10 For the Pros

Chris Noeth – Artist/Art Director

1aaa10ftpCN11. What are you working on (creatively) right now?

(CN) I’m the art director at Rough Sea Games (http://blog.rough-sea.com) where I’m working on a great new game which will be out soon. In my spare time I’m working on Maya, my first creator owned comic series about a young girl with superpowers. I had to take break because of my game related work but will continue Maya’s story soon. Maya can be read online at www.MayaComic.com as a weekly webcomic before it gets printed.

2. If you could have 1 superpower, what would it be?

(CN) I would love to live forever but because this is not a ‘real’ superpower and belongs more in the vampire genre I have to answer this one with Flying. It would be awesome to fly around 

1aaa10ftpCN23. Do you have a routine that you follow before or during work?

(CN) The only thing which is the same each day is, when I’m working at home, I spend my breaks with my family… but that’s not a routine. I can’t think of anything which is… maybe checking my emails before starting with work or drinking a can of coffee each afternoon.

4. Who is your favorite creator to work with?

(CN) Regarding my comic work it’s Bill Nichols (from Sketch Magazine). He is proofreading Maya and a really great guy who loves comics. Check out his site at http://www.comicsmentor.com… it’s awesome!

5. In your opinion, do you feel that the movie industry is doing a good
job with the Comic Book movies?

1aaa10ftpCN3(CN) The best comic movie for me still is Superman – The Movie. That one is the only one I would describe as great, but I enjoy most of the new movies also. I liked Spiderman 2, X2, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Watchmen, Hellboy and even Catwoman. They are fun to watch but I’m still waiting for another comic movie like Superman – The Movie… something with real emotion and magic moments. Maybe some day someone will make a Maya movie with magic and emotion… that would be great 😉

6. What comic book hero/villain do you want to see on screen?

(CN) Beside Maya I would love to see a real Punisher movie. The last two were awefull. The one with Thomas Jane was okay to watch but it wasn’t the Punisher. What I would love to see also is a faithful adaptation of Preacher. Right now I’m happy because they are filming one of my favorite comics: The Walking Dead. It will be a Tv-series and after reading about it, it really seems like they do it right. I can’t wait to see it.

7. Which part of your job do you find most stressful?

(CN) Are you kidding? My job is the best job in the world. I have more stress in my spare time 🙂
Okay… to be honest: Deadlines. Some things need more time… but often it’s time you don’t have.

1aaa10ftpCN58. What does the future hold for Chris Noeth?

(CN) I just want to work on great games at Rough Sea Games and continue creating Maya in my spare time.

9. What advice could you give for a creator trying to break into the industry?

(CN) Start right now doing your own comics and show them online. Spread the word, use the new technologies and learn from the feedback you get. If your work is good the right people will contact you sooner or later. Never stop learning!

10. “My best Investment in life was…….”

(CN) Regarding my art career it was buying How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way as a teenager. It was the moment things started to connect and I saw what I wanted to do for a living.

Have anything you’d like to plug

(CN) Please follow Maya at www.MayaComic.com and write some comments. I really would love to get some feedback on the pages so far. And don’t forget to order the comic trade “It Came From Beneath The Sea… Again!”, the comic sequel to the 1955 monster horrormovie! I did the first two issues of this four issue mini-series. I did only two issues because at this time I started to work as an art director in games and couldn’t draw the last two issues. Here is the link to pre-order the trade at amazon:
