NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Incredible Hulk #100 (CGC 9.8). We’ve been saying it for years and years. Planet Hulk will be a factor on the big screen and the comic book market (already has). This $99 higher grade comic will be double its value, easily, once Planet Hulk comes more into light as becoming a reality of a blockbuster movie. That is all. Buy it soon, a few collectors are watching it.

The Great Lake Avengers #1 debuts the team in their own book. Their first appearance came in West Coast Avengers #46 (1989).

After all the hoopla pertaining to Uncanny Inhumans #11, the first appearance of Mosaic, he will get his own title this Wednesday; Mosaic #1 This character better bring a uniqueness to it or else it’s a dead man walking.

The hot read/speculation book of the week goes to Reborn #1. Mark Millar writes and Greg Capullo pencils. How long before this comic is optioned to be a film or a television show? 3 amazing covers to gaze at too. Capello, Jock and a McFarlane. These covers add to the lure of this soon to be hot book. This series will hit the ground running (barring absolutely no delays), so stay on top of it.

Speaking of Jock, did you see that All-Star Batman #3 cover?? Wow.

We informed readers of the Deadpool Merc Money series back in January on the possibility of several spinoff series coming out of this title. We were correct on this. This week another Merc gets his own title; Solo #1. He first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #19 (1986).

…and more about Spider-Man, he begins a new epic event in Clone Conspiracy #1.

Vader meets his end, not his death, but the end of his series. Darth Vader #25 will be the final issue of the series. That’s until there’s a big number one relaunch again. The Chiang variant cover is one of our favs.

Some amazing eye candy this week, check out these covers; Suicide Squad #4 from Lee Bermejo. Deathstroke #4, doing battle with Batman by Shane Davis. Gwenpool #7, white variant by Mike Deodato. Supergirl #3 by Bengal.

Hot series Monstress comes out with its 7th issue this Wednesday.

Here are some new comic series starting up; Chimera Brigade #1, Duck Avenger #1, Lost Boys #1, Electric Sublime #1 and Black Light District 6 issues #1.

Daredevil #170 (1981) – The Kingpin makes his first appearance ever in a Daredevil comic. Frank Miller had a vision and it worked. Bullseye appears for the first time with Kingpin.

Daredevil #181 (1982) – One of the most iconic comic books in history here, the Death of Elektra. What If #35 (1982) – A few months after knocking off Elektra, Marvel immediately went to the well and made this comic. They already knew they struck a cord with comic fans and were cashing in. See they’ve been doing this for years! Frank Miller writes and pencils this alternate universe story. Oh and legend Steve Ditko pencils the first appearance of the Cat People in another story. No really, we’re not making that up.

Daredevil #197 (1983) – Yuriko (later becomes Lady Deathstryke) makes her first appearance. Bullseye appearance.

Daredevil #200 (1983) – A classic John Byrne/Terry Austin cover.

Fans of Image Comics’ Black Magick will be introduced to a new character in Black Magick #3.
The Wytches comic series from Snyder and Jock was a hit. It still has potential to be a bigger hit given the extra interest from a studio eventually. Whether it’s a movie or television, Wytches has that feel that someday it will be bigger, much bigger. This week, Image Comics will feature a black and white pencil only from Wytches #1 in an oversized format of 11×17. This amazing format and eye candy will be called Image Giant-Sized Artists Proof Edition Wytches #1. A must get for comic collectors and fans alike.
Spawn will face his greatest adversary that he never faced before! Yep. In Spawn #259, The Satan Saga Wars begins. The title of this event pretty much sums up who Spawn will be facing off against for the very first time ever. Satan. The Todd McFarlane cover is great, as is the Erik Larsen/Todd McFarlane cover. Spawn fights Satan, this is gonna be good.

Who are the Four Sisters? Find out in All-New Wolverine #3. And that Mike Choi variant is nice.
Mr. Negative will be causing all sorts of problems for Spidey in Amazing Spider-Man #6. Did you know that Mr. Negative first appeared in Free Comic Book Day 2007 Spider-Man comic? Now you know!
Two stellar covers for the new Carnage comic this Wednesday has to be mentioned here. The eye candy from Carnage #3 features covers from Mike Deodato and Yasmine Putri. Fantastic.
Marvel goes back to the well this week with Deadpool And Cable Split Second #1. Back in 2004, it was Cable who got first billing in the monthly comic; Cable and Deadpool. That series lasted 50 issues. Times have changed and the money is with Deadpool these days, so the Merc gets first billing now. Did you know that Cable first appeared with Deadpool in New Mutants #98 (1991). Maybe you heard of that issue? Anyway, Rob Liefled had an obvious hand in creating these characters so it’s natural we would get a variant for the new title from him. Seeing that fight cover from Rob, it brought us back to our favorite fight cover; New Mutants #93 (1990). Rob had Wolverine all over Cable on that one. Fun times, fun comics.
While we’re on topic about Rob, he creates the variant cover for Howard The Duck #3 with Gwenpool on the cover. A $60 retail variant. Yikes that is a bit steep! A very very nice variant from Rob nonetheless.
Marvel (Disney) will continue to milk the Star Wars franchise. Nothing wrong with that really. Disney is in business to make money and they are producing a good product, not crap. Check out another new Star Wars comic; Obi-Wan And Anakin #1 this Wednesday. Lots of variants to choose from.
Rocket Raccoon and Groot #1 should be all kinds of a fun read. That Todd Nauck Deadpool Incentive variant is neat.

