Top 5 Comic

Invincible Iron Man #600 – Huge millestone issue with 5 big surprises in store. Also a new villain arrives. A first appearance. What more can one ask for? Last Brian Michael Bendis Marvel comic ever! Well, never say never!
Batgirl #23 – Usually a variant comic cover does not crack the Top 5 list, but this Joshua Middleton variant is sold out and is by far the best variant cover of the year so far. Nothing has come close to this cover. Nothing.
Ricanstruction Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico – Comic book creator/publisher Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez of La Borinqueña decided he will not stand idle any longer. He’s created an anthology featuring some of the most iconic DC characters along side his creator owned La Borinqueña. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman and many others are joined with comic creators from across the industry (aisle); Gail Simone, Greg Pak, Reginald Hudlin, Denys Cowan, Tony Daniel, Ken Lashley, Bill Sienkiewicz, Yanick Paquette, Gabby Rivera, Will Rosado, Jorge Jimenez, Mike Allred, Chris Sotomayor, to Puerto Rican and Latinx celebrities like Rosario Dawson, Rubén Blades, Javier Muñoz, Sonia Manzano and over 100 more. This anthology not only brings the talent, but it brings hope. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to those in need in Puerto Rico. Buy this anthology, enjoy the words and pictures. After you’re done with it, know that you did something good for a family in need. Do not lend your copy out, ask that your family and friends buy this book too.
Champions #20 – First appearance alert. Introducing ‘Snowguard’.
Infinity Countdown Darkhawk #1 – Marvel pushes for the Darkhawk character to be the next big thing. Like 1991 all over again.

Since the extraordinary bank the Black Panther movie has made, for some reason Marvel Comics feels as though this will equate to booming Black Panther comic book sales too. Has no one realized yet that the movies do not really coincide with the comics as far as sales go? The only ‘bump’ the comics get regarding a film is when the speculators think they have the next holy grail (first appearance or major plot line arc), only to be stuck with it because some yo-yo’s are stating it’ll be ‘worth lots of money!’.  This all said, a new Black Panther #1 will hit on Wednesday with lots of variants (too many). Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates returns to this restart as he wrote the previous arc of Black Panther. Why not just continue with the numbering and label it ‘new arc/new direction’? Makes no sense at all. But it makes sense when you’re trying to grab a new audience, new readers, new speculators. It does make sense to that capacity, but not to the norm of things. The drowning of number one comics for no necessary reason or the variant covers are absolutely astounding these days. One of the many reasons this particular website switched over years ago and finally implemented our new direction. See HERE if you’re not too sure what’s up. Yes, the new Black Panther will trend for a little bit, but things will settle down, like history has taught us regarding this character. Always a great character and read when it comes to Ta-Nehisi and always great eye candy too with Daniel Acuna at the helm.

Thanos #16 – Third Print

Brian Michael Bendis writes his last comic book for Marvel; Invincible Iron Man #600. Marvel Comic creators, sending their well wishes on social media. Nothing but nice things to say. Unlike the some idiotic fanboys with no lives that spout their venom. Didn’t momma teach you, nothing nice to say…..Anyway, the last Bendis book will mark the end of an era with Marvel for Brian. It was a speculator run and he’ll be going out with a bang according to Marvel. ‘5 HUGE surprises’ await readers. One of the best non-surprise is a new villain will be introduced. So, this comic will trend the socials for a bit as fans will be talking about it and posting. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
MORE hunting for Wolverine this week; Hunt For Wolverine The Mystery In Madripoor #1. Writer Jim Zub and artist Chris Bachalo. When will this hunt be over? Every week people are looking for him. Hence the Todd Nauck variant cover. It kinds of sums it up. “Where’s Wolverine?”

