InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 12/3/14

Avengers_118_InvestComics Thanos_vs_Hulk_InvestComicsThere are those who are comic creators and then there are those who ARE comic creators. It’s not that often we come across a talent that gives us readers an entirely new spectrum on an already existing universe. Speaking on the big two here, one of the last creators to take on and create an entirely new boundless universe was Greg Pak. Yes there were plenty to add and subtract parts here and there, but Greg Pak was one of the last to truly create something that will become absolutely huge in years to come. If you do not know what I speak of, I have written on InvestComics along the way for years that other comic sites (late to the party as usual) have picked up on recently. Still plenty of time to get with that program if you’re lost, because InvestComics is telling you now to expect Greg Pak’s comic booth at a convention in a few years to become a very big ticket item. So why bring all of this up you ask?

Back many years ago (9 years) when InvestComics was telling collectors to buy Iron Man #55 because I knew there was going to be something very special about this Thanos character one day, it came to fruition. Jim Starlin was THAT guy too. Just like suggesting the Iron Man comic, I told you that Jim Starlin was A comic creator. A man that created an extension of an already vast but compacted universe. The Cosmo’s is about much of the Marvel universe today as it is in New York. Without Jim Starlin’s vision, the Marvel Cinema universe looks extremely different. What would Marvel Studios’ main focal point be if not for Thanos? Ever think that? Of course there are so many Angela_Variant_InvestComicscharacters to go with, but would we really rather see anyone else than Thanos at the helm here? Some would, not saying that Thanos is the be all end all, but this was a fantastic choice to go with no? And it is because of Jim Starlin that comic fans are being treated to the biggest movie extension cinema has ever seen in history. Every single movie is interlocking for essentially one reason right now; Thanos. Starlin is an important puzzle within the realm of the comic book lure that lots are taking for granted. Lots aren’t as well, hence the longer wait times at his comic booth at shows. Don’t forget about what I said about Greg Pak……his lines will be just as long in a few years to come. You read it here first, just like you read why Greg Pak is so important years ago on InvestComics as well. Be sure that when you read the information here to tell others that InvestComics’ hit you up on it, not anyone else or your own. We are leading, the others are reading and just following our lead.

So what’s with all of this Jim Starlin talk? Thanos vs. Hulk (2014) #1 is why. Is Jim Starlin really creating anything new here? Not really, but I’ll tell you what might happen next for comic readers. You see with positive sales showing signs of a sell out down the line, Mr. Starlin will probably bring back the verses comic books. This battle, Thanos vs. Hulk will only trigger fans craving more comics like this. Expect big creator names down the line to put their own stamp on a verses title. Imagine a Superman vs. Batman by Miller? A Spidey vs. Venom by McFarlane? A Batman vs. Joker by Capullo? And the list goes on. Every comic reader/collector loves a good old fashion fight. Imagine the 4 issue or 2 issue battles that would ignite the interest and debate along with the comic book fans. Jim Starlin may have ignited a fire and we all don’t know it yet. Just like the Cosmo’s he put together so long ago and so well. Side note: just in case you’re keeping score at home, Thanos and Hulk first appeared together in 1973; Avengers #118.

Birthright_3_InvestComics Planet_Gigantic_InvestComics Shaft_InvestComicsImages Comics continues their onslaught in delivering stellar stories, which in turn makes for sold out comics, which in turn sometimes makes good for aftermarket sales. Check out Birthright (2014 Image) #3, Tooth and Claw (2014 Image) #2 and Humans (2014 Image) #2. All are showing nice gains with fans and they are reciprocating by buying up the titles.

Angela; Asgards bad ass assassin, makes her Marvel solo comic book series debut in Angela Asgards Assassin (2014) #1. Look for a sold out comic here fans. Will it equate to aftermarket sales? Most likely the CBCS signature series variants. Like one of the covers shown here. Awesome cover by Phil Jimenez. A pricey $50 variant, but if the series heats up, so will your signed and graded variant. Followers of InvestComics’ know that there is in fact money to be made on variants if done accordingly. I have explained for many years that buying random expensive variants and sitting on them is a huge waste of money. Buying certain variants and handling them the way I instruct will usually amount to a return. Again, not all variants will pay in the aftermarket, but being a wise speculator and following each week on here will help you eliminate or cut your losses tremendously. For example. Buying a $20 Battlestar Galactica Death of Apollo (2014 Dynamite) #1 variant or a $20 Shaft (2014 Dynamite) #1 variant will probably put you in the red almost immediately. The only way to get onto the plus side (possibly) with either of these variants is Secret_Six_InvestComics Tooth_and_Claw_2_InvestComics this way. Well only one will maybe give returns. The Shaft variant; get a hold of Richard Roundtree. Get him to sign the variant, get it graded and then maybe you have something brewing. Even then you’ll need a market for it. Is there a Shaft market out there? Is there someone willing to pay a premium for a Ricahrd Roundtree Shaft variant comic? It does make for a nice collectors item for your personal stash though doesn’t it?! The Battlestar variant is a loss in the sense of value. The story is probably fantastic, but monetarily, the variant is a loss.

