Cover Gem of the Week: Predator Kills The Marvel Universe #1Dan Panosian.
This week’s cover gem is the hot comic spotlight pick, and for good reason. We get nothing but the Predator’s face here, but not his usual nightmare-inducing mug — instead, it’s the first time the Predator has taken on the persona of a Marvel Comics character. And not just any Marvel character, but Spider-Man himself. His skin is the red Spider-Man mask pattern, complete with webbing detail stretched over that alien skull as he lets out a restrained, primal scream. It’s unsettling and brilliant at the same time. The red pops perfectly against the darker tones, giving it an eerie mix of heroics and horror. This isn’t just another cool mash-up cover — this is history in the making for comic collecting. First time ever, first time Predator has been merged into a Marvel icon. And that alone should have collectors on high alert. This series doesn’t just pit Predator against a roster of Marvel heroes for the first time; it also plants the seed for possible future crossovers with Predator embodying other Marvel personas. If one of those takes off in the aftermarket, this is ground zero. The book could easily become a grail piece if Marvel ever follows through with more of these hybrids. Whether or not that happens, the idea alone makes this book a must-grab. The hype potential is absurd, and the shelf life of this cover’s relevance could be massive. Heard it here first — this one won’t linger in stores. Dan Panosian has not only hit a home run with the cover gem of the week, but may be the catalyst for a new era for Predator.
Dan Panosian is an American comic book artist, writer, and cover illustrator whose career spans decades in the industry. He began working in comics during the late 1980s, with early work at Marvel Comics on titles like Captain America and X-Factor, as well as various projects at DC Comics. He was a member of the early 1990s Image Comics wave, contributing to projects such as Prophet and Supreme. Over the years, Panosian has built a reputation for his distinctive, often painterly cover style that blends bold composition with a gritty, cinematic edge. In addition to his mainstream work, he has created and co-created original projects such as Slots and An Unkindness of Ravens. His versatility allows him to shift between highly detailed realism and stylized design, making his covers instantly recognizable and highly sought after by collectors. He has also contributed to major franchises beyond superheroes, including Star Wars, Conan, and now Predator, cementing his place as one of the top modern cover artists in comics.
