Kill Box #1  – Looks like American Gothic Press has a sell out on their hands.

Harley Quinn #27 – Red Tool continues his debut rump in the DCU. Will this character ever pan out? Who knows? Fans seem to be embracing the new Deadpool wannabe. Fun read regardless.

Avengers Standoff Assault On Pleasant Hill Omega #1 – A possible introduction of a new character here.

Doctor Strange Last Days Of Magic #1 – A new “magic” character will appear.

Micronauts #1 – A new Micronauts series. Super cool.

NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

Strange Tales #126

Click To Buy Now

Each week InvestComics seeks out a comic(s) on Ebay for $100 or less and then brings it to the attention of our fans. We call it IC 100 Club Pick. The idea is to get a great book at a great price. We do not own nor are we selling these comics. The comics are found by a random process. We do not know the ebay seller(s), nor are we promoting the Ebay seller. Any knowing from the Ebay seller of InvestComics or its affiliates is purely coincidental. (See disclaimer for more details).

IC 100 Club Pick: Strange Tales #126 4.0. This graded 4.0 is the first appearance of Clea and Dormammu. With the Doctor Strange movie on the horizon, and the possibility that Dormammu could be the villain, this comic at a 4.0 will be worth spending $99 on with FREE shipping. Fantastic all around buy here.

IDW captures the hearts of Micronauts fans from the 80’s this week. Check out Micronauts #1 from writer Cullen Bunn and artist David Baldeon. A bunch of unnecessary variants accompany the release, but it’s the original series artist from 1979, Michael Golden making the ultra rare $100+ variant that will capture the hearts of those old school Micro fans. A CGC graded 9.6 number one issue of the original series can be yours for only $39! That listing is right HERE. Only 3 days left for bidding. OR just get a Buy It Now for only $49.99 with FREE shipping right HERE. Some old school awesome comics that will probably make a comeback……maybe animation, movies…..who knows?
The nostalgia train doesn’t just bring the Micronauts from IDW this Wednesday, it’ll also bring Strawberry Shortcake #1. The original Marvel imprint “Star Comics” brought a 5 issue run of Strawberry Shortcake back in 1985. IDW will hit on one of these comeback books in a big way eventually. Maybe it’ll be Micronauts, or Strawberry Shortcake, or maybe neither. Maybe it’ll be a another book that will bring a character or a toy back from the doldrums of obscurity. Be ready when it happens because it will.

InvestComics gave fans a heads up on Harley Quinn #26 and that sold out. Now we will tell fans about Harley Quinn #27. It potentially could become scorching hot. DC gave fans a glimpse of a new character name Red Tool. Already being called a ripoff of Marvel’s Deadpool (probably suppose to be fanboys! It’s called satire). Now Harley Quinn #27 will be the first full appearance of Red Tool. Will this character ever materialize into some big? A bust? Who knows? But we say with confidence that this comic will be sold out by the time you get to the end of this article. Well maybe by the end of the next paragraph.

Delays have absolutely killed any momentum the Dark Knight III Master Race had. If you’re still interested in the story and its 9 variant covers anytime the comic does decide to come out, Dark Knight III Master Race #4 comes out this week. We think. Didn’t we also warn you about the speculative market on this series as well? Why yes, yes we did.

Harley Quinn #27 is probably sold out now. Should have listened.

Batman #51 will be the last issue for Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. The collaborative team have given fans quite the ride since 2011. Now it all comes down to what Scott Snyder is calling the “quiet issue”. Scott says they’ll be giving Batman the night off. It would be great to have a silent issue here wouldn’t it? Most likely not going to be the case, but Snyder and Capullo will deliver one last time, be there for the finale, it will be special we’re sure.
One of the most pleasing things about this last issue is that there is only two covers at last count. No 18 variant covers or super limited ridiculous covers, just two. Two beauties too! Greg Capullo and John Romita Jr..

Avengers Standoff Assault On Pleasant Hill Omega #1, Marvel exclaims “…the stage is set for Major upheavals all throughout the Marvel Universe!” Didn’t fans already go through “MAJOR” changes just a few months ago? Can Marvel relax with the dramatics? Seriously. The good thing about this comic is the possibility of a first appearance in it. Keep an eye out on the new “major event” for any introductions of a new character. Especially if it’s a female character. The Jim Steranko Captain America variant cover is awesome. Regular cover price too!

