Warner Bros. Drops He-Man Movie

In the wake of the corporate restructuring of DC Entertainment, parent company Warner Bros. has decided to let the option lapse on the He-Man movie project they were developing with Mattel.

Apparantly, WB and Mattel, the owners of the He-Man property, could not see eye to eye on the project and mutually decided to part ways. The He-Man movie was, of course, to be based on the He-Man character, popular in the eighties, who battles the evil Skeletor for control of his magical world. He-Man has had a popular cartoon, toy line, movie, and various comic books in the past.

There is some speculation that the termination of this deal between Warner and Mattel could be due to Warner’s recent restructuring of DC and a desire to concentrate more fully on DC properties.

It is expected that producer Joel Silver will not stay on with the project either, though director John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) may. Mattel and Warner Bros. are still working together on the Hot Wheels franchise.
