wpconan.gif1. What comic (character) would you love to have total creativity control over? And why?

(WP) Conan…to continue the Proud Pilipino Tradition of mastering that character. My style is just tailor made for that character. His savageness, his power, his pride. I would love to bring him to a new audience and show that yes, he is about the power of the blade and mortal combat in its truest sense, but he is also about primitive pride and honor and has a code, a standard with which he lives his life.

wp2.gif2. If you could have 1 superpower, what would it be?

(WP) In vulnerability…to be able to take anything anyone can throw at me and survive to be hit again, and again, and again…

3. Do you have a routine that you follow before or during work?

(WP) I draw basically all day so I need breaks throughout the day to keep my mind at ease…so I have my tablet PC to paint and to Zbrush, my guitar, and my sci-fi novels and my two gorgeous Princesses that keep me amazed and alive as they grow up and enjoy life…

wpxfactor.gif4. Who is your favorite creator to work with?

(WP) Scott Williams…’nuff said…

5. In your opinion, do you feel that the movie industry is doing a good job with the Comic Book movies?

(WP) It’s getting better and better as we go on. They are learning that these comicbook characters became popular for a reason…the comicbooks. Now if we can only convince them to not just to redo the origin story every three years or so. There are multitudes of stories and these characters have so many sides to them…explore and enjoy….

wpspawn.gif6. What comic book hero/villain do you want to see on screen?

(WP) Deathlok…its his time…the original series is a perfect blend of the superhero mythos and science fiction…the technology is here and the audience is aware…it is his time…I would do it tho’ with a hard science edge to it, no costume, just the original concept, a rotting, smelling, walking corpse of death…

wp3.gif7. “If I wasn’t in the comic book industry, I would be working….”?

(WP) In films directing Deathlok and Conan or at the front end of films at ILM or WETA in the design/concept department…

8. What advice could you give for a creator trying to break into the industry?

(WP) The internet is alive and everybody knows it…so, get your stuff online anywhere and everywhere…if you have what it takes you will be noticed…its free…

wpxmen522.gif9. “My best Investment in life was…….”

(WP) My small collection of science fiction novels by my fave old school writers…they have given me, and continue to spark my imagination, prodding me to each new project I work on…

wp4.gif10. Have anything you’d like to plug?

(WP) Yeah, I’m doing a 13-page Heroic Age story, A four issue story arc starting with Uncanny X-Men #526, Darkness #84 pencils/inks by myself, Image United, and end of the year my own new Image book “Fortress”…

Bonus Questions!

Who were your influences breaking into the Industry?

(WP) Jack Kirby, Neal Addams, Gil Kane, Barry Windsor Smith, Moebius….

Digital or Paper?

(WP) Now that I’m inking again, there’s nothing better than paper. The real medium is just so much more efficient and pliable. Having said that, I see a time where I will do everything on my Tablet PC digitally. It’s so powerful I can do professional Hi-rez for print work anywhere in the world at anytime. I also look forward to expanding the comicbook box with tools like 3D animation and Toon Boom 2D animation and Zbrush modeling..