The amazing Gail Simone is back with a new story for us; Secret Six (2014 4th Series) #1. This looks like a great story and a great pick up. Look for a second printing in the near future.

Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are back together this week in Justice League 3000 (2013) #12. The Inhuman (2014 Marvel) #9 comic will explain what Ennilux Corporation is. Army of Darkness (2014 Dynamite) Volume 4 #1 is practically sold out already as is Planet Gigantic (2014 Action Lab) #2.

Fight_Like_A_Girl_InvestComics Quantum_and_Woody_InvestComicsWolf_Moon_InvestComicsFight Like A Girl (2014) #1 and Wolf Moon (2014 DC/Vertigo) #1 look very interesting. Definitely need to check those out. Wolf Moon; A new Vertigo mini by writer Cullen Bunn? Yes please.

And finally, Valiant gives Quantum and Woody fans a special treat; Valiant Sized Quantum And Woody (2014 Valiant) #1.

See you soon. Invest wisely.

Carpe Diem.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 10/15/14

The InvestComics team is fresh back from the New York Comic Con 2014. This was our first time ever facilitating for the awesome grading company CBCS. It was fantastic. Many cool variants, old comics, and lots of Synder autographs were requested. All and all a great experience and we look forward to serving everyone’s needs at future shows.

If you follow us on any of the major social outlets we are on, you would have seen some great coverage of the show. As usual we will be combining a lot of the pictures to give fans a collage in a video form. That will be coming soon.

Thanks to the InvestComics team Rafael Rosario and Chico. An amazing duo that pursues above and beyond…..cannot not explain the gratefulness to them in words, but thank you, thank you, and thank you.

Let’s jump into the InvestComics Hot Picks. Comics are due out tomorrow……

One thing was most certain at this year’s New York Comic Con and that is that 215 Ink has a hit on their hands. The Enormous NYCC variant was nowhere to be found 30 minutes into the show. The next day was no better. Bottom line here, the Enormous comic is making some noise and this week Enormous (2014) Ongoing #4 is hitting the shelf with a sold out sign on it. This means if you see any on the new comic book wall at your shop, once that spot is empty; it’s empty until a second printing comes along. The hit series continues to sell out, so you may want to be on top of it early before it’s 20 issues in and the early issues command too much money.

Another comic that continues to sell out is Cutter. Cutter (2014 Image) #3 is gone at the distributor. Be on top of this too.

The video game industry is an industry that pulls in billions upon billions of dollars per year. What if you put out a comic book that consist of one of the biggest video game money makers in history?…. A  2 billion dollar franchise? Well IDW are taking their chance with Skylanders (2014 IDW) #1. What will this comic present in the spec market? Maybe not much, maybe something, who knows? What we do know is that the Skylanders franchise has pulled in some seriously crazy money, oh and the subscription release is sold out. Will the popularity leak into the comic book form? Will the demand be there and drive prices up in the aftermarket? You’ll have to take a chance with this one. A $3.99 gamble, your call.

Week after week I consistently remind collectors that the Spider-Verse  storyline is one to keep an eye on. There are a tremendous amount of new characters being introduced and this week is no different. Check out Edge of Spider-Verse (2014 Marvel) #5 with Sp//dr. Looks like Spider-Man has gone Anime. One of these new Spidey’s will break out in a big way and you’ll be kicking yourself for it.

Speaking of Spider-Man. Did you see the cover to Spider-Man 2099 (2014) #5? Wow that is nice!

The ever so popular Quantum and Woody from Valiant return with an almost sold out number one issue. Be sure to check out Q2 Return of Quantum And Woody (2014 Valiant) #1. 2058770A few variants are available with the new release.

The Deadpool photobomb cover of Hulk (2014 2nd Series) #7 is sold out. A classic homage cover to Todd McFarlane’s Incredible Hulk #340.

And staying on topic with Wolverine, Wolverine and the X-Men (2014) #10 will lay Logan to rest in a big way. A big way meaning there will be many artist contributing to this issue. Always good to get these types of comics because a first professional work always slips in. Or a first work on a character that the artist could go on to dominate later on in their career.

Last of the Wolverine books to check out this week would be Death of Wolverine Logan Legacy (2014) #1. This comic has some of the best Wolverine rouge gallery ever featured in it. Looks like a fun read if anything. Only a 7 issue run here.

By “killing off” one of the most overused characters in the Marvel Universe, he gets replaced by Deadpool. This Wednesday we are treated with a new number one issue pertaining to Deadpool. This time it’s Deadpool’s Art of War (2014) #1. Aftermarket draw? Not too sure here, but just some Deadpool reading by none other than Peter David!

