InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 11-24-10

AlphaFlight1_1983Canada’s First Super Team takes Flight this week on InvestComics. Plus check out some more picks this week!

Chaos War Alpha Flight #1 will propel Canada’s team into their own series down the line eventually. Marvel will get the outcry for a new series, and they will respond. Alpha Flight has always been a favorite amongst fans. Look for the first appearance before Marvel picks up the ball again on this team. The first appearance would be found in Uncanny X-Men 120 (1979). Comics Price has this listed at only $100! A very nice bargain! Also check out John Byrne’s classic run on the self titled series beginning with Alpha Flight #1 from 1983. This comic was once the hottest number one issue of all the land back in the 80’s. Get this comic for only $4 today.

Eric Masterson makes his way back to a number one issue in Thunderstrike #1. Check out his first appearance from 1988 in Thor #391. This comic is only $3. Don’t look for the market to reach new heights with this comic. Just a decent first appearance in a Thor book.

The gimmick machine hits this week, and it looks like X-Men #4 second print would be guilty of this. A cool looking sideways cover. Anyone who is a bi-product of the 90’s immediately thinks of Rob Liefeld as the first guy to do the sideways cover and interior art. Wrong! Looks  like John Byrne beats most to the punch with his 1983 Fantastic Four #252. Coming in at only $6, this isn’t bad for a “first” gimmick comic done by a legend. Buy it, enjoy it, save it.

Speaking of gimmicks, isn’t that Captain America #612 TRON cover awesome?!?

Plenty of number one issues to choose from this week. Here are a few you should check out…

Astonishing Thor #1, Archaia’s Cyclops #1, Stan Lee’s The Traveler, Vampirella #1, and InvestComics sleeper number one book of the week is……Yonchi #1. Yep!

Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man  reaches a milestone. Issue #150 will have guest galore filling in to celebrate the momentous  occasion.

Detective Comics #871 get a new creator team on board.Scott Snyder and JOCK!

That’s it for this week. Happy Thanksgiving! Invest wisely.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 11-17-10

fp111710Death is everywhere, first appearances, and girls top the InvestComics Comic Hot Picks list this week.

Chaos War: Dead Avengers #1. A morbid title, but fun nonetheless! Lets take a quick look at some of the books headed your way on 11/17/10.

Death or last appearances of SOME of the “death characters” appearing in the new Avengers mini.

Swordman “died” in Giant Size Avengers #2 (1974) $26

Deathcry “died” in Annihilation Conquest Starlord #2 (2007) $3

Vision “died” in Avengers #500 (2004) $6

Captain Marvel “died” in Marvel Graphic Novel (no number) Death of Captain Marvel from legend Jim Starlin (1984) $26. This is the best of the “death” bunch as far as your collection is concerned. It’s a monumental issue from one of the industry’s most talented creators Jim Starlin. Nuff said.

Girls are another focal point this week. Well……they’re always a focal point, but lets save that conversation for another day. Check out the new Anya Corazon series, aka Amazing Spider-Girl #1. Her first appearance was back in 2004 in Amazing Fantasy #1 ($3). Tim Seeley’s Hack/Slash will be showcasing some talents from the industry to benefit anyone that has not gotten paid (stiffed) for their work. Buy Hack/Slash Trailers Part 2 to support the cause! Powergirl fights a new female adversary in Powergirl #18.

Batman delivers 2 books this week. Batman Inc #1 and the Batman the Return #1. That “blacked out” cover is quite annoying, but another couple of days isn’t going to kill us. Right?

Justice League of America #51 introduces a new villian, the very hot Superior series continues, Osborn gets his own comic, and not quite sure what to make of the Nightmaster: Monsters of Rock #1. And don’t forget to check out Mad Special: Spy vs Spy #1 for some Mad magazine crazy fun!

See you next week, Invest wisely.

InvestComics Comic Hot Picks 11-10-10

amazspm648_VarintcoverbyJScottCampbellSpider-Man headlines this weeks Comic Hot Picks. Look inside for more picks!

It looks like another “new beginning” for the Amazing Spider-Man. So many over the years, it’s hard to keep up with how many times Peter has endured a “life changing” event in his life in the past few years. Every issue’s solicit read something like this “This is it fans! NOTHING WILL BE THE SAME!” Okay so we’ll all buy into it once again here with Amazing Spider-Man #648. Not so much for the reason that life altering events are taking place, but for the reason that new characters are being introduced. This reason is the only reason to buy this comic as far as collecting value goes.

greenlantern_emeraldWarriors4_variantAnd speaking of new characters, a new villain makes their way to Green Lantern Emerald Warriors #4. That’s always a great read, and nothing like having new blood entering the fray. Also, check out that very nice Variant from Kevin Maguire…..or is that Felipe Massafera? Either way, nice variant!