Last appearing in 2016’s Captain America: Sam Wilson #11, then appearing in Darkhawk #51 earlier this year, Darkhawk is on his way back. Despite only making about 11 appearances since 2011 till now, the aftermarket appreciates this class c character a bit. Well it REALLY did back in early 2017 when an action figure came out with the name ‘Guardians of The Galaxy’ on the package. It did NOT have VOL 2 on the package, which if it did, would have meant it’s from the VOL 2 movie! Duh! Once again, speculative websites (not InvestComics at the time!) went batty over this and drove the original Darkhawk #1 (1991 first appearance) off the charts on eBay. Only to have the director of GOTG2, James Gunn, settle things down regarding the article(s) themselves with “…I think it was not very well thought out…”. Embarrassing for websites, the speculators and for the poor sap that paid lots and lots of money for a Darkhawk #1. But, the Darkhawk #1 speculative market holds on eBay as raw copies range within the $8 to $19 range. A graded 9.8 copy sold for $140 on May 5th. A 9.6 sold for $66. Not as many graded copies sold as when the ridiculous rumor came out. The speculative market hopes to be right eventually, so prices hold steady for now…until the silliness subsides, and everyone wakes up a bit. Maybe the new release; Infinity Countdown Darkhawk #1 (Chris Sims, Chad Bowers, Lim, Gang Hyuk) will jumpstart things once again for the Darkhawk character. Who knows??
Legion #5 introduces ‘Bessie Doll’.
A new character will be introduced in Champions #20; ‘Snowguard’.
Moon Knight #195 introduces ‘The Collective’.
The Thanos #16 third printing sideways cover from Geoff Shaw rocks.

Batgirl #23 is sold out. Because of a major storyline? No. An introduction of a new character? No. A death of a character? No. A new bad as* creative team? No. A Deadpool or Venom appearance? No, no and impossible. The Joshua Middleton variant is actually sold out. The cover is superb, gorgeous, beautiful, and there are simply not enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe this one. Trending comic cover of the year so far.
Scooby Doo Team-Up #38 will feature Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. While this is not a big deal at all, this will be Blue Falcon and Dynomutt’s last appearance as ‘Hanna Barbara’ type characters before their new ‘ultra-modern’ revamp look in Super Sons/Dyno-Mutt Special #1 on May 30. Although their Hanna Barbara ‘look’ may continue, this is the last old before the new…..and then back to the old again (maybe). Either way, the NEW revamp cover(?) from Fernando Pasarin looks special. And for those keeping score at home. Blue Falcon and Dynomutt first appeared in Scooby-Doo #1 in 1977.

Trending Pop Culture Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Urban Legends #1 will reprint all of the Image Comics’ run (Volume 3) in color. This issue features an Erik Larsen cover. That in itself is very enticing. We’re team Larsen.
Putting your political affiliation and politics aside, Puerto Rico is still reeling after the devastating hurricane Irma ripped through there in September of 2017. Many are still left without power, food and water. Comic book creator/publisher Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez of La Borinqueña decided he will not stand idle any longer. He’s created an anthology; Ricanstruction Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico. Featuring some of the most iconic DC characters along side his creator owned La Borinqueña. It’s no secret that InvestComics has informed comic readers time and time again that writer Charles Soule is bringing the Daredevil character to a new place in storytelling. This week Daredevil #28 promises to rock your world on the last page. We wait with bated breath. Ron Garney illustrates. Ron too….Ron too. Man these guys are fantastic.
It’s Thanos vs his son Thane in Thanos #12. The finale.
A NEW Thor story that does not star Jane Foster as Thor. The original Thor makes it into a new comic book. Thor: Where Walk the Frost Giants #1. Creators Ralph Macchio and Todd Nauck.

Buy/Bid – Silver Surfer #14

Buy/Bid – Marvel Boy #1

Keep an eye out on all of the new Marvel Legacy books. A lot of first appearances popping up and one is bound to break out. Amazing Spider-Man #790 may have a first appearance, so check that one out.
Captain Marvel #125 reveals the secret origin of Carol Danvers. Great Dan Mora Hulk homage cover too.
Marvel Comics solicits America #8 as the first appearance of Exterminatrix. Hmmm….that isn’t right. Maybe it’s the NEW version of this character. Exterminatrix first appeared in Marvel Boy #1 in 2000. This book was written by Grant Morrison. Art by J.G. Jones. That’s some creativity fire power there. America #8 from creators Gabby Rivera and Joe Quinones.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #24 features an appearance of the X-Babies team. It’s been two years since we last saw them together. The last time we saw them together was in Giant-Size Little Marvel: AvX #4. Guess who the writer, artist and cover artist was for that issue……yep, Skottie Young.

