. Do not sleep on these kids…kids. Why would Marvel be bringing them back if they didn’t possibly have a plan in place for them? It could be a long shot you’re right, but at 50 cents apiece, what’s to lose right?

Recorded AttacksZombies are amuck once again in the comic universe. This time with Extinction Parade (2013 Avatar) #1. Writer Max Brooks, THE Zombie guru of all zombie guru’s is about to unleash his zombie fest on the comic book genre. Max’s first (and only!) stint in the comic book zombie world came in 2008’s Recorded Attacks from Avatar press. This is a creator who is a bestselling author, the creator of World War Z, and about to make his mark in the comic book industry. Recorded Attacks is an extremely LOW PRINT run comic that has 20 total grades. 4 of which sit at 9.8, 11 signature 9.8’s. Get this comic now fans if you want to be a part of the new zombie apocalypse that is arriving from Max Brooks.

Joe Harris writes the new season of X-Files in X-Files Season 10 (2013 IDW) #1. A possible sleeper from Black Mask Liberator (2013 Black Mask) #1, also check out Wild Blue Yonder (2013 IDW) #1, Baltimore The Inquisitor (2013 Dark Horse) #0, and Spongebob Comics Annual Size Super Giant Swimtacular #1!

So with writer Geoff Johns out of the Green Lantern picture, DC is shaking things up already. Check out what new Lantern writer Robert Venditti is doing in Green Lantern (2011 4th Series) #21 this Wednesday. Hal Jordan takes center stage! And just in case you missed it, InvestComics did happen to land an interview with Robert about 3 months ago. You can check that out by clicking right HERE.

DC’s Batwing series will reveal the NEW Batwing in Batwing (2011) #21. Not only is this a cool thing, but it sports the best Batwing cover of its 21 issue run so far. The cover is done by Ken Lashley.

InvestComics HOT PICKS

[scrollGallery id=262]

Astro City (2013 3rd Series) #1 will be a quick sellout this week. DC will not only bring Astro City back to the comic book world, but will make this an ongoing as well. It will also introduce the fans to some new characters as well, so some first appearances to look for in here. Astro City originally came out in 1995 from Image Comics. Kurt Busiek was all over that as he is in 2013. Don’t sleep on this third series attempt to get this Astro City thing going. Third time is always a charm.

Lee Weeks has to be one of the industry’s most underrated creators out there today. He’s been around this comic book stuff since the 1980’s. But his name never seems to come up in many conversations. Lee weeks’ most notable work is on Daredevil. So with that, Daredevil Dark Nights (2013) #1 this Wednesday showcases Lee’s Daredevil artistry talent. This man is boss with the Daredevil character. His first crack at Daredevil was in Daredevil #284 (1990), where he remained the regular artist for over 2 years. Yes, Lee was doing something right! Next time you see him at a convention, tell him he’s boss and that InvestComics said so too.

Anyone like Mark Millar or John Romita Jr.? How about some Kiss-Ass? Check out the “last ever” Kick-Ass story arc from these two starting this Wednesday. Kick-Ass 3 (2013 Marvel) #1 will be it folks! That’s it! No more after this! Well maybe until the next big payday comes up in a few years, but still.

So not in the mood for some Kick-Ass? How about a Bad-Ass then? Thanos Rising (2013) #3 is the baddest villain in all of Marvel and he will prove his worth in some serious bloodshed this week. Be sure to check out Thanos ripping people new….urr…yea, beating people up real bad.

Borrowing from the shock value of titles from our friend Jeff Kaufman (Whore), Zenescope brings us Screwed (2013 Zenescope) #1. Will it be as good as Whore? By comparison, neither one of these books have anything remotely close to being alike in anyway, but let’s see if Screwed #1 lives up to the billing of Whore. Antarctic Press is attempting to bring the horror genre back in Macabre (2013 Antarctic Press) #0. Should be an interesting to see how fans take to this. And rounding out this week we have Herobear and the Kid Special (2013 Kaboom) #1. Looks like fun!

Be sure to SHARE this article and let us know (proof/link) that you have done so to WIN a Walking Dead autograph from Michael Koske!

