Comic Covers That Hit Hard This Week: Turtles, Thor, and a Goofy Surprise

Comic Covers That Hit Hard This Week: Turtles, Thor, and a Goofy Surprise.
Sometimes, a great comic cover does more than just sell a book—it demands attention, starts conversations, and, occasionally, makes you question your entire existence. This week’s lineup brings a mix of danger, nostalgia, and sheer artistic flexing. From Batman and the Ninja Turtles in a rooftop standoff to X-23 in full berserker mode, these covers prove that comic art is just as much about storytelling as the pages inside. And if you thought Goofy shrinking into Ant-Man-sized chaos or Thor flexing his dominance wasn’t enough, wait until you see which cover took the Cover Gem of the Week crown. Let’s break down the best of the week.

Comic Covers That Hit Hard This Week: Turtles, Thor, and a Goofy Surprise.
The Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trade paperback by Freddie E. Williams brings us the rooftop showdown we all want to see. Batman, in his Gotham (or is it New York?) element, surrounded by the four brothers, all ready to throw hands—or in the case of Leo, Raph, Mikey, and Donnie—shells. The grey tones in Batman’s suit contrast perfectly with the turtles’ vibrant green, and the watercolor aesthetic gives it an old-school grit with just the right amount of rough lines to make it pop. The GI Joe #1 third print by Kendrick Kunkka delivers an instantly iconic cover that screams danger, seduction, and sheer confidence. Our female lead holds an absolutely massive firearm over her shoulder while lowering her shades just enough to look directly at us. It’s the kind of stare that makes you wonder if she’s about to recruit you—or eliminate you. Either way, this cover is lethal. Over on NYX #9, Fan Yang lets X-23 go full berserker mode. Claws out, arms crossed, and a bridge backdrop setting the stage for maximum chaos. Blood splatter flies toward the viewer, making this feel more like an action shot than a cover. It’s intense, it’s dramatic, and it’s exactly what you want from an X-23 piece. Spider-Gwen Ghost-Spider #11 gets two solid covers this week. Mark Brooks goes for an intergalactic twist, suiting Ghost-Spider up in full space gear while she stands next to Loki, who is, of course, effortlessly posing for the cosmos. She, however, glances back at us—because someone’s got to make sure we’re paying attention. Meanwhile, Todd Nauck keeps things classic with Ghost-Spider swinging right at us in signature Nauck style. Two very different approaches, both absolute winners. The Star Wars Jedi Knights #1 cover by Yasmine Putri takes this week’s Cover Gem of the Week spot. (Check out its own post for more details). The Immortal Thor #21 by Alex Ross is yet another masterclass in Ross-ism. This time, we see Thor’s massive arms and head from behind, hammer in hand, staring down his opponent at a gate. But the real kicker? The reflection in a gigantic, gleaming axe shows the full frontal view of Thor, and oh yeah—Thanos is just casually standing in the background, waiting his turn. Just another day in Asgard. Lastly, What If Mickey and Friends Became Avengers #1 by Phil Noto delivers one of the most unexpectedly fun covers of the week. Goofy as Ant-Man, mid-shrink, right before our eyes. This cover was in a heated battle with Jedi Knights for the Cover Gem of the Week title, but the coin flip made the call. Regardless, it’s a knockout. Phil Noto proves once again that he can make anything look effortlessly cool.
