Before moving on here. A reminder as we have mentioned so many times in the past here on InvestComics. Just because a comic is sold out does not mean there will be monetary gains to be had. At the end of the day, the sold out comic must bring something tangible to the table. Besides the obvious first appearance factor for a speculative book, It must bring a buzz/interest for fans to come back to buy more. Publishers have the responsibility to provide an on time comic to sustain that interest and buzz. If the comic comes out on time and the buzz sustains and the interest is there, it’s a mix for possible success within the aftermarket. A sold out comic does not mean aftermarket success. Many factors go into why a comic does well for speculators after its release. Know the guidelines, follow InvestComics to give you the scoops all the time on how to watch for these things. Another reason is the release count. This plays a huge part in the process as well. Too many copies make for a watered down product, thus affecting your bottom line. See, many factors. Stick around here as you do, you’ll learn the real factors as to why things do what they do in the market. We are the number one comic book speculation website for a reason. And thanks to all of you of course. So let’s move along shall we?

Brian K. Vaughan’s latest book will be hitting today; We Stand on Guard #1 (Image Comics). InvestComics thought what a fantastic time to get a creator list together from this amazingly talented writer!

Cable #43 (1997) Early professional comic work (Marvel). Brian teams with Todd Dezago on writing duties.

Ka-Zar 97 Annual (1997) First solo writing credits.

Wolverine #131 (1998) In Brian’s young comic career, the comic industry was turned upside on its head. A racial slur typo was immediately recalled as this became one of the most prolific error comics in history for all the wrong reasons. Vaughan/Dezago writing credits.

Vertigo Winter’s Edge #3 (2000) Here is Vaughan’s first DC (Vertigo) work. A Swamp Thing story.

The Titans #14 (2000) The first time Brian handles the superhero genre for DC Comics. Writing credits with Devin Kallie Grayson.

Swamp Thing #1 (2000) As series writer, Vaughan actually made the Swamp Thing an interesting deep character. If and when Swamp Thing finally comes to Netflix/network television or film, the producers will probably look right here for reference. The series lasted only 20 issues. A very interesting title for the last issue in this series (Swamp Thing #20); Saga. The title is right on the cover too. So technically, this is the first time the name Vaughan and Saga appear together on a cover. In the grand scheme of things. means absolutely nothing, but pretty cool nonetheless.

Wonder Woman #160 (2000) Brian writes two issues of Wonder Woman. This one and the following issue. Both have Adam Hughes covers.

Superman Annual #12 (2000) When writing the main story in this Superman annual, readers are introduced to Iman, El Muerto, and Acrata. And the Iman character resembles the new bunny robot Batman.

Batman #588 (2001) The start of a 3 part story line. First Batman book story.

Cyclops #1 (2001) A four part mini-series written by Vaughan. Mark Texeira art, Jimmy Palmiotti inks, and covers.

Y: The Last Man #1 (2002) Critically acclaimed. Here is the series that put Brian K Vaughan on mind of just about every comic fan on the planet. Y: The Last Man was one of the most prolific comic book runs in recent times. An absolute gem of a series. Click HERE to get an Ebay listing of all the issues available. J.G. Jones supplied many of the covers at the beginning of the series.

Hot Picks based on new comics coming this Wednesday 7/1/15

We Stand On Guard #1 – A new Brian K Vaughan offering. The concept; U.S. invades Canada on foot and with big robots!

Grant Morrison’s 18 Days #1 – All four covers (including regular) are sold out. Looks like the great Grant Morrison has a hit on his hands.

Onyx #1 – The new IDW sci-fi book, written by Chris Ryall is sold out.

Mickey Mouse #1 – Another IDW number one issue, sold out. This time it’s Mickey!

Groot #2 –  (verbage from the InvestComics Hot Picks #378) will have special guest star and an awesome jam cover by Declan Shalvey. The Francesco Francavilla variant is way cool too. Watch for Groot to possibly branch out (yep yep) over the years. He already has become a fan favorite in the theaters. A solo Groot short film, Netflix film, cartoon, is not that far out of the realm.

A very light week compared to the busy ones we’ve had for a long stretch there. Perfect time to catch up on those back issues you’ve been looking for. Go through those boxes at your local shop, there are probably a few gems sitting in there.

The biggest book to look out for this week has to be We Stand On Guard #1 (Image Comics). Not only will it probably be a fantastic read, but it’s written by Brian K. Vaughan. This deals with the invasion of Canada by the United States. Invasion with big robots. How much fun is this going to be? Lots! One key element pertaining to the speculative side that makes this comic very attractive is the no variant aspect to it. Just one cover release (as of right now) and this makes for less clutter in the market, thus making this comic a probable sell out more attractive.

Grant Morrison will have a creator owned book this Wednesday; Grant Morrison’s 18 Days #1 (Graphic India). All of the variant covers are limited to 1000 copies each and are sold out already. The regular cover is sold out too. You better grab this off the shelf if you want a copy, once they’re gone, they’re gone.

New Star Wars comics coming this Wednesday, Darth Vader #7 and Princess Leia #5. Buy any of the new Star Wars comics. The stories are great and for the possible speculative side as well. New movie will be hitting in December, who knows what possible character or villain could appear in the comic before the movie.

IDW publishing has a couple of books to look out this week. Onyx #1, a new sci-fi book from Chris Ryall with a very nice limited SDCC variant. And the new Mickey Mouse #1. Regular cover and variant sold out.

As InvestComics has matured over the years, it’s not very often that a book like Barb Wire #1 (Dark Horse) gets a mention. But when it’s Adam Hughes supplying the covers, well it has to be mentioned. Especially when the regular cover blows away the variant cover.
