Since the extraordinary bank the Black Panther movie has made, for some reason Marvel Comics feels as though this will equate to booming Black Panther comic book sales too. Has no one realized yet that the movies do not really coincide with the comics as far as sales go? The only ‘bump’ the comics get regarding a film is when the speculators think they have the next holy grail (first appearance or major plot line arc), only to be stuck with it because some yo-yo’s are stating it’ll be ‘worth lots of money!’.  This all said, a new Black Panther #1 will hit on Wednesday with lots of variants (too many). Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates returns to this restart as he wrote the previous arc of Black Panther. Why not just continue with the numbering and label it ‘new arc/new direction’? Makes no sense at all. But it makes sense when you’re trying to grab a new audience, new readers, new speculators. It does make sense to that capacity, but not to the norm of things. The drowning of number one comics for no necessary reason or the variant covers are absolutely astounding these days. One of the many reasons this particular website switched over years ago and finally implemented our new direction. See HERE if you’re not too sure what’s up. Yes, the new Black Panther will trend for a little bit, but things will settle down, like history has taught us regarding this character. Always a great character and read when it comes to Ta-Nehisi and always great eye candy too with Daniel Acuna at the helm.

Thanos #16 – Third Print

Brian Michael Bendis writes his last comic book for Marvel; Invincible Iron Man #600. Marvel Comic creators, sending their well wishes on social media. Nothing but nice things to say. Unlike the some idiotic fanboys with no lives that spout their venom. Didn’t momma teach you, nothing nice to say…..Anyway, the last Bendis book will mark the end of an era with Marvel for Brian. It was a speculator run and he’ll be going out with a bang according to Marvel. ‘5 HUGE surprises’ await readers. One of the best non-surprise is a new villain will be introduced. So, this comic will trend the socials for a bit as fans will be talking about it and posting. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
MORE hunting for Wolverine this week; Hunt For Wolverine The Mystery In Madripoor #1. Writer Jim Zub and artist Chris Bachalo. When will this hunt be over? Every week people are looking for him. Hence the Todd Nauck variant cover. It kinds of sums it up. “Where’s Wolverine?”

Last appearing in 2016’s Captain America: Sam Wilson #11, then appearing in Darkhawk #51 earlier this year, Darkhawk is on his way back. Despite only making about 11 appearances since 2011 till now, the aftermarket appreciates this class c character a bit. Well it REALLY did back in early 2017 when an action figure came out with the name ‘Guardians of The Galaxy’ on the package. It did NOT have VOL 2 on the package, which if it did, would have meant it’s from the VOL 2 movie! Duh! Once again, speculative websites (not InvestComics at the time!) went batty over this and drove the original Darkhawk #1 (1991 first appearance) off the charts on eBay. Only to have the director of GOTG2, James Gunn, settle things down regarding the article(s) themselves with “…I think it was not very well thought out…”. Embarrassing for websites, the speculators and for the poor sap that paid lots and lots of money for a Darkhawk #1. But, the Darkhawk #1 speculative market holds on eBay as raw copies range within the $8 to $19 range. A graded 9.8 copy sold for $140 on May 5th. A 9.6 sold for $66. Not as many graded copies sold as when the ridiculous rumor came out. The speculative market hopes to be right eventually, so prices hold steady for now…until the silliness subsides, and everyone wakes up a bit. Maybe the new release; Infinity Countdown Darkhawk #1 (Chris Sims, Chad Bowers, Lim, Gang Hyuk) will jumpstart things once again for the Darkhawk character. Who knows??
Legion #5 introduces ‘Bessie Doll’.
A new character will be introduced in Champions #20; ‘Snowguard’.
Moon Knight #195 introduces ‘The Collective’.
The Thanos #16 third printing sideways cover from Geoff Shaw rocks.

Batgirl #23 is sold out. Because of a major storyline? No. An introduction of a new character? No. A death of a character? No. A new bad as* creative team? No. A Deadpool or Venom appearance? No, no and impossible. The Joshua Middleton variant is actually sold out. The cover is superb, gorgeous, beautiful, and there are simply not enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe this one. Trending comic cover of the year so far.
Scooby Doo Team-Up #38 will feature Blue Falcon and Dynomutt. While this is not a big deal at all, this will be Blue Falcon and Dynomutt’s last appearance as ‘Hanna Barbara’ type characters before their new ‘ultra-modern’ revamp look in Super Sons/Dyno-Mutt Special #1 on May 30. Although their Hanna Barbara ‘look’ may continue, this is the last old before the new…..and then back to the old again (maybe). Either way, the NEW revamp cover(?) from Fernando Pasarin looks special. And for those keeping score at home. Blue Falcon and Dynomutt first appeared in Scooby-Doo #1 in 1977.

Putting your political affiliation and politics aside, Puerto Rico is still reeling after the devastating hurricane Irma ripped through there in September of 2017. Many are still left without power, food and water. Comic book creator/publisher Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez of La Borinqueña decided he will not stand idle any longer. He’s created an anthology; Ricanstruction Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico. Featuring some of the most iconic DC characters along side his creator owned La Borinqueña. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman and many others are joined with comic creators from across the industry (aisle); Gail Simone, Greg Pak, Reginald Hudlin, Denys Cowan, Tony Daniel, Ken Lashley, Bill Sienkiewicz, Yanick Paquette, Gabby Rivera, Will Rosado, Jorge Jimenez, Mike Allred, Chris Sotomayor, to Puerto Rican and Latinx celebrities like Rosario Dawson, Rubén Blades, Javier Muñoz, Sonia Manzano and over 100 more. This anthology not only brings the talent, but it brings hope. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to those in need in Puerto Rico. Buy this anthology, enjoy the words and pictures. After you’re done with it, know that you did something good for a family in need. Do not lend your copy out, ask that your family and friends buy this book too.