A ridiculously beautiful Bill Sienkiewicz cover on Daredevil #6. Marvel is already producing a poster of this cover.

Marvel and the female dominant characters this week…..
Doctor Strange Last Days Of Magic #1 will introduce a new magic character into the Marvel U. And guess what…..it’s a female character! What a surprise!
….And speaking of the Female comic character, a solo variant cover displaying Doctor Spectrum on Squadron Supreme #6. Doctor Spectrum’s (Great Society) first appearance was in New Avengers #16 (2014). A cover price comic for the taking.
….And one more take on the female character deal. Star Wars #18 will feature Sana, Princess Leia, and Aphra all teaming up to kick some as*. That’s a book on our pull list.

A quick look at some indie comics to grab off the shelf…..
Kill Box #1 (American Gothic Press), variant sold out. Arhian Head Huntress #1 and Astria #1 from ARH Studios. Haunted Other Side #1 (Red 5 Comics); sold out. Hyper Force Neo #1 and Legend #1 (Z2 Comics).

Hyperion #1 – Marvel’s latest Superman push. Maybe they want to eventually have a Superman type movie one day. Maybe Disney wants that. And what Disney wants, Disney gets.

Obi-Wan And Anakin #3 – Regular readers on InvestComics know we recommend ANY Star Wars comic. Not only for the fantastic story lines throughout Marvel’s galaxy far far away, but also the potential of a new major Star Wars character getting introduced. That said, Obi-Wan and Anakin visit a new world this Wednesday. A new world could mean a new character!

Venom Space Knight #5 – And speaking of new characters. Check out the new Panda character named Pik Rollo in this comic. That Ariel Olivetti cover kills too.

Delete #1 – The Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, and Justin Gray team is at it again. This time with a Devils Due Publishing release. A must read of course.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #56 – This comic is sold out across the board. Regular and variants. The solicit point to the first appearance of Leatherhead in this issue……..but that’s not the complete truth. Check the InvestComics Hot Picks article to find the true first appearance of Leatherhead.

IC 100 Club Pick: Avengers #154 (1976) Graded 9.4. there are two standouts here regarding this pick. Let us tell you what the other non-standouts are first. It’s a 1976 book graded at a nice 9.4. It’s the first appearance of Tyrax. Legend, George Perez with interior art. Now let’s hit on the two standouts. First, the cover art is by Al Migrom and comic book legend Jack ‘King’ Kirby. Second, this graded CGC comic is priced at a Buy It Now for only $59.99. Okay one more fantastic thing….free shipping. This must be in your collection. Avengers, George Perez, Al Milgrom, first appearance, and Jack Kirby?! A 9.4 for $59.99 with FREE shipping. No-brainer here. Better grab it before it’s gone.

IDW introduces Leatherhead in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #56. Leatherhead actually first appeared back in 1988’s Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #6 (Mirage Publishing).

Bruce Wayne is back as Batman in Batman #50. Here is Synder and Capullo’s final Batman comic. They’ve had a fine run to say the least. Does it equate to Batman #1 in their run costing so much money in the aftermarket? More questions; Does that comic contain a major first appearance? A death? A creators first work? A low low print run? If the answer was ‘no’ to all of these questions, then the answer to our original question was answered. Here’s another thing. Look to the right upper hand side of the graded Batman #1’s. It’s blank. Nothing there. Not even a new costume reference. Not hating, we absolutely loved the run. Just need to point out the obvious and separate the boys from the men. Long term…..be wise youngsters, invest wisely.
Also reach their 50th issue this week will be Wonder Woman #50.
An awesome fight will be going down in Deathstroke #16. Deathstroke vs. Red Hood. Ding! Ding! Fight!
The Harley Quinn character faces a new direction in her life. Witness it in Harley Quinn #26.
Creator Cory Nord gives fans some eye candy this week. Check out the cover to Suicide Squad Most Wanted Deadshot Katana #3.

The Howling Commandos Of S.H.I.E.L.D. #6 will have the team searching for ORRGO. ORRGO has been used sparingly over the last 53 years. Maybe a little over a dozen appearances? Crazy right? ORRGO’s first appearance was in Strange Tales #90 (1961). A book from Jack Kirby, Don Heck, Steve Ditko, and Stan Lee. Wow, what a line up.

