The weekly Avengers storyline ‘No Surrender’ has become an absolute must read week in and week out. Week 13 equals part 13. Avengers #687.
Staying with the Avengers, the Avengers: Shards of Infinity #1 will focus on a new evil organization named ‘Lunar’. The Marvel solicit promises the introduction of ‘some messed of villains’. If these villains fill out a larger purpose within the Marvel Universe, expect this comic to trend at a later date, otherwise it will be of interest right now because of the modern speculation. Creators on this comic; Ralph Macchio (writer) and artist Andrea Divito (artist).
It’s no secret that the Venom character has been trending for quite a bit of time since the announcement of a Venom solo movie. Heck, he’s been trending since Amazing Spider-Man #300. Marvel has jumped on the recent trend by putting Venom in everything. This week Marvel releases another Venom number one comic; Venomiized #1, by Cullen Bunn (writer) and Iban Coello (artist). Jump on the trend wave because Venom is not slowing down anytime soon.
Thanos’ daddy (creator) will write his final Thanos story. Thanos: Infinity Siblings #1 will be written by legend Jim Starlin and drawn by another legend; Alan Davis. With Thanos’ popularity at an all-time high right now, this comic will probably sell out.
Julie Power of Power Pack makes a rare appearance in Runaways #8. Fourth continuity appearance since 2012. Julie Power first appeared in Power Pack #1 (1984).
The Red Goblin will finally make his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #798. This comic has been trending since the word got out that this will be the first ‘full’ appearance of Red Goblin. So with that information, you better buy this comic quick at your local comic shop because it won’t be there very long.
The Dave Johnson Marvel Two-In-One #5 Venom variant will be making its rounds all over the place.
‘Old Woman Laura’ story begins in All-New Wolverine #33. This would be the first(?) appearance of Old woman Laura. Not too sure. Brought to you by Tom Taylor (writer) and Ramon Rosanas (artist).

The DC Metal Universe releases a number one comic featuring the first appearance of the character. Curse of the Brimstone #1 will introduce Brimstone. Writer Justin Jordan and artist Philip Tan.
Will the wedding of the century really happen? Batman and Catwoman? Find out what’s what starting in Batman #44. Writer Tom King and artist Joelle Jones.
Cyborg #21 introduces Mother Box 2.0: Robo Dojo.

Welcome To Paradise

Trending Pop Culture Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
No big secret here, new Image Comics’ trend ALL THE TIME. Some longer than others. So, this week check out Analog #1 by Gerry Duggan (writer) and artists Jordie Bellaire and David O’ Sullivan. Also from Image Comics; Isola #1. Creators; Karl Kerschl, Brenden Fletcher and Mssassyk.
IDW Publishing will forgo their ‘regular’ licensing release and hit fans with an original story. Not only an original story, but an introduction of a new character within their library. Check out Demi-God #1 from Ron Marz and Andy Smith. Said to be a cross between Deadpool and Thor. Now that’s a different mash-up.
Welcome to Paradise #1 will be the new offering from Scout Comics. Writer A.C. Medina and artist Morgan Kendrick Sawyer.
From Danger Zone comes Danger Doll Squad: Galactic Gladiators #1. Creators Dan Mendoza, Jason P Martin, Bryan Seaton and Winston Young. And from Action Lab Entertainment; Helm #1. Creators Jehanzeb Hasan and Miguel Angel.

Superman #34 is actually Superman #800. So says the Tony Daniel variant. Furthermore, Is this the first appearance of Lois Lane, Female Fury? If so, take a look-see and decide if it’s worth your $3.99 or $4.99 or whatever they will charge for this 800th issue.
Writer Jimmy Palmiotti ushers in a new era of The Jetsons along with artist Pier Brito. Anyone who grew up during the airing of this show during the 1960’s and reruns during the 70’s, knows that it was must watch television. Jetsons #1 will be must read comics. The new style here will have many historians of the old Jetsons show trying to untie their panties from bunching up. Relax, seriously. Just a cartoon and everything is open to anyone’s interpretation. Breathe fanboy, breathe.

