Abnett and Lanning Launch The Thanos Imperative in May

Marvel will kick off the upcoming Thanos Imperative cosmic event with this special one-shot!

Marvel has a new feature up on the Thanos Imperative, the next big cosmic event coming from Marvel’s stellar cosmic team of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. The story follows War of Kings, and will wrap up a lot of the huge storylines in cosmic Marvel from the past several years. Of course, it all starts with the return of Thanos, who we reported a few weeks ago returns in Guardians of the Galaxy. Here’s what Abnett had to say:

"As readers will soon see in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #24 & #25, Thanos is back, so that’s the biggest deal of all. There isn’t a cosmic bad guy as bad as Thanos, so in simple terms this is everyone versus him-but with a twist! This time, you have the good guys on one side [and] Magus and his Dark Gods on the other with Thanos standing directly in the middle!"

It’s not ALL about Thanos though, at least according to Lanning:

"Nova is going to be front and center in this, along with the Guardians of the Galaxy, especially Star-Lord, but they’re going to be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Quasar and the Silver Surf. We’re talking serious, heavyweight cosmic heroes. Add to therat some fabulous cameos from the cosmic side of things, and some great characters on the villain side such as Magus."

The event, which begins with the one-shot in May, may be the greatest Marvel cosmic epic of all time. At the very least, according to Lanning:

"Oh, and this is probably the biggest and most serious cosmic epic we’re ever going to produce, but there’s still going to be an opportunity for a gag or two. Rocket Raccoon’s in it, after all."
