Fox Reboots Fantastic Four, Will Make Marvel Movies Forever

In an interview about the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, Fox revealed that it can make Fantastic Four and X-Men movies as long as it feels like it, no matter how many times Disney buys Marvel, so there.

Variety reports that the Fantastic Four franchise is due for a reboot after only two films, with Akiva Goldsman set to produce. The script will be written by Michael Green, who wrote the upcoming Green Lantern movie, and works on the TV show Heroes. Goldsman also produced the Will Smith blockbuster Hancock, and is involved in several other DC movie properties, such as Jonah Hex, The Losers, and Teen Titans.

What does this news have to do with the Disney purchase of Marvel Entertainment? Well, Disney expressed during its conference call yesterday that they intend to eventually bring the distribution of all Marvel movie projects in-house. However, according to Variety, that may simply not be possible:

Though Marvel Entertainment owns and finances properties like "Iron Man" and "Thor,"
Fox controls "Fantastic Four" in perpetuity — as long as it continues
making the films. Fox has the same arrangement on Marvel Comics
properties "X-Men," "Daredevil" and "Silver Surfer." Marvel is a producer and financial participant through a licensing agreement.

Looks like, at least for the foreseeable future, dreams of the Marvel Universe existing in one continuity in the movie world will have to wait until Fox stops pumping out Marvel movies, or at least until Disney pays them a boatload of cash.
