Lionsgate to distribute Kick-Ass

It’s already finished filming, but it didn’t have a distributor. Until now, as Lionsgate have picked up the domestic rights to Kick-Ass!

Based on the comic by Mark Millar (Ultimates, Civil War) and John Romita Jnr (Pretty much everything at Marvel), the film, directed by Matthew Vaughan (Layer Cake, Stardust) is set for a wide 2010 release.

This is good, the film has been finished for a while now, and was independently financed, but there has been worries that the violence and language would cause most major studios to balk at distributing, or if they do pick it up, cut it heavily. But Lionsgate is a ‘mini-major’ and should be more willing to take a risk.

No news on international distribution yet, but this is a step forward, now just get the comic finished first!
