Welcome to the InvestComics Hot Picks for new comic releases on 12-5-12.

Avengers (2012 5th Series) #1 from Marvel NOW! is so secret that the solicit for the issue says “Classified.” One thing we know is NOT classified is the first appearance of this team in Avengers #1 (1963), brought to you by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee of course. A graded CGC 9.4 sold for $185,000 recently. Only one grade higher than this out there and that’s a 9.6. The Avengers are a big draw/sell right now. Look for this comic to continue its upward climb with no limit in sight. 500K very soon is not that far off of the realm here folks.

Continuing with Marvel NOW! and their re-launch titles we get Thunderbolts (2012 2nd Series) #1. The original title debuted in 1997 with Busiek and Bagley at the helm. It was and still is a very popular series. The 1997 number one issue can be bought at a very affordable price these days. So much so that you may be able to find it at your local comic shop or convention in the dollar bins.

As mentioned in previous InvestComics Hot Picks, the best part of the re-launch titles is that we get to see/read about new heroes, villains, status quo, new directions and so much more. Iron Man (2012 5th Series) #3 however we get to check out the newest Stealth Armor in Tony’s repertoire. It’s so bad ass that Marvel says “it’s the most subtle Iron Man Armor of all time!” Looking forward to this!

DC Comics debuts a new number one issue into their restart world, New 52, with Human Bomb (2012 DC) #1. Human Bomb debuted in Police Comics #1 from 1941. A graded CGC 8.0 sold for $7,000 in recent months with only 1 9.4 graded copy sitting out there. Only a total of 25 of these comics have been graded to date. The issue not only features the first appearance of Human Bomb, but also Plastic Man and Phantom Lady.

Earth 2 (2012 DC) #7 figures into the equation with revelations of who the new Hawkgirl is within the new 52 Universe. Where there is girl there is man. The Brave and the Bold #34 (1961) was Hawkgirl’s debut as well as Hawkman. Both of these characters need an “Aquaman/Geoff Johns” treatment because they are simply put, lame. As cool as one may make them look at times, they never seem to catch on the right way. A 9.0 CGC Graded of this comic sold for only $3,000? Yes exactly, lame character(s) equals lower cost. There are 9 graded at the 9.0 mark with 6 more at the 9.4 mark. The TRUE mark on this book however is that the late great Joe Kubert is all over it!

Finally this week, check out Image Comics’ I Love Trouble (2012 Image) #1. Looks like fun.
