We begin this week with Infinity Gauntlet #1.The first appearance of Anwen Bakian and as the new Nova. Yet another strong female presence enters the realm of the Marvel universe. The original Infinity Gauntlet #1 took place in 1991. The 1991 Infinity Gauntlet was a fantastic read. As for the 2015 version, get the Adi Granov variant if you are speculating big on this character and want the most bang for your buck. Adi provides the new character front and center in this beautiful variant.

Here’s a quick free comic book speculating lesson from InvestComics regarding the influx of new female characters. Newsflash, not all first appearances (female OR male) will offer a large return within the aftermarket. Actually, some may not even have a return at all. Don’t be under this misconception that you will make money on every first appearance you buy. While we’re talking about the female character introductions, some of them are doomed to fail just like their male counterparts. Is there a possible quick buck to be made here? Maybe, probably so, but a short window may leave many stuck with a comic that everyone already has a heads up on. Don’t be misguided into believing that every single first appearance will be a hit in the aftermarket immediately following its release.

So the questions a speculator should be asking themselves regarding a first appearance of a character (female or male) are; What impact will this character have within the grand scheme of things? Will this character have a profound affect on another character(s)? Is there something completely different about them that we haven’t seen before? Does the character have a story to tell? Are they relatable? Is the origin too complex? Are they in for the long haul? Will this character get special attention with their own series? Will the company push this character too much where it seems desperate to push fans to like them, which in turn shows there is a lack of a fanbase not possibly existing really and more so just hype. Are they related to another hero/villain?; which could be a quick “wow who really cares moment?” (See Angela). Do they even look like a winner? There are so many mitigating factors that go into this, you must have the knowledge, expertize and presence in mind to be doing this for many years to get some speculating calls right on point.

The new Marvel way is the female character. They have made it abundantly clear that they want to make the female presence a strong one in their universe, which is absolutely fantastic. There will be ones that simply do not work folks, be prepared. But with all of the new female heroes being introduced, when will that big female villain be introduced and what will happen to the market then exactly? Will there be an influx of female villains coming in? Lets not kid ourselves here. Marvel likes money. So does DC. So do all companies. They should, they’re in business to put food on the table for their families. They will push the envelope as far as it needs to go to make the fanbase interested in buying their comics. If that means the new hot thing to do is hype up a bunch of new female based characters, then they will do so. Soon enough though, the female villains will arrive in droves too. Be prepared for that. Then it will become a common core overused marketing ploy. But again, not all will be successful. So any hyperbole from new speculators or inexperienced ones arriving on the scene remember this; true speculators do not lead to slaughter, they guide them to think. Know the difference here.

Inhumans Attilan Rising #1 The first appearance of the Attilan land is in Fantastic Four #47 (1966). Important more so if you’re into first appearances of “land”. That said, Inhumans (as said here on InvestComics) will be huge in years to come. Does this mean that Attilan will gain some momentum in the aftermarket before the Inhumans become a household name in about 4 years? The way things are these days, probably yes. And only if Attilan is part of the Inhumans lure in the theater. But lest InvestComics remind you one more time, early Inhumans comics……buy buy buy.

The new Inferno comic hits this Wednesday. Inferno #1. The original Inferno story started (prologue) in Uncanny X-Men #239 (1988). It was a massive run in mostly all of the mutant books. It was a fun read then and it’ll probably be the same this time around as well.

The new Secret Wars 2099 #1 will be the first appearance of the new Avengers 2099. 2099 used to be a hot item back in the day. It ran its course and the whole love fest faded into obscurity. 2099 has appeared since yesteryear, but to no fanfare today as it once was. Maybe times will change and fans will except it once again. We’ll see.

Nova #31…….readers alert, surprise ending here. We love surprise endings!

Captain Canuck #1 was featured on the InvestComics free comic book day article in January 2015. Given the right creative team and guidance, Captain Canuck could be a hit. Having a David Finch variant helps to start things off too. There aren’t any of these variants available on Ebay right now. Hard one to get? Great variant though! His first appearance was in Captain Canuck #1 (1975).

Check out Fight Club 2 #1 from Dark Horse. At first glance, the Lee Bermejo variant looks like it has the Incredible Hulk on the cover. Seriously, check it out. Super cool right?

Indestructible Stingray #1; This IDW comic is going to be a good read. And just in case Stingray catches on, the first appearance was in Indestructible #1 (2013). Material #1 from Image Comics; a deep semi-political thought out comic. Very serious content in this book. Looks like an award winning Oscar movie put into comic book form. A new Avatar Press comic written by the legend/sometimes eccentric Alan Moore hits this Wednesday; Providence #1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #46 sold out variant by Alberto Ponticelli.