Jughead Hunger May 2017

Buy/Bid – Suicide Squad #28

Buy/Bid – Jughead Hunger #1

Buy/Bid – Gotham City #2

Buy/Bid – House of Horror #1

Suicide Squad #28 will bring back two long lost DC characters.
As already said here, the new Gotham City Garage comics will be a direct take from the DC Collectible statue line. Keep close to this series as we could see an introduction or two of a new character. Gotham City Garage #2 will be here Wednesday.

DC Comics releases a horror comic, just in time for Halloween, from a plethora of comic creators; DC House of Horror #1.
The Ruff & Reddy Show #1 comic looks as though it’s more of an adult themed take on the two Hanna Barbara characters. Ruff & Reddy were first introduced into the comic book world back in 1958’s Four Color Comics #937. The current series will be written by legend Howard Chaykin and drawn by Mac Rey. Should be a good read with good visuals.

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks;
Writer Frank Tieri and artist Michael Walsh return to their hit Jughead Hunger one shot they were a part of back in May. That book sold out, quick. Not only will this creative team be coming back, Jughead: The Hunger #1 will be a regular ongoing. Yes They’ll bring it and Frank will do it his way. Not Sinatra, Tieri. He’ll do it…..never mind. InvestComics is team Tieri. Always. Brooklyn sticks together.
Keep a close eye on Spawn #279 as it teases the ‘evolution’ of a new character.
Hack/Slash: Resurrection #1. Creators Tini Howard, K. Michael Russel and Celor.
The follow up to the sold out number one issue; Gasolina #2 hits.

Scare Tactics #7

Santa vs Dracula

Mazscara

Gasolina #2

Eternity #1

Ash AOD #4

Buy/Bid – Sink #2 – JOCK

InvestComics usually reserves comment on a comic cover because it’ll probably end up in our ‘Best Comic Covers Of The Week’ post. Unless we feel it deserves a mention here because it’s that intriguing. Artist Pasquale Qualano pays homage to Todd McFarlane with his cover; Ash vs The Army of Darkness #4. Many artist have swiped the Amazing Spider-Man #316 cover, but we just wanted to point this one out. Okay one more cover to mention, Silver Surfer #14, Jack Kirby cover. It looks as though it’s on its way to a sell out too.
One of InvestComics’ favorite publishers graces fans with a great ‘fight comic’ this week. Check out Scout Comics’ Santa vs. Dracula. Tis the Halloween/Christmas season! Creators Ed Power and Melissa Dejesus. Also, Solar Flare, Season 2 #1; James Haick III and Branko Jovanovic.
Valiant introduces new worlds, new characters, new origins and more in Eternity #1. Creators Matt Kindt and Trevor Hairsine.
Heavy Metal releases three number one comics this Wednesday. Taarna will make her comic book debut after first appearing forty years ago in Heavy Metal Magazine #284. What took so long? Taarna #1 from creators Alex De Campi and Stephane Roux. Alex Ross covers. Eddie, from the heavy metal band Iron Maiden makes his comic book debut in Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast #1. Well, it’s sort of his debut. DC Comics featured ‘Iron Maiden’ in Scare Tactics #7 (1997). They never referred to Iron Maiden as ‘Eddie’, so yes/no on that first appearance. Look for Eddie and Taarna to continue their comic book lives after their debuts. Also from Heavy Metal; 1985: Black Hole Repo #1, creators Michael Moreci and Seth Sherwood.
Click on the RED links, Images or the comic cover to buy/bid from All available sellers on Ebay.
Comix Tribe follows up their sold-out Sink #1. Sink #2 from John Lees, Alex Cormack and Ryan Lee. The Steven Wilcox JOCK homage cover is red hot right now in the aftermarket.
Sugar Boogarz #1 (Cosmic Times); Michael Duron. This comic could be on delay this week.
Mazscara #1 (Red Anvil); Gary T. Becks.
Gao #1 (Antarctic Press); Alfred Perez.
No Room For Magic #1 (Keenspot); Adrian Ramos.

