Cover Gem of the Week: Birds of Prey #24Kyuyong Eom.
Sometimes a cover says, “This is a superhero comic.” And then sometimes, it leans all the way in and whispers, “Yeah, but you’re here for this.” Enter Birds of Prey #24, illustrated by rising cover star Kyuyong Eom, who’s clearly figured out how to blend elegance, strength, and just the right amount of seduction into one hyper-focused rooftop moment. Our heroine isn’t in the middle of a battle, she’s not even striking a typical comic book action pose. No—she’s casually perched on a rooftop, one leg long and extended in fishnets, adjusting a glove like it’s a photoshoot for Vogue: Gotham Edition. Her black-and-blue leotard is complimented by a draped black jacket, while high boots elevate the visual into high-fashion assassin territory. Blonde hair is pouring downward like it’s posing too, blown subtly by the wind, as she looks directly at us because, well, she knows. There’s a tiny bird on the ledge beneath her, easily missed, but probably the only thing grounded in this whole scene. Two soda cans rest beside her because apparently being dangerously attractive is thirsty work. And if you’re wondering whether this is a superhero cover or a piece of collectible pin-up art disguised as one—yes. Yes it is.

Kyuyong Eom is a South Korean artist who’s been getting plenty of well-earned attention in recent years for their jaw-dropping work on variant covers. Known for a hyper-realistic painting style that blends digital precision with traditional softness, Eom often focuses on iconic female characters like Catwoman, Psylocke, Harley Quinn, and now Birds of Prey, giving them a mix of vulnerability, confidence, and edge. Their covers frequently feel more like fine art than comic art, with a painterly approach to lighting and anatomy that has made them a standout in the variant scene. Eom’s ability to make characters feel almost like living beings—locked in one very intimate, powerful moment—has earned them steady work with both Marvel and DC, and their fanbase continues to grow with every sensually charged, beautifully rendered piece.