Buy/Bid – Power Pack #63

Buy/Bid – Power Pack #1

Buy/Bid – Amazing Spider-Man #234

Buy/Bid – Peter Parker #98

A new Neal Adams comic? Deadman #1? Yes, sign us up. The variant comes with a glow in the dark cover as well. The 90’s sure is rearing its ugly head. Don’t mind at all, it’s all in fun!
Spider-Man #234 features the NEW Sinister Six. The team consist of Iron-Spider, Electro, Sandman, Hobgoblin, The Spot and new villain Bombshell. If a collector wanted to purchase any of these first appearances from this new team put together by Iron-Spider, it can be a bit costly. Except for one. Can you guess which character would cost you less than five bucks in some places? This is easy, right? Of course, it’s The Spot. The Spot first appeared in The Spectacular Spider-Man #98 (1985). The Spot looks totally cool on the cover posted here too. Thanks to cover artist Patrick Brown.
InvestComics recommended that collectors get on top of Power Pack #1 (first appearance) a few years back and then a movie announcement hit recently. We pull this off quite often. Boy we are good to our fans! The announcement of a Power Pack movie was well received. Now let’s see how the return of the Power Pack comic book fares. Power Pack #63 from writer Devin Grayson and illustrators Cresta and Marika. June Brigman, the original Power Pack #1 (1984) artist treats fans to a variant Power Pack #63 cover.

There are no words to truly justify this man’s work.  InvestComics released a Creator Spotlight post featuring Bernie Wrightson back in April of 2015. You can check that out right HERE. This week IDW Publishing releases Bernie Wrightson Artifact Edition. A montage of some of his unfinished work and so much more. A must for any comic book fan or comic artist.
The Gravediggers Union #1 (Image Comics); creators. Wesley Craig, Toby Cypress and Niko Guardia.

Here’s a speculation article that will run periodically regarding which comics we feel should be the next to hit the movies, television or become an animated show. Will any of these comics see the light of day? Possibly. Possibly not. InvestComics throughout its years (10 years, longest running speculative website on the internet and the number one speculative website) has called a MANY comics (and characters) to hit the screen WAY before they were ever announced to do so. Guardians of The Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Warlock, Dormammu, Kick Ass, Thanos, Nemesis, Crossbones, just to name a few that have come to light and or will be coming. We’re not saying that these comics in these articles are guarantees to ever come to fruition, but these are our choices we feel deserve some airplay….in some form. Even a video game too.

Please realize that all of this is a speculative look at the hobby. Maybe some of these will become reality, maybe most of these won’t, but understand that this is pure speculation. Read the disclaimer. Read the disclaimer. Oh and read the disclaimer and please have fun.

Rom (Movie/Toon/Game) – Marvel Comics made the Rom toy a cult favorite comic book. Now IDW will pick up the mantle and start an entirely new race and galaxy realm without any Dire Wraiths (Marvel owns that). Although a Rom based movie would seem a bit campy probably to make, we thought that of the Transformers idea too, but that worked. Maybe an animated show would fair better here.
*Rom #1 (1979) Writer Bill Mantlo and art by Sal Buscema. Cover art by Joe Rubinstein and Fran Miller. 75 issues. Rom’s first venture ever outside of his book came in Power Man and Iron Fist #73 (1981). Cover by Frank Miller.

Power Pack (Movie/Game) – As InvestComics called this comic out back in 2010, who would have known Marvel Studios would report directly to Disney eventually? We did of course. Eventually Disney will take over complete creative control, so with that said we get Power Pack on this list. A made for movie comic book right in Disney’s wheelhouse. It’s probably a matter of WHEN this will get done, not a matter of IF.
*Power Pack #1 (1984) First appearance. Writer Louise Simonson and art by June Brigman. Cover art by June Brigman and Bob Wiacek. Lasted 62 issues.

Micronauts (Movie/Game) – This toy line went on to spawn a plethora of comic books from many different companies, but it’s Marvel Comics who got things started in 1979. A movie would seem a fantastic way to go here. Michael Bay?
*Micronauts #1; First appearance. Bill Mantlo writes, art work by Michael Golden. Cover by Dave Cockrum and Al Milgrom. Lasted 59 issues.

Moon Knight (Movie/TV/Game) – InvestComics has been on this character since the inception of the website 10 years ago. If there is one character we feel that will guarantee to breakout into its own movie or television series, this dude right here is it. (A rare thing to get any sort of guarantees here on InvestComics). Check out the ultimate Moon Knight checklist from InvestComics right HERE. You will not find a better list. We guarantee it.
*First appeared in Werewolf By Night #32 (1975). First solo comic; Marvel Spotlight #28 (1976).

Alpha Flight (Movie) – Canada’s bad as* team needs to get their due. An absolute breakout film if it would ever get done. This team is the real deal.
*First appearance was in Uncanny X-Men #120 (1979). Alpha Flight #1 (1983) was written by John Byrne, art by John Byrne and cover by Byrne and Terry Ausin. Lasted 130 issues. If Alpha Flight ever takes flight and makes it to the big screen, Alpha Flight #1 will be the equivalent of New Mutants #98 in the sense that although there is a major overprint run on the book, it’ll command big dollars in the aftermarket.

Prince Namor the Sub-Mariner (Movie) – No stranger to InvestComics readers here. covered a few times over the years (BEFORE Disney became the official bosses recently) that Disney has conquered land and space on the big screen. Just a matter of time before they hit one of their favorite places; water. So many successful films for the Mouse company taking place in the depths of water. How about that first live action water superhero movie Disney? It starts right here with Prince Namor. It has to.
*First appearance Motion Picture Funnies Weekly Volume 1 #1 (1939). Fantastic Four #4; first Silver Age Namor. Stan Lee writes, art by Jack ‘King’ Kirby and cover by Jack ‘King’ Kirby and Sol Brodsky. Just like InvestComics informed buyers to buy the first Inhumans at ANY grade in the past few years, buy this comic book at any grade, doesn’t matter. Buy it. The Sub Mariner #1 (1968) comic is definitely one to have in your collection once the movie finally comes to fruition. No doubt here (another guarantee). The series lasted 72 issues.

The Pro – (Movie/TV) Here is an awesome movie or HBO/AMC television show waiting to happen. A prostitute superhero tries to find her way within the grand scheme of things with a baby in tow. A cable comedy series that would kill. This comic story is not suitable for all readers. If you’re easily offended, this book is NOT for you. A movie here would be good, but leaving audiences wanting more probably, so a television series would be the better route here.
*The Pro (2002) from Image Comics; Written by Garth Ennis, art by Amanda Connor and cover by Connor/Jimmy Palmiotti.

The most unsurprising, obvious, anti-climactic comic book to hit shelves in years will be coming at us this Wednesday Age of Ultron (2013 Marvel) #10. And in a polybag?!! Marvel for real here?? Here’s the scoop for those living under a rock for the past couple of months (spoilers coming). One, Neil Gaiman is the co-writer on this issue and two, Angela; from Image Comics makes her debut in the Marvel Universe. If the cat is out of the bag, why are we getting this comic on the shelf in a polybag?? So fans cannot thumb through it to see what they already know? Maybe, just maybe Marvel has another surprise in store for us? Hopefully so, because if not this is all extremely lame. Sorry Marvel, but you dropped the ball on this one. Speaking on the topic of lame, Spawn #9 (which everyone on the entire planet owns) is the first appearance of Angela. Why is this lame you may ask? Well for one, this comic came out during the height of the Todd McFarlane Spawn frenzy, so there are bazillion copies of this book out there. It was 1993, the beginning of the end for the speculation market. Don’t believe it? Here’s some healthy numbers (not good collector numbers) to throw at you. How about 371 total graded copies of Spawn #9?! How about 231 of those graded at a 9.8?!! How about 37 signature series books, with 20 of those sitting in the 9.8 spot? No upside here folks, sorry. But, here’s a big but (get your mind out of the gutter), with the talks of Marvel saying they want a strong female lead to star in her own movie, would they actually go with Angela?? Stranger things have happened. Even then, a strong spike would occur upon that news only to level off quickly because of the supply here. Do not get caught up on Spawn #9, meaning do not pay a premium. There are simply too many Spawn #9’s sitting out there.

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum here we have Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24 and 100 Bullets Brother Lono (2013) #1 this Wednesday. The opposite side of the spectrum is in regards to the graded territory. The 100 bullets character Lono first appeared in 100 Bullets #5 in 1999. In a much lower print run, this comic has a total of 6 graded comics. 1 at the 9.8 point and 3 signature series coming in at the 9.8 mark. Yes, understood that there is no demand for this comic to the likes of Angela, but what if, what if Warner Bros. branches out and starts bringing some of the awesome Vertigo titles to the big screen or television? There are so many amazing stories sitting in the Vertigo archives it’s an absolute surprise that WB or television hasn’t visited that well as often as they should. But IF and when they do, THIS; 100 Bullets will be tapped. A Showtime announcement from 2011 has never come to fruition, but don’t be surprised when it comes back to life along with other Vertigo titles.

The Power Pack team are set for their first appearance in the Ultimate Marvel Universe in Ultimate Spider-Man (2011 3rd Series) #24. Unlike 100 Bullets #5, Power Pack’s first appearance print run is more than that of bullets. But this shouldn’t deter the collector from still snatching this comic up! Here’s why. First off, Power Pack is based on a kid team right? What better time than the present to get a kid team off the ground and running to a possible cartoon later on? Why not, it’s possible right? Marvel and DC have proven that their cartoon series’ are successful; this would be a no brainer if Marvel hits it with Power Pack. Want more collector nourishment? How about that there are 40 total graded Power Pack #1’s (1984) and a bit top heavy at 20 in the 9.8 range? 7 signature series books, with one in the 9.8 spot. Although the top heavy 9.8’s are a bit of a turn off, it’s still early in the game as they say. Many collectors can find the first appearance of Power Pack sitting in the 50 cent bins at their local comic shop or comic convention. Do not sleep on these kids…kids. Why would Marvel be bringing them back if they didn’t possibly have a plan in place for them? It could be a long shot you’re right, but at 50 cents apiece, what’s to lose right?

