A Magneto Movie Without Ian McKellan?

The actor synonymous with the Magneto role questions whether he would fit in the upcoming Magneto movie.

David Goyer, the screenwriter behind the recent Batman movies, has recently named X-Men Origins: Magneto film as a possible upcoming X-Men spinoff. However, Ian McKellan, the actor who has played Magneto in the X-Men franchise thus far, doubts that he will have a place in it, if for no other reason than that the script, which is allegedly already floating around Hollywood, has not been given to him.

"There’s meant to be a ‘Magneto’ script floating around," McKellen told Empire Online. "[But] I’ve not read it, so I suspect it wouldn’t involve me."

In fact, it’s likely that the Magneto movie would focus on a younger version of the character, and though a youth-restoring effect was used in X-Men: The Last Stand to present younger versions of both Magneto and Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier, it is unlikely that such an effect would work for an entire movie.

"I think it would be about the younger Magneto, and the most I could
hope for would be to top and tail that," said the actor. "They can’t
have someone whose face is as lined as mine any longer!"

Still, McKellan has not ruled out returning to future X-Men movies, or even making a cameo appearance like Stewart did in the recent Wolverine flick.

"Ooh, he was very pleased with himself that he was going in to be in ‘Wolverine,’" McKellen said. "It was only an hour’s work!"
