Sometimes it really does feel like the 90’s all over again. Not only the comic industry, but it sure looks like Marvel has taken a page from the 90’s history books. Venom is all the craze once again. Once upon a time it was Wolverine, then it was Ghost Rider, Darkhawk (for a hot minute), Punisher and of course Venom. Well, Venom is back and he’s everywhere…..again. Venom Inc. #1 has the symbiote “doubling down” on its previous host, Marvel heroes and others.  Creators involved here are Dan Slott, Mike Costa and Ryan Stegman.
The new Iron Spider (Aaron Davis) and the new Sinister Six debuted in Spider-Man #234. This week Iron Spider takes it to Miles Morales in Spider-Man #235. Looks like Miles is in for quite a fight.
Doctor Stephen Strange rocks the boat a bit (Marvel U) within the last pages of Doctor Strange #382. Our guess? It would seem as though the new Loki Sorcerer Supreme is kicking some major as* and the Doctor has to do something drastic to stop it.
Captain America faces off against the all-new Swordsman in Captain America #696. The original Swordsman first appeared in Avengers #19 (1965). It says so right on the cover too. A very silly looking dude back then, right?
Interesting story starting up from writer Sina Grace in Iceman #8; Iceman vs. Iceman part 1.

Buy/Bid – Suicide Squad #1 Aspen
Buy/Bid – Deathstroke #26
Buy/Bid – Iceman #8

The first Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles team-up brought on a lot of interest, buyers, readers. So what worked before has to work once more. That’s usually the thinking of a good sale. This week the return of this odd team-up; Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #1. This time Bane winds up in New York and, well….Batman and the Turtles will take their fight to New York to get Bane out of there. Creators James Tynion IV and Freddie E. Williams II.
DC Universe Holiday Special 2017 #1 is a who’s who in the comic industry. So many great creators lending their hand in making this holiday special. Too many to list here. One mention of importance is the “return” of legendary writer Denny O’Neil. Denny will write an original Batman story in this special. Incidentally, Denny O’Neil’s last original work dates back to 2010’s Detective Comics #866. Accompanied by a ridiculously cool Walt Simonson cover. Welcome back Denny!
A new story arc beings in Deathstroke #26; The Fall Of Slade part one. Creators Christopher Priest, Carlo Pagulayan and Jason Paz.
Writer Tom King takes readers on a two-part journey regarding the on again, off again relationship of Bruce and Clark. Batman #36; Superfriends part 1, focuses on how these two heroes “inspire” one another. DC claims this story will have readers talking…..as in a buzz. The story is derived from Tom King, so you know it will be good anyway. Art by Clay Mann.
The Deadman #2 comic will play Jedi mind tricks with readers and collectors on Wednesday. All across local comic shop land, many fans will be holding the cover up to a light (a “certain light”) that will reveal a hidden message. No really, not making this up. Go into your shop on the busy Wednesday evening and watch everyone holding up the Deadman #2 comic to the light. They’ll do either one of two things, smile and say, “oh that’s cool” or they’ll frown and say, “oh wow, that’s lame.” Either way, DC will get you to do what they want, you’ll do it and that’ll create the curiosity around the book. Bring attention to it, having a few consumers putting it in their stack because it was a neat trick they’ll want to show mom or their girlfriend when they get home. Here’s a bulletin, they’re not going to care, but you do so that’s what matters most. See, the Jedi mind trick from DC this week will work…..you’ll see.

Buy/Bid – Batman #36

InvestComics Indie Hot Picks; Indie comics do not always show up on Ebay right way. Please check back on a regular basis, some of the smaller print indie books usually list after new comic book release day or a few days after.
Suicide Squad #1 Michael Turner & Peter Steigerwald Aspen Comics variant cover is sold out. Look for this comic to spike in the aftermarket. Please remember (message for new speculators), this is only a cover of a comic book. Nothing on the inside of this comic warrants a very high price tag. A pretty cover should not command a lot of your money. Ever. A rare variant can always be reprinted later on or maybe you can buy the poster art of the cover, don’t spend lots of money on a modern that will not pay dividends down the line. Spend that cash on a solid Bronze Age first appearance instead or wait on a new printing down the line. Please understand that we’re not saying to NOT buy variants, but be smart in what you are doing. Once the market corrects itself on the down side, these pretty covers will have no substance within the inside pages to warrant a high priced ticket. A true collector will not pay big money for a “limited” variant cover. They’ll SELL them to any potential buyers, but would not hold it as a long-term. Aspen Comics will release 12 different variant covers available to order for the first time.
