Fanboys are abuzz as the rumor that Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire may play geek favorite Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit spreads around the internet!

Movie news site i09 has reported today on a rumor circulating that Tobey Maguire will play Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of The Hobbit. The rumor is based mostly on speculation and hearsay, but apparently Maguire himself may have hinted at its truthfulness:

LatinoReview has a scoop that during The Brothers junket, Maguire was asked who he wanted to work with his answer was, Guillermo del Toro. Which he followed with:
"We may have something here in the near future."

Of course, Maguire’s publicist is already trying to debunk the rumor. Take it for what you will.
