Marc Webb Meets with James Cameron to Discuss Spider-Man in 3D

The Spider-Man director met with the Avatar director to receive advice on shooting the upcoming Spidey reboot in 3D.

With the huge success of Avatar, James Cameron has become a Hollywood guru for special effects and 3D technology. The director and creator of technology that helps propel Avatar to a bazillion dollars on box office revenue has been doling out advice to other filmmakers on shooting their films in 3D, something which has suddenly become extremely trendy. According to MTV News, the latest director to meet with Cameron was Marc Webb, director of the upcoming Spider-Man reboot:

Last [week] we met the director of [the next ‘Spider-Man’ film],” Cameron’s producing partner Jon Landau revealed to us when he stopped by the MTV studio, explaining that the “Avatar” filmmaker and Spider-Man’s new gatekeeper compared notes Wednesday evening. “[Webb] wants to do the next one in 3-D, which they’ve announced that they want to do. So, we want to try to support that as much as possible.”

Cameron’s most important philosophy on the subject? If you’re shooting a movie in 3D, do it in 3D from the start. Many pictures that were shot regularly are converting to 3D in post-production, which will not result in the highest quality product:

“Other movies are turning to it now, some of which I agree with, some of which I don’t agree with. ‘Clash of The Titans’ is coming out in 3-D; they’re converting it very hastily into 3-D. I’m not in favor if that,” Landau explained, saying he and Cameron much prefer what “Spider-Man” is doing. “If you want to shoot a 3-D movie, shoot it in 3-D.”
