New Cover Gems This Week 11-12-25
This week’s Cover Gem lineup is a chaotic cocktail of elegance, intensity, and straight-up artistic flexing. Four covers that don’t ask for your attention—they take it.
Batman #162 from Chris Bachalo feels like the visual equivalent of an adrenaline spike. Bachalo’s signature sketch-slash-slice chaos captures the constant tension of Gotham’s worst relationship—Batman versus Hush. Every panel feels like it’s bleeding motion, and every line feels ready to explode. It’s raw, sharp, and unfiltered—like Bachalo looked at calm composition and said, “Nah.”
Poison Ivy #38 by Zeen Chin, on the other hand, goes for the soft kill. Chin’s dreamy color palette and painterly control turn Ivy into something between a siren and a fever dream. She isn’t just standing there; she’s pulling you into her chlorophyll-colored trance. The tendrils snake around with quiet menace, but let’s be real—no one’s trying to escape this cover.
Then there’s Sinister Six #2 by Ivan Shavrin, which looks like it broke free from a nightmare crossover between Venom and a carnival funhouse mirror. Shavrin’s design language is full-blown insanity, each jagged red slash hinting at Wolverine’s claws and Venom’s grin in a fractured reflection of chaos. It’s visual dissonance at its most satisfying.
Finally, Supergirl #7 by Sozomaika does what Sozomaika always does—make digital art look human. Supergirl looks like she’s about two seconds from punching a hole in the fourth wall while asking the most relatable question in comics: “Seriously?” The light, the shadows, the edge—it’s all composed like a cinematic still that somehow manages to capture frustration and strength in one sharp look. These four covers together feel like a masterclass in tone control—each artist operating in their own stylistic lane, yet all reminding us why comic art keeps outperforming mainstream illustration.