Click on the RED links or the comic cover to buy/bid from All sellers on Ebay.
Doesn’t Hyperion remind you a bit of Superman on a couple of his covers to Hyperion #1? Maybe Marvel is trying its hand again in trying to deliver their version of Superman. Marvel last tried back in 2000 with Sentry. Sentry was basically Marvel’s Superman at the time. They don’t really have that “Superman” type character. They really don’t need one. Fast forward to Hyperion #1. Marvel may be going back to the well again with the striking resemblance on those covers. Hyperion first appeared (cameo) along with Squadron Sinister in Avengers #69 (1969). His first full appearance was in the next issue; Avengers #70. Sentry (Robert Reynolds), first appeared in The Sentry #1 (2000).
Is The New Avengers #8 comic the first appearance of American Kaiju? It might be.
Obi-Wan And Anakin enter a new world in Obi-Wan And Anakin #3. You know what that means right? New world, new characters!

The Inhumans movie will be arriving in 2019. By then, Infinity War part II will have hit the screen. A question one may ask here is, will the Inhumans pick up where the Avengers movies cease? Short answer, probably yes. Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man (additions Wasp, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Vision) will fill in the new Avengers team roster after the current team is dismantled in Infinity War I & II. The Avengers can and will continue with an all new lineup one day, but until then, the Inhumans will probably take the mantle for a while. It makes total sense here. Some of the Avenger stars have become way too big for their roles, commanding more money and are also getting “older” as the series progresses. Remember when the phase just started? Chris Evans? Chris Hemsworth? Scarlett Johansson? Robert Downey Jr.? And the list goes on. No one really knew if any of this would work. It did. Now that “it did” and the success has and will run its course, ending with Infinity War II (2019), the only logical monetary thing to do is…..start over. Enter the Inhumans.

Since we all know that Marvel does not own the rights to the X-Men, this will be their workaround. Their version of the X-Men and come hell or high water, Marvel will make this work. Just to drive home a point that they don’t need the X-Men, they have the Inhumans.

It’s all going to start the same way it all began back in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr. Get that name everyone recognizes and get it to work. So with the Inhumans, the character that needs to be front/center and to work is Black Bolt. He’s the leader of the Inhumans. The King of Attilan. Who will be chosen to lead the way to another successful 11 year (more or less) run? Black Bolt will be the next “Tony Stark” because of the lead in to introduce the next phase. The character (the team) will play an intricate role in setting the table for everyone to follow.

The Avengers Infinity War parts I & II will probably (most likely) end many of the Marvel on screen careers. Our favorite characters will be gone. Marvel will set a new precedence in offing characters at a ridiculous clip. The reality is, Robert, Chris, Scarlett, Jeremy and all the others who have been around these movies for years are going to move on eventually to other roles other than superheroes. What better way to add finality to an unprecedented run than sending our heroes to sacrifice themselves against the greatest threat the planet and universe has ever seen, Thanos. Do not kid yourselves, there will be many deaths in the Infinity War parts I & II. In actuality, there has to be. The stadium is over capacity. There has to be closure so that the new blood can come in. That new blood being the Inhumans.

So in 2019, it’s all going to come to a head. 11 years to arrive to the greatest battle of all time. The greatest battle in cinema since dad and son went at it with their Lightsabers. It’s going to take every character fans have seen throughout the years and mash them into two movies. The Avengers cannot and will not defeat Thanos alone. Not happening. The Avengers, Guardians Of The Galaxy, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Winter Solider, Loki, Spider-Man, Warlock and so many more will probably appear in both films. Most will not make it to the next phase.

The comic book speculator has four years to compile their Inhumans comics library. What InvestComics has given the speculative community throughout our ten years is the ability to buy low and….sell high. This checklist is just that. Some of these books are movers right now, but their value in four years time will be immensely different. Tremendous upside here. Yes the first appearance of the Inhumans might be a bit pricey now, but it will not be anywhere near as close to the price it is now when 2019 rolls around. Think big. Think X-Men #1 (1963) or Giant Size X-Men #1 (1975). Marvel Studios’ version of the X-Men will become the next big franchise, do not miss this boat. Inhumans will be huge.

Most of these books if not all of them are extremely affordable…..for now. As time beckons, as news breaks, as announcements are made, as villains are cast, as the Infinity War movie starts coming into light, the Inhumans will become more and more of a household name and you will be very late to the party if you put things on hold until then. Be sure to thank InvestComics for throwing this early party now when the time comes.