Recorded AttacksZombies are amuck once again in the comic universe. This time with Extinction Parade (2013 Avatar) #1. Writer Max Brooks, THE Zombie guru of all zombie guru’s is about to unleash his zombie fest on the comic book genre. Max’s first (and only!) stint in the comic book zombie world came in 2008’s Recorded Attacks from Avatar press. This is a creator who is a bestselling author, the creator of World War Z, and about to make his mark in the comic book industry. Recorded Attacks is an extremely LOW PRINT run comic that has 20 total grades. 4 of which sit at 9.8, 11 signature 9.8’s. Get this comic now fans if you want to be a part of the new zombie apocalypse that is arriving from Max Brooks.

Joe Harris writes the new season of X-Files in X-Files Season 10 (2013 IDW) #1. A possible sleeper from Black Mask Liberator (2013 Black Mask) #1, also check out Wild Blue Yonder (2013 IDW) #1, Baltimore The Inquisitor (2013 Dark Horse) #0, and Spongebob Comics Annual Size Super Giant Swimtacular #1!

Hot Picks 4-7-10

invinreturns1.giftechjacket1_2002.gifThis week Image comics are giving us all a jumping on point, and if you haven’t already been on board, shame on you! Invincible Returns #1 will be a self contained ‘catching up’ story. It’ll bring you up to speed on all the things you need to know before you become a fan. This comic (character) has been one of the most consistent hero books out there out of ALL the comic companies. If you don’t believe turf1.gifavengerstheorigin1.gifnewavengerslukecage1.gifme, then I suggest you pick up IR #1 and you will become a fan. So while contemplating on whether to jump aboard, know that a movie will not be that far behind. Get the first appearance of Markus Sebastian “Mark” Grayson, a.k.a. Invincible in Tech Jacket #1 from 2002. This comic is an absolute gem and should already be in your collection. If not, shame on you! One more thing here, the Invincible Returns #1 will be coming out with 4 different thorandthewarriorsfour.gifpowerpack1_1984.gifcovers and ONE will be the gem here. The great David Finch variant (…got to get him for 10 For The Pros™!) will be proving the rarest of all covers with a 50 to 1 ratio. Buy this, CGC it and hold on to it. This comic and the first appearance will definitely be collector’s items later on. Image will be releasing 8 number one issues that equate to 2 number one issues this week. Turf #1 will ALSO have 4 different covers to coincide with its release. Same principal follows here as did IR #1 with the best ratio variant as the BIG get. This time it’s a rarer 100 to 1 ratio. This variant will be provided by Tommy Lee Edwards. Although this particular variant will probably not have the same demand as the IR #1, it will be a hot variant for a while. The Turf series will fare very well. Marvel will be ultimatecomicsx2.gifworldwarhulks1.gifshield1.gifreleasing 2 number one Avengers books this week. Avengers: The Origin #1 will be done by penciler and cover artist Phil Noto who is featured this week on InvestComics™ 10 For The Pros™. Also this week will be New Avengers: Luke Cage #1 brought to you by penciler and cover artist Eric Canete, whom is ALSO going to be featured on 10 For The Pros™! Way back in 1984 came a hot book by the name of Power Pack. Power Pack #1 was created by Louise Simonson and June Brigman. This week Power Pack joins Thor in Thor and the Warriors Four #1. Marvel gives us all the sense that Power pack will be going through some serious changes in this series. Will it mean anything for that Power Pack #1 issue from 1984? Well, not too sure with this one, but if you look closely in your 50 cents bins at your local comic shop and find one, it’s not much of a risk here at all. The least you end up with is shieldjs_4_.gifa vintage Louise Simonson/June Brigman story, a fun story and a first appearance from 26 years ago. Speaking of vintage, S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 hits shelves this week. It’s not so much that this character is vintage but it brings up an awesome excuse to display and praise Jim Steranko’s Nick Fury from the 60’s. Look at that Fury cover from issue #4 from 1968, classic my friends, absolute beauty here. I always live by the motto “In order to truly appreciate the modern day you must first appreciate and understand the past.” Jim Steranko really raised the bar with Fury and has been one of the toughest tasks to follow in his steps. Dustin Weaver will have the honor to do just that in this latest Fury book. We all look forward to checking out the new S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 comic. Ultimate Comics X #2 brings “Karen” into the forefront. Check out what her deal is this week. World War Hulks #1 brings in the most shocking conspiracies the Marvel universe has ever seen. What could this be? Check that out this week as well.
