Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

A new TMNT film means renewed interest in the famous mutants!  We all know what issues are rare and worth collecting but they also have appeared in many other titles, some of which are quite hard to come by:

1.  Furrlough 52

FURRLOUGH-52-1997-1598-2351

This outstanding, long running series should not be missed by fans of anthropomorphic comics.  Not only does this issue have a wonderful cover but it’s a rare appearance by Ninjara, a supporting character from the TMNT universe!

2.  New Age Comics 1

Published in 1985 this rarity features one of the earliest appearances of the foursome in color!  Flip it over and find out!

3.  Comic Buyers Guide 545

Comic Buyers 545 First TMNT

Why would an old buyer’s guide be worth anything?  In this particluar issue an ad for the Turtles appeared prior to any other known appearance and was the catalyst for the craze to come!

4. Last of the Viking Heroes 2 and 3

Awesome color covers make these forgotten issues worth pulling from the q-bin.

5.  Grimjack 26

See above.

6. Extremely Silly 1

Ben Dunn draws the TMNT!  Good luck finding it.  This issue from AP has to be one of the hardest turtle issues to locate.

7. Miami Mice 4

The turtles appear and some guy name Dave Sim contributes!

8. Flaming Carrot

If you have yet to enjoy the masterpiece that is The Flaming Carrot then I really do feel bad for you.  Issues are rare these days but are worth dipping into the no-honey money to acquire them all.

9. Turtlemania Special

There are variants for this ashcan size comic but my personal favorite is this yellow cover.  They sell for decent money on the back issue market so be prepared to pay a hefty sum if you want one in NM.

10.  Cerebus 155

Again Sim and the TMNT together just can’t go wrong.

11. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 12 ( Image, 1996 )

Here is an odd comic.  Fans of the comics are pretty adamant about keeping female turtles out of the group.  The TV show included Venus De Milo, the first female turtle and she caused outrage amongst fans.  This issue features a female turtle but it’s a spoof.  Is she Venus or something else?

12. How to Draw the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( Solson )

More rare comics from Solson!

13. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness ( Palladium )

TMNT_and_Other_Strangeness

Palladium published a plethora of TMNT related material in the 80’s and 90’s.  Most of it is very rare.

14. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Authorized Training  Manual ( Solson )

I am still waiting for an unauthorized edition!

15. Pre-Teen Dirty-Gene Kung-Fu Kangaroos 1

Once the turtles became popular others tried desperately to replicate the success.  Here is one example where the TMNT had a cameo.