Fans of Image Comics’ Black Magick will be introduced to a new character in Black Magick #3.
The Wytches comic series from Snyder and Jock was a hit. It still has potential to be a bigger hit given the extra interest from a studio eventually. Whether it’s a movie or television, Wytches has that feel that someday it will be bigger, much bigger. This week, Image Comics will feature a black and white pencil only from Wytches #1 in an oversized format of 11×17. This amazing format and eye candy will be called Image Giant-Sized Artists Proof Edition Wytches #1. A must get for comic collectors and fans alike.
Spawn will face his greatest adversary that he never faced before! Yep. In Spawn #259, The Satan Saga Wars begins. The title of this event pretty much sums up who Spawn will be facing off against for the very first time ever. Satan. The Todd McFarlane cover is great, as is the Erik Larsen/Todd McFarlane cover. Spawn fights Satan, this is gonna be good.

NOTE. Please understand that when InvestComics releases the Hot Picks article on Friday that many of the independent comics may not be available on Ebay yet. Most of the time, some of the more obscure titles make their way onto Ebay later on in the week or right on/at/before new comic book day on Wednesday. Be sure to check back and click the links or cover(s) to see if the books you want have been listed on Ebay. They usually show up, so be sure to check back!

Who are the Four Sisters? Find out in All-New Wolverine #3. And that Mike Choi variant is nice.
Mr. Negative will be causing all sorts of problems for Spidey in Amazing Spider-Man #6. Did you know that Mr. Negative first appeared in Free Comic Book Day 2007 Spider-Man comic? Now you know!
Two stellar covers for the new Carnage comic this Wednesday has to be mentioned here. The eye candy from Carnage #3 features covers from Mike Deodato and Yasmine Putri. Fantastic.
Marvel goes back to the well this week with Deadpool And Cable Split Second #1. Back in 2004, it was Cable who got first billing in the monthly comic; Cable and Deadpool. That series lasted 50 issues. Times have changed and the money is with Deadpool these days, so the Merc gets first billing now. Did you know that Cable first appeared with Deadpool in New Mutants #98 (1991). Maybe you heard of that issue? Anyway, Rob Liefled had an obvious hand in creating these characters so it’s natural we would get a variant for the new title from him. Seeing that fight cover from Rob, it brought us back to our favorite fight cover; New Mutants #93 (1990). Rob had Wolverine all over Cable on that one. Fun times, fun comics.
While we’re on topic about Rob, he creates the variant cover for Howard The Duck #3 with Gwenpool on the cover. A $60 retail variant. Yikes that is a bit steep! A very very nice variant from Rob nonetheless.
Marvel (Disney) will continue to milk the Star Wars franchise. Nothing wrong with that really. Disney is in business to make money and they are producing a good product, not crap. Check out another new Star Wars comic; Obi-Wan And Anakin #1 this Wednesday. Lots of variants to choose from.
Rocket Raccoon and Groot #1 should be all kinds of a fun read. That Todd Nauck Deadpool Incentive variant is neat.

Legendary Writer Chris Claremont Returns for NIGHTCRAWLER #1!

This April, an X-Men legend returns. Prolific and iconic X-Men writer Chris Claremont teams with fan favorite artist Todd Nauck for NIGHTCRAWLER #1 – an all-new ongoing series starring the one and only fuzzy blue elf!

“He’s smart, tough, creative and daring, with an instinctive understanding of people and situations. He has a wicked sense of humor and a devastating charm,” says Claremont, in an interview with Marvel.com. ”His ‘normal’ is revolutionary to most people; throw him a problem, he’ll find a way to solve it that’s unique to him. He quite simply is the kind of man others trust; to know him is to have faith in him.”

“Nightcrawler has been one of my all-time favorite X-Men,” says artist Todd Nauck. “He’s a fun, cool character and he’s easy to care about. He’s a guy you root for.”