Okay Hot Picks time. There are certainties in life. The character Thanos is one such case. So is the fact that last Sunday InvestComics informed you guys/gals that East of West #1 is a not to miss book. Yes, listen to the Broker when he tells you about the certainties in the collectors market. It’ll do your wallet some good. So getting back to Thanos now, if you ever doubted anything in the speculation market, this one would not be the one to doubt. If you don’t own or are thinking about owning Iron Man #55, stop thinking and do it. I cannot stress enough how much Thanos is going to make an impact on the movie side of things. The best comparison to make here is actually quite simple. Thanos will be the modern day Darth Vader. I have said this before and I will keep saying it. Thanos’ impact in the theaters will directly impact the back issue market. This said, this week Thanos Rising (2013) #1 will be altering the Marvel Universe as we know it. Yes that villain Thanos is going to bring it and you better be ready. This dude is a bad ass.

…..More certainties this week; Harbinger Wars (2013) #1. This comic will be a quick sell out, so you better grab one off the shelf before they disappear.

Superior Spider-Man (2012) #7 will see the return of Cardiac. The first appearance of Cardiac came in Amazing Spider-Man #342. Want to feel old? This comic was penciled by Erik Larsen 23 years ago!! 1990….23 years ago!! Wow.

DC Comics celebrates with a special issue of Detective Comics (2011 2nd Series) #19. “Mystery of the 900!” Umm, okay.

….More certainties this week; Regular Show #1. This book will be harder to find than any other in the aftermarket for cover price after Wednesday. Yep.

So with Venom (2011 Marvel) #33 we get the ol’ homage cover thingy going. Isn’t that nice? One little thing here though. Spawn #222 a few issues ago did the same exact thing. Two comics in such close proximity of each other paying homage to Todd McFarlane’s (paid himself homage; he’s proud of himself) Amazing Spider-Man #316. Click on the collage below to see a bigger image of all 3 covers side by side. Which one do you like best?

Venom

Okay so wrapping up. How about a bunch of number one and number zero issues to look out for? Miss Fury (2013 Dynamite) #1 (Look at that cover – holy assets Batman!), Robyn Hood vs Red Riding Hood (2013 Zenescope) #1, Steam Wars (2013 Antarctic Press) #0 (interesting concept here, Star Wars theme = sold out), Tales of Fear (2013 Aazurn) #1, Unleashed (2013 Zenescope) #0, Snow Angel (2013 Dark Horse) #0, Last of Us American Dreams (2013 Dark Horse) #1, andPolarity (2013 Boom) #1.

Not only does this comic give us the first Medusa, but the first appearance of the Frightful Four! This comic is brought to you by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This explains the $750 price tag for a CGC graded 9.2. On the complete opposite side of the spectrum; Fury Max (2012 Marvel) #10 brings us the origin of Barracuda. The big guy first appeared in Punisher #31 (Max -2006). Find this laying around in the 50 cent bins. Not a bad pick up for the modern day Kingpin. Another week another death. Robin a few weeks ago and now this week in Uncanny Avengers (2012 Marvel Now) #5 we hear that a major character will take a dirt nap.

The new 52 presses onward with their reintroductions. Fury of Firestorm (2011-) #18 gets a redo with the villain Multiplex. Find Firestorm #2 (1978) and buy it. Not so much for the first appearance of Muliplex, but the team that involved with the incarnation is impressive. Gerry Conway, Al Milgrom, and Bob McLeod. And look at the awesome Milgrom cover! Yes this is a keeper. Another comeback occurs in Superman (2011 3rd Series) #18 with H.I.V.E. The first appearance of H.I.V.E. is Action Comics #513 (1980). Again, much like the previously mentioned, the creators on this book are the draw here. Marv Wolman and Curt Swan give birth to H.I.V.E. Having two creators like this on a first appearance comic is quite the find.

Mister X comes back for another round. Check out Mister X Hard Candy (2013 Dark Horse) #0. Mister X first appeared in Mister X #1 (1984 – Vortex Comics) and at one time was a very hot comic. Maybe the new number one issue will heat up the back issue market.

There’s a moderate amount of number one issues (and a zero) to check out this week, but there is one that will sell out quick and command bucks in the aftermarket. Don’t say InvestComics didn’t warn you. When you come across East of West (2013 Image) #1 this week, pick it up. That is all.

Here is the rest of the pack that should catch your eye and investment savvy. Time Warp (2013 DC/Vertigo) #1, Dragon Age Until We Sleep (2013 Dark Horse) #1, and Honey Badger vs The World (2013 Antarctic) #1. Honey Badger still don’t give a sh*t.

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned for some very cool contest. And sign up to the InvestComics Newsletter to be the first on the block to know about the auction!

See you soon, invest wisely.
