Jared Mast: Goldin Auctions was founded in 2012 by Sports Collectibles pioneer Ken Goldin. Ken built up a reputation in the collectibles business from years of working alongside some of the biggest athletes/stars in the industry. At that time, the industry was much smaller and starting an auction house was a natural fit for someone as talented as Ken. After years of growth/success, Goldin Auctions decided to branch off into Pop Culture/TCG/Comic Books & Video games, starting the concept in early 2021. JM: At this very moment – Shohei Ohtani. He’s doing historic things as a pitcher/hitter in arguably one of, if not the, most collectible sport in Major League Baseball. Just yesterday, he struck out fellow MVP candidate Vladimir Guerrero Jr, then hit a 386 foot double off the wall shortly after.3 – TPC: Most feel the Honus Wagner is the holy grail. What is the “modern card” holy grail?
JM: There are a few grails in the hobby when it comes to modern cards. For basketball it would be the 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan card. Baseball, Mike Trout Bowman Chrome Superfractor 1/1. Football, Tom Brady 2000 SP Authentic Championship Ticket. Hockey, 1986 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky.
JM: The biggest pivot when it comes to dealing with comic books is understanding how much of a community driven marketplace it is. There are many different ways to sell books, we must make our experience more lively and attempt to connect the community to our services with great content & material. Due to competition there are also lower fee structures than we are used to – but we will beat any consignment deal provided!
