A lot of number one issues coming out this week. Here are some of the DC books first;

Batman Beyond #1, this will be volume 5 number one. You know what that means? Five different times collectors have seen a number one issue pop up from Batman Beyond. That’s a lot. It kind of waters down the “premiere #1” issue deal a bit. That said, it doesn’t stop the high priced 1999 issue.  Anyways, Batman Beyond’s first appearance was in Batman Beyond #1 (1999). Bizarro #1, here’s an all ages book. Good to see DC is trying to get the little guys/gals back into comic books. Bizarro first appears in Superboy #68 (1958). And very funny variant here by Kyle Baker. Another all ages comic from DC; Bat-Mite #1. Count this reader in! And speculators, for you; Detective Comics #267 (1959). That’s the first appearance of Bat-Mite. One more thing, the variant is sold out. Midnighter #1 What will come of this series exactly? Who knows, looks cool though. Midnighter first appeared in Stormwatch #4 (1997).Written by Warren Ellis. Back in the 80’s the Omega Men team was awesome. Can they revisit that awesomeness with Omega Men #1? We will find out. Their first appearance is in Green Lantern #141 (1981). George Perez cover. Fantastic first appearance to have in your collection. Wonder Woman Annual #1 Check out what “old face” from the past shows back up.

Here is a rundown of some of the Marvel number one titles coming out on Wednesday.

With the new Marvel Universe on the horizon, we get more number one issues than we can handle. Or maybe we can handle them. Most would opt to just chill hitting the restart button, but we have Marvel and DC really shaking things up lately. All that said, Peter Parker will feel the wrath of the Secret Wars too. No one is safe. A safe bet is however, if there is a Spider-Man number one issue coming out, there will be a bazillion variant covers. That is so for the Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #1 comic coming out this Wednesday. Marvel isn’t shy about these variant covers. Ten at last count. Probably more than that as you read this article. The standouts as far as variants go are; Pasqual Ferry, Adi Granov, and J. Scott Campbell. Yes they are all nice, but these are our favorites. Too many variants that will sell for an absorbent amount of monies and then taper off. It’s the same formula here. So what about the actual comic? The only thing that makes this or any crazy amount of variants worth chasing is if there is a major introduction (their daughter?) within the pages, otherwise what you have here is a bunch of hyperbole with no substance to sustain the pricing during the immediate aftermarket wave. So what about this daughter Peter and Mary have? Is this a new take on their lives? Certainly looks that way. Having a child in any relationship changes things a whole lot! Maybe that will be the sticking point on keeping this comic relevant 10 years from now. And from the looks of it, the daughter may possess some of daddy’s DNA down a few issues later. Are we surprised here really though? Lets see where Dan Slott and Adam Kubert bring us.

The popularity of a talking tree has reached epic proportions. Groot #1 gets its own series. Who would have ever thought that Tales To Astonish #13 (1960) would become an untouchable book? InvestComics of course that’s who! A year and a half before the Guardians of the Galaxy movie hit, InvestComics informed speculators to buy this book. Check out the article right HERE. This was even before the characters were announced to appear! These days it’s so high on the depth chart right now it’s insane. Does the book have anymore wiggle room (uptick) to warrant a profit if you’re a buyer? Possibly yes if you can somehow get a real good buy on one. Here’s why. Groot will appear in the next Guardians movie and possibly beyond to the Infinity Wars movies. The Avengers will need all the help they can get when it comes to dealing with Thanos in those movies, so it’s probably a safe bet that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be teaming up with the Avengers. So Groot could possibly appear in another 3 movies before all is said and done. Maybe the love affair with audiences gets Groot a solo movie? Who knows? Either way, all this means more upside for Tales to Astonish #13.

Armor Wars #1; This story originally ran back in Iron Man #225 (1987). The biggest difference between then and now is the Iron Gwen variant this Wednesday. Iron Gwen? Really? Future Imperfect #1 was an original story back in 1992. Writer Peter David, art/ink and cover art from George Perez. Peter David writes the story again this Wednesday, but pencils by Greg Land this time. Hulk extraordinaire artist Dale Keown lends a variant cover. The original X-Tinction storyline dates back to Uncanny X-Men #270 (1990). Jim Lee, Chris Claremont, and Scott Williams were all over this. Marvel brings back the story 25 years later in X-Tinction Agenda #1 with lots of variants and a beautiful Mike Deodato Jr. variant. Skottie Young fans rejoice, Skottie writes and pencils this new series based on the little marvel universe. Giant Size Little Marvel #1 will be a guaranteed fun time.

The next big death issue has arrived speculators. G.I. Joe #214 will be providing the aftermarket with some serious buzz. Here is the thing, do not hold onto this comic too long or you will miss the top of the sell here. Be mindful of the market, time it correctly, if you don’t you will be left holding a comic with a decreased value and no demand. The hype will mostly likely be a short lived one. Snake Eyes is a big character in the G.I. Joe circles, not in popular culture. This isn’t a Captain America death where you see some dude you’ve never seen at your comic shop buying five copies. Although this is more of a G.I Joe/comic book speculator book, it still will command attention. Be prepared, and be alert. 1 year from now this will be long forgotten. The story won’t be because it’s a fantastic one, it’s the hype that surrounds it right now.

Learn more about Darkseid’s daughter in Justice League #41 as the first part of the Darkseid War goes full throttle. And the introduction(s) of new villains may arrive in here. Be on top of this comic speculators! Great David Finch Joker variant too. DC has many “epic” things going on these days. Well, as does the “other guys” too, but this week sees the epic storyline “TRUTH” roll out in Action Comics #41. And oh yes, is that Superman’s new costume (Levi’s) on the cover? We forgot about that already. That’s not a good sign. That Green Arrow #41 Bill Sienkiewicz Joker variant is as stellar as is the Green Lantern #41 Joker variant by Ben Oliver.

InvestComics says this almost every week, but a reminder for the new readers coming on board; buy any of the new Star Wars comics. An introduction of any character sends the aftermarket into a frenzy and you stand to make a quick buck. Besides, the Star Wars comics are delivering some good stories anyway. Star Wars #6, Darth Vader #6 and Princess Leia #4 are due out.

As InvestComics has warned about Star Wars and new characters popping up, watch for the Secret Wars to do the same possibly. And what’s with Secret Wars #3 Dr. Gwendge variant cover? Yes, yes the Gwen craze that’s right. Has that not subsided some? Yet another female dominating character in the Marvel Universe; Superior Iron Man #9 sees Superior Iron Woman taking it to Stark. This intro can blow up quickly if the character has substance. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #6; the introduction of Girl Squirrel and the return of Hippo. Hippo first appeared in the ultra cool Dark Reign Sinister Spider-Man #1 (2009).

Good to see that the Archie Comics crew is not superstitious at all. Archie #666 will be the last issue of its historic run and no fanfare of evil here, just “6” covers that all connect to make one “happy” image. The amazing talent of Dan Parent gets all of the cover credits too. That’s the right way to end the run. And Broken World #1 from Boom Studios looks like a good story, one to check out.
