Happy 50th Birthday Asterix!

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the plucky Gallic Hero’s first appearance.

Today, the 29th of October, is the 50th Anniversary of the first ever publication of Asterix, in Pilote #1.

Created by Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, the French comic strip told the hilarious adventures of Asterix and Obelix as they led the fight of their small village (the only Gauls still fighting) against 3 Roman Forts.

I grew up reading the excellent British translations of Asterix, and found them to be witty, clever, and not only did they spur on my love of Comics, but also of History. So on behald of The Outhouse, let’s say a big Happy Birthday to Asterix The Gaul!
