Metropolis Zaps All Sales Records with $200,000 X-Men #1 Sale
A pristine copy of X-Men #1 CGC 9.6 sold in March in a private deal through Metropolis Collectibles, the world’s largest vintage comic book dealer.
“The buyer contacted me looking for something very special, an extremely high grade Marvel key. I had several different books but when he heard about the X-Men #1, he knew it was the right book for him,” said COO Vincent Zurzolo.
The comic features the origins and first appearances of the X-Men and Magneto, the teen-age team’s arch-enemy. The book has off-white to white pages, sharp corners, and near-perfect centering.
The $200,000 sale is the most ever paid for a copy of X-Men #1 in any condition.
“I’ve always believed that X-Men #1 was due for an upward market correction like this,” said Rob Reynolds, Director of Consignments. “Silver Age Marvel keys are going like gangbusters right now and I encourage potential investors to call us right away with their want lists.”