Doctor Who fans rejoice. A new number one comic heads your way on new comic book day; Doctor Who The Twelfth Doctor (2014 Titan) #1. Better hurry though because it looks like it’s almost sold out.

That’s it for this week. Thank you all for the well wishes. See you next week.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.

InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 8/20/14

IMG_0956InvestComics is at the ComiCONN in Connecticut this weekend. You should really hop on over to the InvestComics Instagram to check out the very cool images from the show. There is some awesome cosplay and so much more. Look for more pics to appear on the actual InvestComics site later. Special thanks goes out to the InvestComics VP Rafael Rosario (@ratchetcitycomics) for holding up the fort at the show.  His north east coverage this year has been outstanding.

Next stop; Baltimore Con and the New York Comic Con. We’re looking forward to those!

Not much in the way of the speculation market this week, but plenty of new reads. Now is a good time to get your inventory in order and look for those back issues you have been putting off. But, we can start fun speculation mayhem if you’d want to be a part of it! Details below……!

[scrollGallery id=366]

The spec market possibly turns your two purchases of $3.50 and $3.99 into the black with Fade Out (2014 Image) #1 and  Delinquents (2014 Valiant) #1. Fade Out #1 is already sold out as I knew it would be. It’s a new story written by the awesome Ed Brubaker told in the noir style genre. Image Comics and Mr. Brubaker are possibly doing some foreshadowing with the release of the Fade Out #1 movie magazine sized variant, which also happens to be sold out. What does this all mean really? Nothing if the story doesn’t hold up or we get delays with the issue releases. Otherwise, there will be a quick spike in the aftermarket with this title. The magazine variant is an odd approach though. Will comic speculators embrace it? We will see. As for Delinquents #1, Valiant may have a home run on their hands here. The wildly popular Quantum and Woody team up with Archer and Armstrong. The comic right now is showing some nice sales and will eventually sell out. However, with that said, the new Valiant comics aren’t really a high priced turnover marketable seller. Maybe this comic will be a part of the scarce few that have made a bump in the aftermarket. A nice $50 variant sits out there. A big risk for the speculator here. The only way to possibly make a turnover on this comic would be to get it signature series graded. It must pull a 9.8 or higher to make any sort of money here. A higher risk than I personally would take. So the Fade Out #1 from Image Comics would be the better buy of the two here by a large margin. Do know this though; Delinquents #1 will be a stellar read.

Enormous from 215 Ink continues to do well. Enormous (2014) Ongoing #3 is sold out. That makes three sell outs in a row.

Little Nemo Return to Slumberland (2014 IDW) #1 looks like a winner from IDW as does Giant Robot Warrior Maintenance Crew (2014) #1 from Cosmic Times.

Here are the rest you should check out at your local comic shop this week; Dark Horse Presents (2014 3rd Series) #1, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014 IDW) Annual #1, Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman (2014) #1, Super Secret Crisis War Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (2014) #1, and Steampunk Battlestar Galactica 1880 (2014 Dynamite) #1.

The_New_Teen_Titans_16….And then there is Multiversity (2014 DC) #1. Legend Grant Morrison is at the helm here, teaming up with the top artist in the industry to bring us “the biggest adventure in DC history”.  While I personally was never a big fan of the convoluted superheroes from different universes within the Multiverse; Superman Earth 23, or Flash Earth 18, or Earth this or that, I can’t help but to peg one character that peeks my interest in this new comic. Captain Carrot. Yes that’s right. Supposedly Captain Carrot will get a makeover as we’d never expect. That to me sounds like fun! Not the bazillion different confusing heroes from all of these various places, but Captain Carrot! Let’s get the buzz going with The New Teen Titans #16 (1982), the first appearance of Captain Carrot written by legend Roy Thomas. Let the world know that InvestComics started the momentum, the demand for The New Teen Titans #16 and that we want more Captain Carrot!

Invest wisely.

As I end each and every week with the words “Carpe Diem”, condolences to the Robin Williams family. Even the ever growing and popular InvestComics Facebook Group page was named “Investing in Comic books 101 (IC Poet Society)”.  You were an obvious influence. You will be missed.

VALIANT to (re)introduce “WORLD’S WORST SUPERHERO TEAM”

It looks like the long (and I mean LOOOONG) awaited return of fan favorite characters QUANTUM AND WOODY is finally at hand! VALIANT released this teaser declaring, “The World’s Greatest Comic Book Company Presents… The World’s Worst Superhero Team.” And, as any avid Quantum and Woody fan knows, the pair’s title boasted “THE WORLD’S WORST SUPERHERO TEAM on its front covers, in a reverse of the Fantastic Four’s “World’s Greatest Comic Magazine” header.
