Bullying_InvestComicsInvestComics Hot Picks – New Release Comics on 1/7/15

If there is one comic you will buy this week it should be Avengers No More Bullying (2014) #1. Not because of the monetary value it brings, but because of the value of life it could bring. Being a statistic of bullying in my life, I cannot stress this enough to buy this comic and share it with your children. Teach them that bullying is unacceptable. Teach them they are not alone. Even if you do not have children, buy it and give it to a child you may know. Buy a few copies and give it to a teacher you may know at a school. Give some to your neighbors who have children, I don’t care. Saving one child’s life due to bullying is a win. Kudos to Marvel for doing this project. It’s a tremendously important topic that needs more addressing. Please buy this. Share it, give it away, pass it on.

A new year means a new beginning. In the case of the comic book world, a new beginning many of us were not really asking for, but we’re receive anyway. Ant-Man (2014 Marvel) #1 will bring Scott Lang (aka Ant-Man) front and center. The comic will come complete with its ridiculous 8 variant covers, which will not be worth squat in the long run. Do not get caught up in the variants here, you will lose money. Get a high grade/signature series and dump it while it’s hot for a little while.

Ant_Man_InvestComics Marvel_Premiere_47_InvestComicsSo not only did fans not ask for this comic, but the movie as well. Not so much asking per say, but a demand. The Ant-Man movie will probably do well (maybe), but what if it doesn’t? Here’s the thing folks, when will the Marvel Studios winning streak stop? Not trying to be a negative Nancy here, just a realist. One of these years, Marvel will not make back its money from one of their films. What happens then? The mouse will not be a happy camper that’s for sure. Disney likes money and their Marvel cash cow is making them tons of it. A clunker means what then? A slowdown on the comic book movie production maybe? Everyone (Fanboys especially) can pretend that every Marvel movie will be a hit, but no one is talking about what if they actually fail to reach the audience or actually have a movie the majority of moviegoers do not embrace? Once the first failure comes into play, the comic book market will change drastically. Many collectors have paid top dollar for a Marvel Premiere #47 (1979); the first appearance of the NEW Ant-Man (Scott Lang) and that seems to be a big risk to this speculator. A second rate character that never commanded the spotlight, but yet is being forced into one. Here’s the only way your Marvel Premiere #47 will get you a return. First, the movie has to show substantial gains and even then it does not equate to a big return. The second and more important trend to follow with Ant-Man is whether he will be on the new Avengers team after or during the Avengers Infinity War Parts 1 and 2 2018/2019. Will Phase 3 for Marvel lead into a new Avengers team? Robert, Chris, Scarlet, Mark, Samuel and the gang will not stay on forever. Will Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Ms. Marvel and Ant-Man make up for most of the new team? So if Scott Lang is to stick around for a while and play a major role within the Marvel Studio films, complete with toys and promotion, Marvel Premiere will hold its value. If Scotty is left by the wayside, a one and done, a poor showing at the ticket booth, well then Ant-Man is back to being, dare I say it? Small.

Marvel_Super_Heroes_1_InvestComics Squirrel_Girl_InvestComicsHere’s a mind boggling back issue I completely don’t understand. I urge anyway to please fill me in because I probably missed something. Marvel Super-Heroes #8 (1991). What is it with the first appearance of Squirrel Girl? A 9.8 signature series is at a buy it now price of $380?? What? Why?? Raw NM copies are selling for $90 or above. What gives here anyway? The only redeeming value I see is that Steve Ditko was the co-creator of the character. Yes THE Steve Ditko drew, wrote and inked the short story. With that, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (2014) #1 debuts this Wednesday. Squirrel Girl’s first solo comic. That’s 24 years in the making. Look for the comic to sell out and get any of the variants signed and graded. If the new solo series takes off, look for Marvel Super-Heroes #8 to be an even more expensive get. This could be the next big female character aftermarket book.

InvestComics has been telling you for months about Spider-Verse. We got you the hot Gwen Stacy book and we will continue to inform collectors that they need to pick up every Spider-Verse book that comes out. There are simply too many Feathers_InvestComics Original_Sin_5_InvestComics
Easter eggs and introductions happening that it’s a good idea to just get this wonderful story. This week
Amazing Spider-Man (2014 3rd Series) #12 and Spider-Man 2099 (2014 2nd Series) #7 will continue the Spider-Verse saga. Read it and love it.

Operation Sin (2014 Marvel) #1 will focus its spotlight onto Woodrow McCord. Just in case this dude turns out to be an important player down the rode someday, you’ll want to get Original Sin #5 as that’s his first appearance.

Spider_2099_InvestComicsFans of the steampunk lure will have to grab a copy of Steam Tales (2014 Antarctic Press) #1. It’s sold out. Other great reads/number one issues to check out this week; Ixth Generation (2014 Image) #1, Feathers (2014 Boom) #1, and Wolverines (2014 Marvel) #1.

Invest wisely. Carpe Diem.
