InvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 1/28/15

A few things to go over before we get to the shorten edition of this week’s InvestComics Hot Picks.

Our sister company Capital Grading Services announced they will be at this year’s MegaCon in Orlando. Stan Lee will be in attendance, so make sure to get any Stan Lee books you’d like to get signed over to CGS soon to secure a spot before the limit max’s out. There will be plenty of other fantastic creators there as well, so be sure to check on the MegaCon website often right HERE. Pricing will be updated regarding Stan Lee signatures, so please be patient. If you find out before we do, then by all means let us know so that we can confirm it and update the site. The Capital Grading Services is updated as of right now with the banner and link regarding pricing for all tiers. Check that out right HERE. Fantastic guest list as always, be sure to get your books in before the deadline.

Web background

InvestComics_1We’re almost a month into 2015 already and we haven’t mentioned a very special anniversary coming up. In July of this year, InvestComics will be celebrating its ten year anniversary. Ten years of some amazing articles, interviews, videos and so much more. In celebration of our 10 years, each week we will post a little something reflecting on our awesome run. Pictured to the right is the very first InvestComics magazine that was published in 2007. It was a monthly magazine detailing some comics we deemed necessary for speculators to look out for. We spoke about Deathlok’s first appearance and how we felt he would eventually hit the big screen or television one day. Astonishing Tales #25 was a great book to pick up back then and it’s a great book today. Things don’t change that often because many of our speculation picks come to fruition around here quite often. It’s a natural progression to always be on top at InvestComics and we will continue to always do so. Dating back a few years ago (2012), InvestComics went to Tates’s Comic shop to cover the very first DC Hero Initiative sketch cover event (Tate’s Comics – Hero Initiative Event). We are proud of this video for so many reasons. First and foremost, the event explained the importance of Hero Initiative. Secondly, getting perspective from the fans about what Hero Initiative means to them, Third, speaking with Alex Saviuk was fantastic, and then some nice pictures of the the actual covers themselves. AND it also features the awesomeness of Jo. Shes’s the manager at Tate’s. Check out the short video below. We hope you enjoy it as much as we had making it.

Spider_2099_Spider_Verse_InvestComicsDeathstroke_4_InvestComicsSpider-Verse continues this week and you know how we feel about that here at InvestComics. For the newer subscribers here on InvestComics, we can tell you that we are big on buying anything Spider-Verse at this point. InvestComics was saying this way before Spider-Verse even started. There are simply too many variables with this massive crossover event. Too many possibilities of a breakout character or a surprise introduction. Get Spider-Man 2099 (2014 2nd Series) #8 this week and enjoy the read. Even if nothing substantial happens in this book, it’s still a great story line.

Speaking of substantial. Recent news says that Marvel will be doing a complete overhaul of their universe. So what does this mean for new titles like Uncanny Avengers (2014 Marvel) 2nd Series #1? Will all number ones moving forward mean anything in the new Marvel Universe? I think Marvel may have touched on this, but most of us stopped reading after we realized that Marvel is essentially doing a New 52 move but on steroids. Which is okay because lets face it, Marvel (Disney) are here to make money and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! Many fanboys will moan and groan about change, but it’s about keeping a business thriving and fresh, not about keeping things in a constant “norm” to satisfy a nostalgic bunch. Things change and change is good. Those fanboys that whine Bitch_Planet_2_InvestComics Uncanny_Avengers_1_Marvel_InvestComicswill be the first to buy the new Marvel universe books because those are the same ones who claimed never to buy a Spidey book again after Joe Quesada turned everything upsidedown.

Deathstroke will make his way into Gotham in Deathstroke #4. You have to check this book out. Tony Daniel is killing it as he usually does. How is this dude not a huge draw at comic conventions is a huge mystery. Seriously. InvestComics for years and years has been calling this guy out since his amazing AMAZING Batman run.

Image Comics will give readers the second issues of two hot number one comics. Bitch Planet (2014) #2 and They’re Not Like Us (2014 Image) #2 are set to arrive after their first issues sold out. Looks like more of the same here. Two other Image titles are on the cusp of selling out; Casanova Acedia (2014 Image) #1 and Dying and the Dead (2014 Image) #1.

It’s always interesting to read a new DC/Vertigo title. Check out Effigy (2015 DC/VERTIGO) #1. Looks like the typical edgy goodness of a Vertigo title. Good stuff.

Punks_The_Comic_4_InvestComicsPunks The Comic (2014) #4 pays homage to a very familiar Marvel comic cover. And Find (2015 Comixtribe) #1 and Munchkin (2014 Boom) #1 look interesting.

See you soon. Invest wisely. Read comics.

Carpe Diem.

Jay Katz