As always, there will be missed books within the checklist below. We’re Inhuman, Ha! See what we did there?! There are many books listed. All kinds of first appearances, key issues and cool books in general. We simply do not know what the Inhumans movie will bring, so we tried to cover as many bases as possible for the speculator. If you have a comic you’d like to add, please help the fellow speculators in listing it below in the comment section. AND PLEASE READ THE DISCLAIMER on this site.

Fantastic Four #36 (1965) The first appearance of Medusa. Black Bolt’s main squeeze. Brought to us by the creative team of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.

Fantastic Four #44 (1965) The first appearance of Black Bolt’s bodyguard (cousin) Gorgon.

Fantastic Four #45 (1965) First appearance of Black Bolt (cameo) and the first appearance of the Inhumans team. Lee, Kirby and Sinnott. A must own comic if you are truly in the speculative market. This comic also serves as the first appearances of Triton and Karnak. Must own.

Fantastic Four #46 (1966) First full appearance of Black Bolt. His first cover as well. Same creative team as the previous issues and the same speculative rules apply as well. A must own here.

Fantastic Four #47 (1966) Every hero needs an adversary. A sibling at that. In this issue, Black Bolt’s insane brother makes his debut; Maximus. This comic also has the first mention and appearance of the land called Attilan.

Thor #148 (1968) The first of three consecutive, most desirable comics to own (besides the first appearance) if one is collecting key Black Bolt books. The origin of Black Bolt starts here (in a backup story). Still very affordable right now, but this will in fact change. This is also the first appearance of the Wrecker. An absolute non-factor because this comic will triple in value in a few years because of the Black Bolt origin, not because of the Wrecker. Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.

Thor #149 (1968) The continuation of Black Bolt’s origin. Must own.

Thor #150 (1968) The Inhumans origin. Must own.

Marvel Super-Heroes #15 (1968) First solo Medusa story. Black Bolt appearance.

Incredible Hulk Special #1 (1968) Hulk vs the Inhumans. Classic Steranko cover.

Amazing Adventures #9 (1971) The first solo Black Bolt/Inhumans comic.

Avengers #95 (1972) Another important comic because of the Marvel cinematic universe. It’s going to take more than just the Avengers team to defeat Thanos in Infinity Wars parts I and II. Will the Inhumans join in the fight along side the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy? Maybe. Maybe not, but this comic here is the first Avengers book the Inhumans appear in. Neal Adams art, Roy Thomas writes and John Buscema provides the cover. It’s also an origin story on Black Bolt and Maximus. Another must buy here.

Iron Man #57 (1973) Black Bolt/Inhumans first appear in an Iron Man book.

New to InvestComics? Please read the Disclaimer here before proceeding…

The new Dr. Strange movie will be hitting in July of 2016. That’s not too far off believe it or not. Dr. Strange will be all kinds of awesome when it hits. A new era of Marvel Studios magic will be spectacularly accepted by moviegoers. It’s going to be the first movie in which Marvel can display its CGI full tilt. Not saying they didn’t use CGI a lot in their other films, but we’re talking the mystics here! Yes Awesomeness will ensue, be prepared.

Dr. Strange will be a huge hit. Some of his key back issues have already exploded and we’re here to make sure you’re on point to join the frenzy.

Strange Tales #126 (1964) InvestComics recommended this comic a few years ago; the first appearance of Dormammu. We were ahead of the curve (as we usually are) in the sense we were foreshadowing to buy this book if a Doctor Strange movie ever gets made. Dormammu will probably be the nemesis in the Strange film. Also the first appearance of Clea which is also a good speculative thought to appear in the film.

The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 (1964) The first appearance with Spider-Man. Also with the Fantastic Four and a host of others. All art by Steve Ditko. First appearance of Sinister Six.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 12/11/13

Just a couple of weeks ago, InvestComics were making a statement on how important the Marvel Cosmic Universe will be in a very short while. Actually, InvestComics was reiterating what we have been saying for 7 years now. The particular comic and character we were speaking of was Nova. This week Nova comes into the fold once again. Nova (2013 5th Series) #11 promises to give readers of the Cosmic likeness a very very big surprise in this issue. Not sure what it is, even if I did know, I wouldn’t spoil it. The Marvel Cosmic Universe will have the Marvel U feel the effects, so buckle in tight fans. This is the beginning of what InvestComics has warned you about for years. The Marvel Cosmic Universe is about to take center stage. You best be on top of your Cosmic game.

