InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 4/9/14

The hottest pick of the week at the end of this abbreviated article, but for now……..

The variant cover absurdity continues this week with Daredevil volume 4 #1.50. And what’s with the numbering here too? Can we stop with this already? Oh yeah and the number of variants for this “landmark issue” is 8. Ridiculous…..stop already.

Moving right along……

With the announcement a couple of months ago, Iron Fist on Netflix will certainly spark the back issue market for the character. It already has, but it will continue for a while. Iron Fist has always been one of those underground fan fav’s, like a Moon Knight! Now Marvel will regurgitate Iron Fist until you cannot breathe anymore. We all know how Marvel can overuse a character right? Look around, you’re going to see more Rocket Raccoon than you have in the last 25 years. Iron Fist Living Weapon (2014) #1 will do well and renew the interest once again. What the speculator really needs to be focused on is Marvel Premiere #15 (1974). Iron Fist’ first appearance.  This classic comic needs to already have a home in your collection or find one!

Staying on topic with comics that will definitely pay dividends, I bring you All New Ultimates (2014) #1. No, All New Ultimates #1 will not bring any sort of turnover at all. It’s two teammates that appear in the book that will. Cloak & Dagger have been covered on InvestComics quite often and here we go again! Buy the first appearance of Cloak & Dagger in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #64 (1982). You will not regret it. These two characters are bound to breakout eventually. Be it a television show or a movie appearance. It will happen.

Want to witness a couple of comics go from extremely hot to extremely cool in very little time? Check out Chris Claremont’s Nightcrawler (2014 4th Series) #1. Yeah, it’ll be very hot out of the gate then fall flat on its face. Not saying it won’t be an awesome comic to pick up at your local shop, but do not “bank” on anything from the aftermarket with this one. The same rings true for All New Doop (2014) #1. There is a reason Doop’s first appearance from 2001’s X-Force #116 sold on Ebay recently for as low as 99 cents. Not much of a future in uptick value for this first appearance.

Readers will be delighted to open up Mighty Avengers (2013) #9 this Wednesday. We finally find out who is behind the Ronin mask.

Iron Man throws on a “very special” Iron Man suit this Wednesday in Iron Man (2012 5th Series) #24. Is it the Hulkbuster?? Check out the comic and find out.

DC Comics rides the Scott Snyder/Batman gravy train with the release of Batman Eternal (2014) #1. This comic will see a second print very soon.

Lola XOXO (2014) #1 from Aspen Entertainment looks like a cool book to check out. And THE comic to get this week is……Shutter (2014 Image) #1. On writing duties will be Joe Keatinge. Along with Image Comics “first official work” by artist Leila Del Duca will bring this comic to definite sellout status. Although the first published work from Leila came in January of this year in Image Expo Preview Book: I Is For Image. Just a heads up for those keeping score at home!

That’s it for this week. See you soon.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.