When Nightcrawler sacrificed his life to protect mutantkind, a hole was left in the X-Men’s ranks that has never been filled. Now, with his recent resurrection in the pages of Amazing X-Men, the world Kurt Wagner left behind has changed. Charles Xavier is dead. Scott Summers leads the mutant revolution as a fugitive. Wolverine guides the mutants of tomorrow at the Jean Grey School for higher learning. Deep schisms divide the X-Men, and his closest friends now find themselves bitter enemies.

Where will he go? What will he do? Don’t miss the start of a brand new adventure as Nightcrawler and Chris Claremont make their triumphant return to the X-Men fold for NIGHTCRAWLER #1 – bamfing its way into comic shops this April!

HESTER and NAUCK to helm ongoing INVINCIBLE Spin-Off, GUARDING THE GLOBE

THE GLOBE’S NEW GUARDIANS
Robert Kirkman’s series returns as ongoing with new creative team

The miniseries that spun out of Robert Kirkman’s original INVINCIBLE universe, GUARDING THE GLOBE, will be back in September as an ongoing series from Skybound/Image Comics.

Phil Hester, just coming off a successful run on THE DARKNESS, will be taking over writing duties from Kirkman and artist Todd Nauck (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, YOUNG JUSTICE) will be handling all the art of the ongoing series beginning with issue #1.

Months before it hits the shelves again, fans will be given a taste of what’s to come from the new creative team on Free Comic Book Day, May 5th.

“The Invincible Universe has outgrown its parent title and I’m very excited about being able to tell larger, more in depth stories with some of the key players from that book in this series,” said GUARDING THE GLOBE creator/writer Robert Kirkman, “Phil Hester and Todd Nauck are well known to fans of superhero comics and I think people are fully aware that they’re going to knock this book out of the park.”

Familiar yet fresh, GUARDING THE GLOBE will appeal to fans of the back-to-basics approach to superhero comics that INVINCIBLE is known for. Heroes both familiar and new struggle to protect Earth in Invincible’s absence. As the Viltrumite War rages on within the pages of INVINCIBLE, the ranks of the Guardians of the Globe are suddenly depleted. The world is in danger, and the team is in search of new blood.

Hester and Nauck have described the first issue of the GUARDING THE GLOBE ongoing as a perfect starting point for those that haven’t read any of the series before.

“When Robert first approached me about this ongoing series, I knew I wanted to be a part of GUARDING THE GLOBE,” said Nauck, whose creator-owned series WILDGUARD was published by Image. “I really respect what Robert’s accomplished so far with the series and I’m having a blast drawing this book. I feel it’s my best work to date. It’s great to be working with Image Comics again!”

“When Robert floated the idea it didn’t take me very long to say yes,” added Hester. “The characters in GUARDING THE GLOBE have the same kind of freshness INVINCIBLE does. It’s a great chance to both pay homage to super heroes and upend them a bit in way that isn’t cynical, but humanizing.”

Each 32-page full-color issue will be available for purchase and reorder in comic book stores and on multiple digital platforms.

ABOUT ROBERT KIRKMAN Robert Kirkman’s success and passionate advocacy for creator-owned comics led him to become the first person invited to become a partner at Image Comics since the company’s inception twenty years ago and he formed his own imprint there, Skybound, in 2010. Kirkman is the creator/writer of the Eisner Award-winning The Walking Dead, long-running Invincible, all-ages Super Dinosaur, The Astounding Wolf-Man, and new title Thief of Thieves, among many others. Kirkman has earned the respect of the comic, writing and television communities and topped the New York Times bestseller list for graphic novels in 2011 and in April 2012, he took the top five spots on both the hardcover and paperback lists. He’s the creator/executive producer and writer of the hit television show, AMC’s The Walking Dead, the highest-rated basic cable drama of all time in the U.S, also an international success in 120 countries and 250 million households. AMC just picked up Thief of Thieves as a series with Kirkman serving as creator/executive producer and writer. www.Skybound.com is your destination for all news and merchandise for Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead and all Skybound titles.