Nothing Lasts Forever – The New Avengers Head Into INFINITY!

New York, NY—May 10th, 2012— This August, superstar writer Jonathan Hickman is joined by fan-favorite artist Mike Deodato to pit the Illuminati against their biggest threat yet  inNew Avengers #9! Tying into the blockbuster event of the summer, Infinity,New Avengers #9 shows fans what new threats lie beyond the edges of the Marvel Universe!

With the Avengers fending off an intergalactic threat on the edges of the Marvel Universe,Earth becomes the most vulnerable planet in the system! Enter Thanos, the galaxy’s most ruthless threat and an unparalleled force of brutality who brings order to the chaos of life through murder. Earth’s last hope may lie in the hands of a man who can level cities with a single whisper – Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans. But is the combined might of the clandestine group of Avengers enough to push back Thanos and his deadly group of lieutenants – the Cull Obsidian?

“As with Avengers, Jonathan’s issues ofNew Avengers are a critical part of the overall Infinity story. There are elements that were set into place in the earliest issues of the series that he and Deo will be paying off on here.” explained Executive Editor, Tom Brevoort, Marvel Entertainment. “You could maybe enjoy INFINITY without them, but you’re really not going to want to.”

Every issue of New Avengers includes a code for a free digital copy of that same comic on the Marvel Comics app for iOS and Android devices. Additionally, each issue of New Avengers features special augmented reality content available exclusive through theMarvel AR app – including cover recaps, behind the scenes features and more that add value to your reading experience at no additional cost.

This August, the intensity ofInfinity is turned up a notch as Hickman and Deodato show the power of the Mad Titan inNew Avengers #9!

Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks 6-6-12.

This week we get to really scour the back issue bins at our local shop or convention. Check it out….

Marvel’s Hulk #53 is the first on the list with 4 different comics to look for. These comics though are in no way hard to find! The new storyline brings in Alpha Flight, Machine Man, She Hulk and A-Bomb. The most nostalgic of the 4 here has to go to Machine Man’s first appearance. You can find that in 2001: A Space Odyssey #8 from 1977. Why the nostalgic label? It’s a new character Introduction written and drawn by Jack “King” Kirby. Do you need more than that? Good, because that’s all you need. Alpha Flight first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #120. John Byrne brought this team to life in their own self-titled book and Alpha Flight will continue to live on in some form for a very long time. If ever Marvel gets the guts, this team would make for a fabulous movie. She Hulk appeared in HER self titled comic as well back in 1980; The Savage She Hulk #1. While John Byrne wasn’t on the debut issue, John also had a hand in bringing THIS character to life as well! Last but not least, A-Bomb first appeared in Hulk #2 from 2008. The most loathe or loved Jeph Loeb had his paws all over this comic. And very cool cover from Ed McGuinness on this one.

DC Comics brings in new artist Miguel Sepulveda to Red Lanterns #10. Check out one of Miguel’s first professional work in Thor God Size #1.

Swamp Thing #10 re-introduces the villainous Anton Arcane to the New 52 fold. Anton originally appeared in the Swamp Thing series from 1972. Issue #1 was the cameo as issue #2 was the “full” first appearance. Never will understand the ridiculousness of cameo and full as it is related to collection standards within the resale market. The cameos are usually less sought after while the full first appearance gets all the accolades of demanding more money. The cameo essentially truly is the FIRST time we ever see a character, so why would the SECOND time we see them be worth more? Well, this is a debate for another time…….

Action Comics #10 focuses on the villain Nimrod, another of DC’s new 52 villains that will be re-introduced. Nimrod’s (silly name no?) first appearance is from 1992 in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #7.  This lovely issue is written by Alan Grant with art from Tim Sale. That’s nice stuff.

That’s it for the back issues. Should be enough to hold you over for a week no?

Marvel’s Dark Avengers #175 is being dubbed the 1st issue of a new era. With a spectacular cover from Mike Deodato that screams BUY ME! Wow if ever judging a book by its cover, right? Tron #518, actually Iron Man #518 introduces a new costume into Tony’s repertoire. With all of the recent talk on the Marvel Cosmo’s on InvestComics lately, it’s no surprise that The Mighty Thor Annual #1 wouldn’t be mentioned this week. Guest starring Silver Surfer and Galactus! And look at that cover too!

Independents will be overtaken this week by Spawn #220. Not because of the 20th anniversary tag, not because Todd McFarlane is back, not because this issue will begin the introduction of new characters, not because it will bring back some old characters, no no…..because there will be no room on the shelf for any other comics. 6 variants at last count. Ahhh….Todd always thought big.

In single issue releases this week, if there is room for them on the Independent wall. Check out Creator Owned Heroes #1 from Image. With names like Jimmy Palmiotti, Steve Niles, Justin Gray, Phil Noto and Kevin Mellon attached, this is a must check out book.

Higher Earth #1 from BOOM! Studios. Only a buck to buy! And it looks like an interesting book.

Check out some covers of the week below.

That’s it for this week, see you soon!

Invest wisely.