[scrollGallery id=323]

Uncanny X-Men (2013 3rd Series) #15 will be an Inhumanity tie in with a “new comer” on board. The name is Kris Anka. One of the earliest works of this fine artist can be found in the Image graphic novel PopGun (2007). His earliest comic work came in Guarding the Globe #6 (Image Comics 2011).

Staying on topic with new creators in new places, check out Marvel Knights Hulk (2013) #1 with writer Joe Keatinge and artist Piotr Kowalski. If you are in the market for first works of newer creators, InvestComics can help you out with this one. Joe Keatinge’s first professional work as a colorists came in Masters of the Universe #4 (MVCreations 2004). His first writing duties came in Image Comics’ Ant #8 (2006). As for artist Piotr Kowalski; his first creative output came in his native country Poland in a book by the name Wiat Komiksu #4 (Egmont Polska 1998). His first American stint came in 2011 with Boom Studios’ Malignant Man #1 (2011). So not only do you get a great read with MKH #1 this week, but you get the inside scoop with the creators too from InvestComics. Mighty Avengers (2013) #4 Inhumanity tie in brings readers the New Ronin. The original Ronin first appeared in New Avengers #11 (2005) with that beauty of a David Finch cover. Huntress will be trailing a new villain in Worlds Finest (2012 3rd Series) #18. Check out who that will be. Looks like Owlman has some plans for Ultraman this week in Justice League (2011) #25. In the “in case you missed it department”, Justice League of America #29 (1964) gives us the first ever Ultraman. Doc Savage will get another crack at his own book this week in Doc Savage (2013 Dynamite) #1. The Doc may be appearing on the big screen as rumors do swirl all the time. Will it ever happen? If it does, look for a quick bump and then a quick flat line in his first appearance; Doc Savage magazine #1 (1933).

Comedy break; Two very funny solicits hit this week that have to make the reader/collector smile. First there was Superman Wonder Woman (2013) #3. The verbiage here reads “the ending of this comic is so shocking that it could mean the end of Superman and Wonder Woman together.” Really??! Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries may trump these two? We’re only three issues in DC please don’t threaten us with this already. Stop it, please. Too funny. Then you have Wolverine (2013 4th Series) #12. The verbiage reads like this “…the storyline the will change Wolverine as we know him forever!” Really??! Okay.

Now that we had our laugh, let’s get back to some other comics to check out this week. Three must get number one comics this week are sold out and will definitely see second prints following shortly. Krampus (2013 Image) #1, Lunita (2013 Amigo) #1, and Dead Body Road (2013 Image) #1. And for anyone keeping score here, Dead Body Road #1 will be written by Justin Jordan of the highly successful Luther Strode comic. A bit of a surprise with the almost sold out (will be probably by Friday/Saturday) Legends Dark Knight 100 Page Super Spectacular (2013) #1 this week. The reason for the surprise is the $9.99 price tag that accompanies the 100 page of goodness here. Fans are excited about the 100 pager for only $9.99 I guess. Way to go DC! Batman Black and White (2013) #4 brings in some fantastic talent once again. A must get every time it comes out. The future is now with Justice League 3000 (2013) #1. For no other reason than the super talents of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis on this book, it’s a must check out comic. Uttering the words “new hero” or “new villain” is music to InvestComics’ ears. Check out Cataclysm Ultimate Spider-Man (2013) #2 for the sweet sounds of a new hero. Origin issues are fun too. Check out Astro City (2013 3rd Series) #7 for the origin of Winged Victory.

Here’s a quick list of sold out or about to be sold out number 1 and number 2 comics from this upcoming week (Special thanks to Terry Hoknes for drawing this list up every week!!): Steampunk Cinderella (2013) #1, Code Red (2013 Zenescope) #1, Protectors Inc (2013 Image) #2, Day Men (2013 Boom) #2, Indestructible (2013 IDW) #1, Drumhellar (2013 Image) #2, Halo Escalation (2013) #1, Sherlock Holmes Moriarty Lives (2013 Dynamite) #1, Grimm The Warlock (2013) #1, and Brain Boy (2013 Dark Horse) #0.

That’s it, see you next week. Remember the contest! Let’s get InvestComics to 3000!

Invest wisely,

Jay Katz
