Hayley Atwell Cast as Peggy Carter in Captain America Movie

Atwell joins star Chris Evans as the love interest for his Steve Rogers in the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger film from Marvel.

Atwell, who holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and U.K., is a relatively unknown actress with roots in theater and British dramas such as Brideshead Revisited and The Duchess. She also has a role in AMC’s remake of the 1960s miniseries, The Prisoner. Atwell will play an updated Peggy Parter, love interest for Steve Rogers in the World War 2 setting of the film.

Captain America: The First Avenger is slated for release on July 22, 2011 from Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures.
