Big S.H.I.E.L.D. Movie Coming After Avengers?

Samuel L. Jackson announces a big S.H.I.E.L.D. movie with little fanfare on a radio show, setting the internet ablaze.

Many were surprised when a quote from a radio interview with Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in Marvel’s Iron Man and other Avengers related movies, started making the rounds. In the quote, Jackson suggests that, after the Avengers finishes shooting, Marvel will be shooting a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie. This is news, because no such movie has been announced. Here’s the quote:

The Avengers should start shooting some time next year, and then some time after that there’ll be a big S.H.I.E.L.D. movie.

The only S.H.I.E.L.D. characters we’ve been introduced to so far are Fury, the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), all in the Iron Man movies. Presumably, more characters could be introduced in Thor, Captain America, and Avengers. Since Avengers itself seems like it will feature a team of heroes put together by S.H.I.E.L.D., we might assume that this movie would be more espionage-themed than superhero themed.