Six number one issues make the Comic Hot Picks list this week. 2 of which will probably be sleeper hits, G.I. Joe Future Noir special #1 and Image Comics Halcyon #1. Look for the Halcyon #1 issue to be sold out quickly. Another interesting book is Monster Hunters Survival Guide #1. Great Greg Horn cover for this one. Marvel has a couple of number one issues coming this week. Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes #1 and the very cool looking Chaos War Thor #1.

The last number one issue comes in the form of one of the longest acronyms in comics. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #1. Want to know what that stands for? Google it. It comes right up! This group first appeared from the awesome work of Wally Wood back in 1967. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #1 from 1967 was their first appearance. Comics Price Guide list this book at only $300. This is a fantastic buy for a 1967 first appearance comic from Wally Wood.

InvestComics Hot Picks – Spidey Comics

BC11810Check out this Spidey friendly edition of Topher Seal’s Brokers Corner! Plus more!

As I am still preparing my largest article to date I offer you all these wonderful comics to pester your local dealer for while you wait.

Amazing Spider-Man 430, 431

Carnage is back in a big way this month. The new series features three variant covers that are sure to be hot on the back issue market. Carnage has been around a while but there are few appearances of any rarity or value. These two issue are the exception. Low print runs and a decline in popularity during this time make them worth the investment at ten bucks or less in NM.

Next Men Faith TPB

John Byrne’s Next Men is coming back and boy is that good news. One of the best team books of its time, Byrne’s epic deserves to bee in your collection. Most issues are cheap on the back issue market with one obvious rare issue

(featuring the first full color Hellboy). That issue was reprinted in the Next men Faith TPB and it’s quite rare!

Disney Adventures 13 (Darkwing Duck)

Darkwing is hot again with a new series and technically his first comic appearance is in Darkwing Duck #1 but this Disney Mag was released in the same month and is harder to find than the first issue of the mini-series from 1991.

WildC.A.T.S. Trilogy Ashcan

Predating Deathmate Black (and the gold  variant) this Image ashcan is the true first appearance of Gen-13! Limited to 3000 copies.

Marvel Team-Up 141 (Mark Jeweler variant)

On occasion I will be suggesting a MJ variant to you. These variants were regional, military variant distributed across the country. Many are very rare so keep an eye out. This is one of my favorites and I project its value to skyrocket when the next Spider-man or Venom films are released. This issue is the second appearance of Spider-man is the black costume.

(in a Spider-man Series).

Spectacular Spider-Man 90

This book was also published along with Marvel Team-Up 141 and Amazing Spider-Man 252. It is the first appearance of Spidey in his new black costume in the Spectacular title.

Hulk 6

Oddball characters often inspire me to make an investment purchase. In this case the first appearance of Blue hulk was just something I couldn’t pass up. The Hulk has been blue before, once when he assumed the powers of Captain Universe and in his 1998 Annual but those forms do not represent the true blue Hulk. The real one may only be in one panel but I hope we all end up seeing more of him down the line.

DC Comics presents 27

Finally the villain Mongul is seeing a price increase of all his appearances.  This one being the first should get the most attention.  Down the road this book could see dramatic movement so I recommend searching for one immediately.  Mongul has been a major player in recent years and should not be over looked.

Amazing Spider-Man #647 will bring the “Brand New Day” story to a close. What will be the end game with this storyline? We wait with anticipation! Speaking of anticipation, one of Marvel’s baddest villains has his own number issue coming out this week. Check out Bullseye: Perfect Game #1 from the awesome team of  Charlie Huston, Shawn Martinbrough, and Tim Bradstreet. Bullseye’s first appearance came back in 1976 in Daredevil #131. This will only set you back $120 if you want it. A very popular but underrated villain from the Daredevil gallery for $120 is a bargain. Look for the Perfect Game book to have a good Wednesday, especially from a creative team as good as it gets.
A new X team book will be arriving, and you should check it out. Generation Hope #1 will be a quick sellout, so get your copy quick if you don’t feel like reading a second print.
DC’s extra sized Batman Confidential #50 brings Jerry Bingham back to a Batman book since 2006. Jerry did the Batman: Son of the Demon book. If you to check out Jerry Bingham’s Demon book, it’ll only cost you $6. Superboy goes for his fourth go around with Superboy Vol 4 #1. Look for this series to start off very hot like the previous 3 did. And finally, The Boys #48 pays some nice homage to Miller’s Dark Knight.
