Gem Covers Of The Week 2-18-26

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #4 – Cover by Rafael Grampá
Rafael Grampá doesn’t draw a clean, polished superhero. He draws something that looks like it crawled out of an alley at three in the morning and decided it’s had enough. This cover leans hard into that energy. Batman stands front and center, layered in straps, belts, stitching, and scarred armor that feels more handcrafted than high-tech. The suit looks heavy, almost medieval, like it was built to survive blunt force trauma rather than look sleek on a rooftop silhouette. In his hands are two hammers he probably bought at Home Depot, he’s grounded and deliberate, not raised in action but held like a tool that’s already been used. The red splatter cuts sharply through the otherwise muted blacks and greys, giving the whole piece a raw pulse. Grampá’s linework is jagged and textured, with shadows swallowing most of Batman’s face so that only the cowl’s sharp angles and white slits stare back. It feels grimy and intimate at the same time. There’s nothing glossy here. It’s obsessive detail, layered inks, and a sense that Gotham itself is clinging to him in chains and leather and steel.

Daredevil & Punisher: The Devil’s Trigger #4 – Cover by Skan
Skan approaches this cover with a cinematic sensibility. The composition is controlled and tight: Daredevil and Punisher are bound to chairs, backs turned to one another, both caught in a moment of visible frustration. Punisher’s jaw is open mid-shout, his face tense and expressive, while Daredevil’s head tilts downward screaming as well, as if he’s listening through the chaos, calculating. The lighting is stark, coming through industrial windows behind them, casting a cold wash over the room. The blade descending from above adds tension without overwhelming the scene. It’s not chaotic action; it’s restrained danger. Skan’s painted style brings weight to the muscles, to the leather, to the subtle folds in fabric. The reds of Daredevil’s suit and the white skull on Frank’s chest anchor the composition visually, balancing the otherwise muted palette of concrete and shadow. It feels like a scene paused mid-interrogation, one second before something irreversible happens.

The Will of Doom #1 – Cover by Stephen Platt
Doom sits on a throne, armored and composed, draped in deep green fabric that contrasts sharply with the cold steel of his mask and gauntlets. Every plate of armor is etched and layered, every fold of cloth weighted. The throne itself is crowded with sculpted faces and skull-like forms, adding a gothic heaviness to the setting. Behind him, a stained-glass window echoes religious iconography, elevating Doom from ruler to near-mythic figure. Platt’s linework is dense and dramatic, with thick shadows carved into every crease and contour. The sword rests firmly in Doom’s grasp, angled downward with authority rather than aggression. Looming behind him is a spectral, skeletal presence, reinforcing the sense of legacy and power that surrounds the character. The composition feels grand and deliberate, almost cathedral-like in structure. Platt leans into excess in the best possible way, filling the frame with ornate detail and visual weight.

Ultimate Spider-Man #24 – Cover by Marco Checchetto
Marco Checchetto takes a quieter route here. Instead of motion and spectacle, he gives us reflection. Peter Parker crouches on the edge of a building at sunset, city stretching behind him in warm oranges and soft purples. He’s unmasked, holding the Spider-Man mask loosely in one hand. The pose is grounded and human, knees bent, shoulders slightly hunched, as if the weight of the day has settled in. Checchetto’s strength has always been in expressive faces and clean, confident lines, and that shows here. Peter’s expression is thoughtful, tired but not defeated. The lighting is soft, almost hopeful, catching the edges of his hair and jacket. The webs clinging to the ledge beneath him subtly remind you who he is, even out of costume. It’s a restrained, character-driven cover that focuses less on spectacle and more on identity. Checchetto balances detail with openness, allowing the skyline to breathe while keeping Peter as the emotional focal point.
