Gotham_Central_1There are two sure fire hits this week and should not be missed. Lazarus (2013 Image) #1 comes highly recommended from Shaun Cobble (Breaking the 4th Wall) and Brianna Floss (InvestComics reviews – Bri’s reviews will be on InvestComics tomorrow. Be on the lookout for that!)). Shaun made sure to message me after reading this comic to inform me that Lazarus #1 needs to be an InvestComics’ Hot Pick this week. I ensured him that it was to appear anyways, but between Shaun’s raving and what Brianna’s words “ Rucka’s writing is top-notch, while Lark and Arca’s gorgeous art perfectly captures the fractured nature of the world and its inhabitants”, as well as a 10 out of a 10 rating, yes this solidifies that Lazarus #1 will be well on its way to an instant sellout and command some cash in the aftermarket. The Lazarus creative team of Greg Rucka and Michael Lark also brought readers Gotham Central from 2003. They have had success together already, and it looks like they hit their mark once again. Uncanny (2013 Dynamite) #1 will be the other book to look out for this week. Brianna gives this comic a 9 out of a 10. “…a fun ride” says Brianna, so strap in readers! The roller coaster is about to begin on sellout levels with two independent comics this week.

DC goes back to the well on Wednesday. The very successful, highly touted run of Superman/Batman from 2003 will begin its new run this week, this time staring the new 52 Supes and Bats. It’s their first meeting in the new 52. Writer Jeph Loeb/Ed McGuinness really took the 2003 series to a whole new level, as will writer Greg Pak and Jae Lee for the latest installment. Look for a more “emo” type run here. The cover itself seems very dark, as the inside will probably invoke the same. This isn’t a bad thing, just a change of pace from the previous series for sure probably. Demand will exceed supply, so be prepared for a second print announcement coming soon after Wednesday.

Larfleeze (2013 DC) #1 will star in his own comic this week. If you don’t know yet (you should), Lar’s first appearance was in Green Lantern #25 (2008). The great standalone Superman stories continue in Adventures of Superman (2013) 2nd Series #2 from some of the industry’s top talents. This week Oeming, Joelle Jones, and legend Sal Buscema show off their Superman tales.

Captain America (2012 7th Series) #8 reveals a character set for return that no one would ever imagine coming back. Please surprise us Marvel! Scarlet Spider (2012 2nd Series) #18 asks the question; who is Red Death? Let’s all read it and find out! And finally from the House of Ideas, Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) #32 we meet the new Hellions.

Kiss and WolverineUncanny X-Men #173Godzilla Rulers of the Earth (2013 IDW) #1 will be more Godzilla fun. IDW has the giant monster in a good place. They actually have created a fan base for this dude! Good job IDW! A couple of fun cool books to also check out this week are Atomic Robo and the Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur (2013) #1 from Red 5 Comics and Malevolent Mr Burns (2013 Bongo) #1.

A great cover this week from IDW’s Kiss Solo (2013 IDW) #4 Inadvertently pays homage to a famous Wolverine run pose pictured to the right. It also resembles Uncanny X-Men #173 a bit too. Awesome Peter Chris cover though! IDW kicking some ass.

That’s it for this week. Be sure to sign up for the InvestComics Newsletter!
