There are variant covers, and then there’s Amazing Spider-Man #1 showing up like it’s the Met Gala for comic art. Six different covers, all flexing in different ways. But let’s be real — four of them are working the sultry Black Cat angle harder than a cologne ad. The Dan Panosian cover leads the way with Black Cat giving “don’t even try it” energy while somehow still pulling you in. Nimit Malavia brings a soft, fun Felicia with her feline friends. All enjoying the fruits of her labor. Then there’s Inhyuk Lee, whose version of Black Cat, reaching for her whip, looks like she’s about to steal your diamonds and your dignity. And Derrick Chew doesn’t even try to hide it — his Black Cat is full-on “hello trouble”, literally crawling on diamonds. These four artists clearly understood the assignment: seductive with a side of danger. Meanwhile, Jonboy Meyers reminds everyone this is a Spider-Man comic, remember him? His Spidey cover has the web-head lunging straight at you like he caught you skipping leg day. The yellow-gold background practically shoves Spider-Man into your face — which is the right move. On the flipside, Ivan Talavera dials it all the way down with a chill Mary Jane moment. She’s chill on a fire escape, rocking her favorite tee and Converse’s like she’s about to spill some deep conversation, Queens in the background, body language all casual, but her stare is pure confidence. It’s subtle, but it hits hard, earning the Cover of the Week honors. Read more about that right HERE.
Daredevil #20 by Philip Tan doesn’t waste time with subtlety. This is the 1990s-costume Daredevil blasting out of a chimney like he’s been storing rage down there since the VHS era. There’s fire. There’s smoke. There’s a feeling like you’re about to get tackled off the roof. The vibe is gritty throwback chaos, and it’s glorious.
Then we get to Spider-Gwen Ghost Spider #12 and the dual identity moment courtesy of Kasia Nie. You’ve got Gwen side-by-side with herself — regular Ghost-Spider and Ghost-Spider… in space. Apparently, multiversal wardrobe changes are a thing now. It’s an eye-catching split personality image that makes you stop and ask, “Wait, what issue did I miss?”
